Did everything by telephone. RCN person was patient and respectful to me. Last fall I also added telephone service with RCN. The technician who came to the house was prompt, very professional and answered any questions patiently.
I had another technician last year who came to the house because I kept losing volume on one TV set. He, too came on time, fixed the problem, and made sure all was working well before he left. He even showed me how to use the remote that he had re-programmed.
Some years ago the same company had poor telephone customer service. They have improved tremendously.

I've been getting Internet and phone service from RCN for at least 15 years. Their Internet service goes down less than once a year, and is generally restored fairly promptly. The phone service is somewhat more reliable (down less often, fixed more quickly). They are generally responsive to calls about problems. I have not had any problems with their billing. (The $109.00 figure is the approximate monthly charge for Internet and phone as a combined package.)
I rated RCN as and quot;goodand quot; because they do the job they say they'll do, with only rare problems (and no real problems dealing with the company). From what I've heard about other phone/Internet providers, and quot;goodand quot; service by this definition is pretty exceptional. I would recommend them.

We have had some issues with the cable company portion so that's definitely something that we want to look at. Overall, the internet speed is very good. That is something that sets them apart. The cost depends on the packages you get but it can be between $100 and $200. I would suggest looking at the recent deals from Comcast and Verizon, as well as RCN before signing up for a contract.

The service technician walked me through the process step by step over the phone and patiently waited until everything was working again including my wireless network which was not their responsibility.

I've been with RCN for about 4 years. On the plus side, they have TiVO DVR boxes which are superior to the standard cable box/DVR. On the downside, RCN's performance is spotty at best. They have frequent (and unexplained) outages -- at least once every three months in which TV service just stops working for anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days. Accidents and outages happen, but they seem to suffer far more than other providers like Verizon and Comcast.
I am a network engineer by trade and I've noticed frequent outages on with their internet service as well. Calling their tech support is essentially a waste of time as the stock answer is always and quot;we have an outage in your area and there is no ETA as to when it will be resolved. Thank you for being an RCN customer.and quot;
Their prices are on par with other providers so given their spotty performance I'm considering switching over to Comcast.

Installation was on time and without any problems. Service quality is good so far. And the price is the best.

Carolyn Byrne of RCN's and quot;Local Loyalty Teamand quot; guaranteed me a rate of 105.73 per month for twelve months in Oct. RCN is now reneging on that promise. My bill went up by six dollars after only five months. When I called her (took three calls, she didn't answer the first two messages) she claimed that it really wasn't my bill going up, only my and quot;surchargesand quot;. Apparently this is RCN's way of doing an end run around their promises.

RCN engages in manipulative and deceptive business practices. I was promised the rate above for 12 months and I expect them to honor that promise. I expect my bills to be as follows (final cost)

The installation was great. Done during a high turnover rate for apartment leases, this guy knew exactly what he was doing when it came to setting up the boxes. He was actually able to juggle two jobs at once, one next door, since the boxes themselves need some time in between button presses. The physical installation was a 9/10. I say this because he spotted the best paths around my *very* old apartment to run the coaxial cable, as well as taking time to run it through the wall when code required. The part that was lacking was in the details. The coaxial cable, although run with skill and expertise, was not run with care. The time taken to perform the physical installation was not quite enough, even though the skill was quite up to par. For example, I mentioned the wall drill prior; done quickly and precisely, but dust left on the floor. The service, I actually don't have much to comment on, since it has literally been flawless. I have never observed a problem with my cable or internet since turning it on. The customer service is fantastic. I had purchased a package suggested to me by the commercial landlord I was leasing from, but later found out there is a much better deal for my particular area. I was easily able to call up a customer service rep and get the new deal.

Great first installation and pretty good follow up when the internet connection proved faulty.

It is going well. It goes out sometimes, but it is not the worst thing.

They are reasonably priced for the services they provide. Nothing has really gone wrong.

They are a big company here. I pay them monthly. They are responsive.
