Stay away.

I got five or six quotes to replace between 30-40 broken slates on my natural slate roof. Raboin had by far the most competitive price and appeared to have the expertise to back it up. They also guarantee the work, which many companies refuse to do. The slates were repaired quickly with matching materials. I'm very happy I went with Raboin for this job. I later had them replace the step flashing. Again, the price was fair for the extent of the job. Everything appears to have been done well. I knocked off 0.5 from the work quality score for two minor reasons: 1) I think a little more care could have gone into the appearance of the flashing (for example, not all step flashes are at perfect right angles). 2) Cleanup could have been a little more thorough. I had to sweep the main work areas and clean up some left over material. Overall I highly recommend Raboin. If your experience was like mine, you'll get good value, good communication, and high quality work done at a fair price.

Workers were so timely and respectful when they repaired the slate on our turret roof, that we hired Roboin for an additional job to replace our slate roof valleys with copper. Once again workers were wonderful...they respected our gardens and cleaned up everything when they were done . ***ALSO, they did this quality work for a very fair cost which was exactly what the original estimate stated. Other estimates that we received were frankly prohibitive. We will definitely hire Raboin for future work. Thank You!

I had three other companies try to fix my leak but Tom's company did it correctly!

The short version is that they took my deposit to replace slates on my home, then didn't show up (without calling) or rescheduled 4 times over a two week period. I've cancelled the job and asked them to refund my deposit. Michelle in their office was extremely helpful and apologetic, but my experience is that the company cannot be relied upon.

The owner, Tom, is extremely knowledgeable about slate roofs and passionate about his company's service. I called them to assess a roof leak around a vent pipe. Another roofer had supposedly fixed it 6 months ago, but had begun leaking and staining the ceiling beneath the roof during heavy rains a few weeks ago. The former roofer had given a year guarantee on the seal, but refused to honor it. I called Raboin in desperation. Tom arrived on time to assess. He took time to show me photos and explain in detail the cause of the leak and how their company doesn't just seal around the existing pipe but creates a custom vent pipe cap and puts flashing around the pipe (nor tar sealant). I was impressed with Tom's thorough explanation and we hired them and had the work completed. The roof has withstood several recent heavy rains and we've had no more leaking into the ceiling. Tom no longer works on roofs himself, as I understand it, but his team was wonderful. They arrived promptly, were well-organized, completed the job within a day, and cleaned up meticulously. Their price was very reasonable--they charged the same price as the roofer who used tar sealant to fix the leak (which didn't last for 6 months) and they give a 20-year guarantee. I highly recommend this company!

Tom, the owner is exceptionally knowledgeable about slate and copper roofs. From the time of initial assment to completion, Tom explains everything in precise detail. His crew was wonderful, very well organized and cleaned up after themselves. Slate and copper roofs are costly to maintain, but Tom helped me with prioritizing the work. I have completed 2 of 3 phases. Tom and his crew are amazing! I would highly recommend him if you are doing such specialized work.

I had a lot of repair work done on my slate roof last year. I had to really keep on top of these guys to make sure they did the work according to standard slate roofing techniques. If you hire them, be sure to study up on the techniques and insist they do it right. My results ended up being okay, but I won't hire them again and wouldn't recommend them.

Dependable and polite. Always clean up after they have worked on the roof. We've used them every spring for the past 13 years.

We almost removed our slate roof after another slate contractor's estimate was so high we thought we couldn't afford to maintain our beautiful slate. Tom Raboin and his son came out very quickly and gave us a reasonable estimate to repair immediate leak issues. They obviously very much respected the slate and ultimately the cost to do many of the repairs was less than a new asphalt roof would have been. They actually came out two days later and did the first part of the job in one day. They could have done a better job cleaning up the pieces of old tar they chipped off the slate, but not a big deal. The worker was able to get a closer look at the roof while doing the initial repairs and Tom suggested the most important repairs to do next and gave us an estimate a few days later. He was not pushy and is realistic about spreading out the work so it is affordable for us.

Expensive, but very good results. The guys doing the work are very skilled and did the work quickly. The owner and office staff are quirky with so-so communication skills, so keep that in mind. Also, the owner is quite old, so the generous 20-year warranty may not be useful down the road. I would consider hiring these guys again, but would also look at other options.

The person that runs the business does not have any customer service skills and are very rude to its customers when there is issue with your roof that they replaced. My roof was replaced in the winter and it started to pop up. I have ask them to come back more than 5-10 times by emails and phone calls to fix it but they keep saying we will come back and never does. Finally has to open a claim with Home Advisor and BBB to assist. We have agreed a time for them to come and they did a no show and never called. Than one day they just show up at my driveway without telling anyone and my wife has to call me and said why they are here. They still insist there are nothing wrong with the roof when it clearly showing the adhesive is not glue right and there are spots of air bubble within the shingles. They finally agreed to replace the roof and the problem is fix. It just not worth the headache for me. And the price was not cheap, I will have to shop around and check all ratings from different web sites before hiring anyone. I have someone looked at the roof and told me the cap is done wrong and they should have told me the roof is slant the wrong way so the water is coming back into the house and not outside.

The ice dam either came back (a possibility) or formed again 4 days after they did the first removal. My reason for the low rating was how he handled picking up the check that day. I told him we would be home by 8:30pm (we happened to get home earlier). I gave up waiting for him at 9pm and when I was upstairs I heard the doorbell. He said he had been waiting for two hours and knew we were home because there were two cars in the driveway. I had turned the light on over the doorway in the driveway. He came to the other door without the light turned on and when I asked him where he had parked since I could see the driveway, he said he had parked in neighbor's drive where I could not see him. And he never tried calling on my cell phone. So wrong driveway, wrong door, and no call. He tried to make me feel that I hadn't answered the door on purpose. Very poor customer service in my opinion.

Excellent work. RAboin came out and suggested a different repair than another company from HomeAdvisor and walked me through why he was right (and 1/2 the price!). Their workers ended up applying lead flashing to one chimney but when they were up there found another leak on another chimney. They offered to repair both and Raboin quickly got back to me via phone and gave very good pricing. I was impressed that they did a survey of the entire roof before leaving as this saved another trip back out.
