Excellent. Always a pleasure to work with Ed. He is honest and kind, which is important in my book. His prices are fair, good communication. We've only used him for small projects that we didn't have time to do ourselves. Highly recommend.

Mr Koppelman was a consummate professional - he assessed the damage, provided us with  a clear plan and reasonable estimate of the cost, made suggestions for the best approach, was flexible with his dates and times, and completed the work in an exemplary manner. He was reliable, punctual, and totally professional. His finished product was excellent! We would certainly recommend his services and will put him at the top of our list for future work in our home.

I hired Ed to clean out our gutters and reattach our radon pipe which has come loose from the house.  We had an email exchange, and he said he would add me to the schedule, but he never let me know exactly when he was coming.  I was out running errands one day and got a phone call from my homeschooled teens because a man was roaming around the backyard.  I had to cut my errands short and get home to see what was going on.  It was the handyman.  By the time I got home, he had finished cleaning the gutters in the back, but had forgotten to attach the pipe.  I chatted with him for a little bit, and wanted an estimate for fixing some rotting trim that we have, but he wouldn't give me an estimate, says that he only works by time, and since he doesn't know what he will find under the wood, he wouldn't give an estimate (even a best case scenario).
When he finished the gutters, he went to check on the radon pipe and discovered that the pipe was some how not long enough for the area it needed to be attached to on the house. He said it would save money for me if I found and bought the pipe, and we discussed that I would get it that very afternoon and that he would come back on his way home from his other jobs to install it. He never mentioned charging me extra. In fact, I went ahead and write him a check for his minimum wage of two hours, even though he had only been there for 1.5 hours.
I texted him at 3:30 and let him know that I was not able to find the pipe, but that I had a package of zip ties he could use to secure the pipe. He had said texting was the best way to let him know when I had the pipe. At 8pm that evening he said he would be there first thing the next morning to secure the pipe, and to just leave the zip ties next to the ladder he had left.
Sometime the next morning he did finally come and secure the pipe, but he also stole my brand new package of zip ties.
A week later when I received a bill stating that because he had to make a special trip back out to my house, he was charging me another full hour of work. (remember that he hadn't worked the full 2 hours the first day.) This was extremely frustrating, as he never mentioned he would charge more. If I had known, I would have just had him leave the pipe as it was, since it wasn't a danger and worked perfectly fine.
Between the lack of scheduling, the stolen zip ties, and the extra fees, I would not hire again.

Response from THE BOLTON HARVARD HANDYMAN
"I try very hard to conduct business in a fair, honest, courteous and responsible manner. [name removed] had contacted me about cleaning her gutters. I explained that because most gutter cleaning jobs are so short, it costs me too much in time to chase down estimates. I conveyed my hourly rate, as well as my 2 hour minimum fee, per house call. She asked me to also secure the top of a radon pipe that had become detached. I agreed, with the condition that it was simple and quick. I n addition, I explained that I grouped jobs together by location, and didn’t know exactly which day I would in her neighborhood, but did provide a window of a few days. Her being home was unnecessary, as I wouldn’t need inside access. She agreed to all of those terms. Cleaning her gutters and assessing the radon pipe issue took about and hour and a half. I explained that properly affixing the radon pipe was not quick. The multi-pieced section become detached because it was not compatible with the gutter it had to circumvent. To get around that problem, the installer apparently hadn’t glued that section in place, forcing it to sit askew Proper completion of the task would involve purchasing some new sections of radon pipe, forming the proper angles and lengths, and gluing all of that in place. This section of the radon pipe sits at the roofline, 3 stories above the ground I offered two options. The first was for me to purchase the materials and perform the job. The second option was for her to purchase the materials for me to do the job. [name removed] chose the option that saved her the most money, i.e., doing the shopping herself. We parted ways. She went off to buy the materials. I went on to my next customer. [name removed] contacted me after my workday had already ended, and conveyed that she couldn’t find the needed sections of pipe. She requested that I return and simply re-attach the old section with a plastic tie that she had. I returned the next day, climbed to the roof, and “secured” the old section as requested. I left the unused ties on her deck My travel to and from that job, plus the actual work time took an hour. Normally I don’t charge for travel time, but that’s why I have the 2 hr. minimum fee. I waived the 2 hour minimum fee and invoiced her for just the time it took out of my work day, i.e., one hour. I hand wrote the explanation on the invoice. I’m sorry she’s not happy, but being reasonable, fair and honest is a two way street."

I had a rough design of what I wanted.  The only piece that I took care of was getting the posts installed by Techno Post.  Ed Koppelman did the rest with various crew members to help at times.  The most satisfying part, besides seeing the beautiful completed deck, was the building inspector telling me that Ed had done a great job.  Solid, professional and to code.

I called Ed to get an estimate on a railing for my front steps and to get a shower head screwed in - old one had broken and had been removed and I had purchased a new one. On the phone he said he didn't give estimates (?) but that he was right near my house. He came over and screwed in the new shower head. He left a dirty, muddy mess in the bathtub and all over the bathroom floor! (I don't understand how workmen can leave a big mess and expect homeowners to use them again or recommend them!) He clearly didn't wipe his feet when he came in - his dirty shoes in the wet tub left the bathroom floor disgustingly dirty. There was a roll of paper towels right there, or he could have asked me for something. I guess I should have checked but I assumed all was okay. Then when I asked him how much I owed him he said $55! For 10 or 15 minutes simple work!! Said he charged $55 an hour. My experience with him was that I felt ripped off, and I would certainly not use him again or recommend him!

"I have a 2 hr. minimum house visit charge, but waived for this customer. I charged her for one hour. In regards to the muddy tub: That's inaccurate, I hosed down the entire tub using the shower newly installed shower head and hose, while checking it for leaks."

Paul is a true professional. He built some garage shelves for us in the winter and we knew he was the right guy to build our deck. He is very particular and makes the sure the job is done right. He also had an eye on where we could save on materials and made the best effort in minimizing waste.  He offered advice on design and put on finishing touches. We discussed almost every change to the plan and he was totally open to our ideas and last minute changes.

Fabulous.  Everything that I ask (regardless of how small or how uncertain) he gets done.  He talks to me about options and costs, he works within my time frame, and always leaves things clean when he is done.  I have no hesitation in calling him because if I ask for something he is not comfortable doing he will tell me and recommend an alternative.

We purchased a home that was built in 2010, but found that the previous owners had never lived in the house and had rented it to 3 different families. The tenets did not take care of the house and we found a lot of small problems that we had to fix.

We provided Ed with a list if things that needed to be done. He showed up on time and asked us what were our priorities. Once he knew what we needed to have done, he worked on our list methodically to fix all of the issues. He was very personable and conscientious as he worked in our home. Also, he did high-quality work and was very professional. I would definitely hire Ed again to work in our home.

Ed was  pleasure to work with in all aspects. He was honest, courteous and prompt. He was very kind to our young son who is interested in construction and he explained all of his work at each step in the process. Most of all he did an impeccable job. We would use him again in a heartbeat.
