The project went very well, and took four months to complete. I am extremely happy with the results. Several suggestions for the renovation that Artie made had a dramatic impact on how things turned out. For example, he suggested widening the doorway from the family room to the kitchen, which really helped open the space while connecting the two rooms in a very attractive way. He was extremely careful, and checked everything multiple times. The structural work, including the installation of the steal beam, was risky and required careful planning, but Artie had it completely under control, and the work went smoothly, without any problems. Artie's attention to detail was greatly appreciated. If something didn't look right he was the first to say it needed to be changed. We had a problem with a pull out kitchen cabinet that did not clear a door pull on another cabinet (a problem that the cabinet supplier created by not getting dimensions correct). Artie worked h****** the problem, and came up with a workable solution that I was satisfied with. Artie was always on the job site, constantly checking the progress of the work. It didn't matter how late the subcontractor was in getting to the house; Artie waited and made sure the job was done right. Everything was well coordinated so the job moved along steadily from one phase to the next. Artie is very knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. He listens carefully to what you would like to have done and makes helpful suggestions. The job site is always kept neat, and he was extremely careful about preventing damage to the new flooring which was a challenge with workmen coming and going through the snowy winter months. I highly recommend Artie for kitchen and bathroom remodeling, and would certainly have him do additional work on my house if it is needed.
Description of Work: Artie gutted my kitchen and downstairs lavatory. Removed all flooring in the kitchen, lavatory, dining room, hall/foyer, and living room. Removed a carrying wall between the kitchen and dining room and installed a steel beam to carry the upper floor. Removed the vanity and medicine cabinet and all tile in the guest bathroom upstairs, and gutted the master bathroom. He removed a window in the kitchen, and made repairs to the crank on the remaining kitchen window. He recessed the medicine cabinets in all three bathrooms. Artie supplied all sub-contractors to do the demolition and to install the steel beam and the hardwood flooring in the kitchen, dining room, living room, and hall/foyer. He did most of the carpentry himself, including hanging the kitchen cabinets, installing bathroom vanities and medicine cabinets, building a new set of steps (two steps), installing new closet doors, repairing a defective window casing, etc. Artie also supplied a drywall installer and plasterer, since he did not do this work himself. I supplied the kitchen cabinets and granite countertops, the electrician, plumber, and tiler, but Artie supervised and coordinated all the work.
