I just love these guys. They've installed a new pump, fixed a broken water line, and repaired coroded parts for us over the last 20 years and they've always been terrific. By that I mean they either answer the phone right away or return your call promptly. They respond quickly if it's an emergency and show up when they say they will whether it is an emergency or not. And when they do show they are ALWAYS KNOWLEDGEABLE, PROFESSIONAL, THOROUGH, AND AFFORDABLE. I can't think of a single reason to ever call anyone else!

Nearly two hours were spent on various checks including removing the wellhead and checking the pressure at the source, checking the pressure where the pipe enters the house and checking the pressure after the aeration apparatus that is a part of the filtering system. Amperages were also checked. Ultimately, it was determined that the source of the problem is the actual water filtration system which was taken off line at the suggestion of the owner. Taking it off line involved turning three easy to reach valves. We were charged a total of $382.50 in labor when, for someone in the well pump business, who sees water filtering systems regularly, the problem could and should have been identified in 5 minutes. (The basic service call is $155 for up to 1/2 hour.) When the business owner was asked why the easiest check (taking the filter off line) wasn't tried first, his response was that they are not filter people and, in a nasty tone; if it were that obvious, why didn't I try it. The owner turned from being very polite and accommodating to being very abrupt, aggravated and nasty. I had paid the total $407.37 bill (upon request) while the workers were at my home and, upon phoning the owner to discuss, told him that I was unhappy with the bill but at no point did I ever request an adjustment. Even if I had, there was no call for him to react as he did. Having run my own business for years, my interest was always in using my experience to provide the greatest value to the customer. Had I been the one providing this service, I would have recognized that I should have tried the simplest solution first and would have charged the customer only for the basic 1/2 hour call; $155. I would have chalked the rest of the time up to a learning experience for me. I took that approach on any number of occasions with my customers and it inevitably resulted in referrals and repeat business. As it turned out, I paid over $100 per man hour for a series of diagnostics that should not have had to be done. This company replaced the original well head for me 17 years ago without incident. I was satisfied, thought that their price was fair and fully intended to use them again when a new head was needed but, as a result of this experience, I will find some other company to do the work.

My pressure tank failed and it was urgent to get it fixed to avoid damage to the well pump. I had Chip on the phone within an hour of calling (on a Sunday morning!) and he explained the mechanics of what was going on, and patiently listened to and answered all of my questions. Dan and Andrew showed up the next morning and they were both extremely professional, competent, and pleasant to work with. They further diagnosed the failure, explained my options, and gave me exactly what I asked for. I will certainly rely on County Pump in the future.

We woke up to several inches of water in our basement after our sump pump failed.  After pumping our the water ourselves we called County Pump & Supply around 10pm that night.  Chip answered and was able to fit us in for an appointment the next day.  They arrived the next morning and after checking the current pump determined a replacement was needed.  They then immediately installed a new pump and were done with the entire process within the hour.  The pump works great and our basement is now dry.
The County Pump & Supply team was very friendly and efficient.  We were extremely pleased with their service and would recommend County Pump & Supply to anyone looking for a quick sump pump replacement.

One late Sunday evening, we suddenly found we had no water. We called County Pump and Supply early Monday morning. During the initial phone call they asked us to try a few things with the water filtration system as part of a process of elimination. When none of those worked, they came out within an hour. They called on their way over to give us a heads-up that they were on the road, and arrived exactly the time they said they would be. I was impressed already.
They rechecked the electrical box again and checked the water filtration system. They said it was definitely a problem with the pump or the wiring in the well. They explained what they were going to do, and gave a heads-up on several things that it could be. They then proceeded to check and found it was a broken wire and bad/very old pump that needed to be replaced. They quickly wrote up an estimate, itemizing all costs, explained our different payment options clearly, told us how long the job might take depending on what they found (they even gave a minimum/maximum timeframe of the work to be completed), answered our questions and proceeded to go about their work replacing the items. Afterward, they gave us instructions on how to flush the system before we turned the water back on. We followed their instructions, then did the test they suggested to ensure that the water was clear, and we had water within the hour.
Great experience overall and better than any of the service providers we have used for our water system. We plan to call this company again in the future, should any additional problems arise.

During the first call to Chip (at 9 pm), he was extremely friendly and helpful, despite the late hour asking several questions to try to get to the root of the issue. He gave us some suggestions and recommendations for companies that sell/install water treatment products to stop future corrosion due to our hard water. I will certainly call him again for future work.

