The alarm system and cameras have been treated pretty much as two different systems. The alarm system has worked as expected (or my rating might have been worse).
They installed both on the same day; it was a long and stressful day with people in and out of the house and attic. They accidently drilled a hole in my bedroom wall and ceiling which they promised to fix so well that the holes would never be noticeable. That remains to be seen; the work is _very_ noticeable right now but drying.
I should probably preface this with the fact that I'm computer literate and could have purchased cameras at Costco. I felt that I was buying expertise by using this Company and I had high expectations.
They had made proposals for two different camera systems and I went with the most expensive proposal of the two, hoping to assure those high expectations. While the Company was installing the cameras, I noticed fairly serious problems with what the cameras could see under conditions of contrast, deep light and dark. They saw it too, and much of the long day was trying to adjust the cameras to fix it. They said the HD technology and the cameras were fairly new on the market and promised that they would work with the vendor, even replace the cameras with different ones if needed. I paid part of what was billed.
I wouldn't hear anything for long periods of time. A few times they would push for the rest of the money and we would discuss the issues. There were more issues, maybe related. This winter they said that they couldn't see the problems. As soon as the light got stronger this spring, I sent them screen shots and told them when to look at the DVR, they could do so remotely, to see the problems. There were also some smaller requests for support, e.g., a request for equipment documentation, that didn't get satisfied. (I was told they had given it to me already.)
Today, B came to my house uninvited. I had said that the installer who'd made the hole could come to fix it today but, I had specifically told them that I wanted to speak with B on the phone before deciding if a visit was needed from him on other issues. At my house, uninvited and unwelcome, he informed me for the first time that while he'd confirmed the problems that I reported with the cameras, that was just the way they were; he could do no more. There were no better cameras in or near my price range.
He gave me two choices, to pay in full or he would pull all of the equipment (he was there with his installer). I don't want to go through tearing this all out again, some of the time the cameras work adequately, so I'm pretty much stuck with it. I will pay but it feels like a shakedown.
"We have been in communication with homeowner regarding the issues she has had with this specific camera and the DVR. In our estimation, we’ve called or emailed her on more than twenty occasions to help correct the issue. Our technicians have visited her home, changed out cameras, as well as remotely viewed her cameras from our office on no fewer than twenty different occasions. What we were finally able to determine was that the camera’s location, coupled with the bright sunlight in her yard, makes it difficult for her to view anything dark (ie black truck) on a tree-lined, shaded street. Many scheduled visits were cancelled by the homeowner with little to no notice. On more than one occasion she was offered a refund of what she had paid with removal of the surveillance system, which she declined each time. We admit to mistakenly drilling a hole in the ceiling, but have attempted to take steps to rectify this. Our technician was out recently to repair the ceiling after many attempts to schedule the repair, and will return if needed. In the end, no matter what we offered or attempted to do to satisfy the homeowner, it became apparent that there was nothing we could do to make her happy. The DVR and cameras have always worked the way they were designed."
I only minor issue I had is when I needed to replace the battery in the central alarm panel. I was given incorrect information as to the battery I needed, because the lady I spoke with wasn't as familiar with the wireless systems as she is with the wired ones. The installation price as a bit higher than a few other options, but the monitoring cost was lower, and I calculated it was the better financial option if I stuck with the system for a few years, which I easily did.
I continue to recommend them whenever someone asks for an alarm company.
The system does exactly what we'd like it to do. We told Brian what we want to achieve (for instance, security without window sensors), and he came up with great ways to do so (very well placed motion detectors). He talked us out of stuff he didn't think we needed, rather than into more stuff, and said we can always add later if we miss it. So far, we're good!
I have to say, I am most impressed with their service. Yes, they charge a bit more for the system than if you were to buy it say on amazon and do it yourself, but man - I would NOT want to do this myself! The initial installation and programming of the device took a whole day! And the service is simply outstanding. Every time we had a problem, no matter how little or big (e.g. cat tripping motion sensor, or a sensor malfunction, or just us not being sure how to work something in the system because we don't have time to read the manual), Brian called us back right away, even on weekends, and got someone to come over extremely quickly if it required someone in person. Their service is absolutely outstanding. They were also extremely patient in explaining the system to us. We feel in very good hands with them.
So, all in all, we would recommend them hands down!
The new system works great. I know this because I set it off accidentally one evening (oops!) and within seconds, the monitoring station was calling us and asking if we needed assistance. We highly recommend Millennium.
But the new V-Teck phones didn't work with the alarm system Brian installed in the fall of 2011. So Brian installed the cellular device. Brian came on June 4th to trouble-shoot the system and discovered that my new phones wouldn't work with the system
he installed in 2011, there was a $79.00 charge for that day's service call: all in included in the $ 570.00 price.
Brian, the owner, called and emailed immediately the morning after he saw this review. He was extremely apologetic for not contacting me after my initial inquiry and said that he had turnover in the office and perhaps that was the lapse in communication. He seemed very sincere and eager to earn our business and hey, people make mistakes and I believe in 2nd chances. So, we had him come out on 12/29/12 for a quote (yes, he can do quotes weekends, unlike what I was told on my 1st call). He explained things thoroughly and we felt like he was committed to finding what was best to fit our needs - no pressure or trying to 'sell' us. The next morning he emailed us a quote - not only was it the most timely quote that we received from a security company, but his was the lowest (while still providing all that we needed). We scheduled installation for 1/10/13. The technician arrived 20 minutes early, set-up everything and then Brian came in the afternoon to complete installation and review the system with us. He went over everything in detail and made sure that we were comfortable with things. So far the system is working well and the one minor issue that we have, Brian is fixing tomorrow (I spoke with him today and he's coming tomorrow - quick response!). Our initial experience with Millennium Alarm was disappointing, and I normally wouldn't change a rating of 'F' to an 'A', but Brian really earned it. He was professional, knowledgeable, flexible and reasonable. And it goes a long way when a person (or company) takes responsibility for a mistake and tries to fix it.
I called Millennium and explained the situation. The person that answered the phone asked me for the details about my system and said she would need to check with the owner to see if he could work with that security system. She called back and said he thought he could fix it and we set up an appointment. The owner, Brian, from Millennium came out and reset the existing system and did not charge us anything. I expected to pay something and it would have been more than reasonable for him to charge us. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. We are going to get a quote for an upgraded system and a monitoring option. Millennium has a month to month monitoring option which is much more appealing than locking yourself into those long contracts provided by most other security companies. I used to run a customer service organization, and customer service seems to be in decline in our society. However, Millennium has excellent customer service from the personnel that answer the phones all the way to the service they provide at your home.
Brian was informed of our time constraints (I think we had only a week left to provide an fire/burglar alarm certificate to our insurance company) and went out of his way to meet with us very early in the day on a day where he had a large installation planned. He went room by room and asked us a lot of questions and wanted to know what our concerns were and how he could help. He also recommended a few things to us that were very helpful. He was very thorough. He was fairly certain that we could re-use much of the pre-existing alarm contacts and wiring from the old system and that it would be verified when the installation occurred. The quote was very reasonable and we agreed to do the installation as soon as possible. Andrea was once again very helpful in the scheduling to get the installation done on time (Brian's walk through was on Fri, July 6. The install was on Tues, July 10!). The installation went smoothly and it turned out that most of the wiring was intact. The installed alarm components looked fine and the system tested out just great. The best part was that we got our certificate in time to please our home owner?s insurance company. Great job and thank you guys.