Techs where clueless, foul mouthed, and p***** off at the company and the job. It took four days and three techs to figure out the pump was overloading because the wire was too long. They installed a smaller pump and cut out 100 foot of my well and then left the trash. I Called three other companies two from PA and the pump manufacturer after the work was complete who all laughed and said county pump didn't know what they where talking about. The pump manufacturer stated the pump wouldn't behave as described due to long wire. The going theory (4 out of 4) was a partially blocked line as I had a lot of sand in the water. I asked the techs this multiple times and was told that it couldn't be that as I had flow, the owners son tried to incorrectly explain pump curves and head pressure to me. Guess I should have told him I have a degree in mechanical engineering and work with fluid pumps on a daily basis. After everything was done they tried to charge me more than they quoted me for the repair until I got the owner on the phone. Wish I had asked my neighbors as it appears they had similar issues with this company as well. I'm currently questioning the validity of opinions on Angie's list since this company had an A rating when I looked them up.
Response from County Pump & Supply Inc.
"1) Actual cost of job $2500. 2) We unfortunately believe the unprofessional assessment and apologize. This fairly new weekend employee was definitely stressed on this job as he couldn't reach the owner for advice as he was at his daughter's wedding. 3) After replacing the existing 1 1/2 horse power pump @ 600' and running the new 1 1/2 hp pump, while showing [member name removed] how to flush out the well (approx. 15 min.) it started overloading. Assuming it was a rare defective pump, it was pulled and replaced, however with the exact same results. By now it was dark and extremely late. The employees were tired and disgruntled. The owner's son and a helper went back the next day, pulled and inspected the 2nd overloading pump and called the manufacturer, Franklin Electric. After all the details were given, they concluded as we did, that the existing wire gauge on the system could not support their 1 1/2 hp pump. 4) Because [member name removed] didn't want to replace 600' of wire in the well with heavier gauge wire that would be needed, we offered to install a 1 hp pump @ the maximum allowable depth that his wire would allow. 5) Sediment/Drillings (what [member name removed] is calling sand). All wells will have sediment that needs to be flushed out after work is performed. This is normal and the pumps can handle it (unless the well caves in and buries a pump). The drillings were NOT the cause of the new pumps overloading. 6) Not sure what [member name removed] told the other companies and the manufacturer, but a follow-up call yesterday with Franklin Electric, with the correct information of [member name removed]'s system generated a response that again corroborates our initial assessment. 7) Doug (owner's son) only showed the pump curves of the 1 hp pump to [member name removed] (mechanical engineer) as he figured he would appreciate knowing his new pump. 8) Trash. We left the 80' of coil pipe for [member name removed] in case he changed his mind and wanted to replace the wire and reset a 1 1/2 hp pump back down to the original depth."

Fabulous. My original local company apparently went out of business recently. I called County Pump on a Saturday, telling them that our water pump was dead, and they offered to be onsite on Sunday at 830AM, and they were on-time. Everything was carefully explained during the entire process. One of the 2 men was awfully ill perhaps with the flu, he felt terrible but persisted and accomplished the difficult job without complaining and I am sure at great personal discomfort. The 2 men worked well together, I know they had difficulty rewiring the pump, and getting the old pump up out of the shaft. At the end of the job, they explained how to flush the system, and made sure I understood over and over. This company is a real class act!!! I am also a mobile service provider for computers, and I know how uncomfortable it is to be called on a weekend. County Pump is a great company!!

We called on County Pump after our previous company (Policy Pump) completely misdiagnosed the issue with our pump. (telling me we needed a new well) I would complain about them in greater detail, but this is not a review of Policy Pump but of County Pump. And they did a great job. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.
From my first call to County Pump, when our well pump was causing problems (sucking in air), I felt that my problem was heard and understood. The owner, Chip, asked good questions and had some thoughts about the issue that he discussed with me. Often, when calling on workers, I feel that b/c I am a woman I am treated as if I were stupid. This did not happen.
Once the workers arrived (on time) the following morning - they also listened to what I told them about the and quot;symptomsand quot; of the problem seemed to be. They used this knowledge as they set about diagnosing what might be wrong. They clearly understood the pump, our shallow well and what seemed to be the problem. They discussed the issues with me and we agreed about what needed to be done. They did it efficiently and then left - warning me there might be some future problem that could easily be taken care of.
The did need to come back another time and with a small adjustment, we were back in business and had /have water flowing again. They assessed the issues with our aging pump and discussed future potential problems. It was a very satisfactory outcome and I know what might be a problem in the future. As it should be.
This is a reputable family run company that cares about doing the right thing, the right way, for a reasonable amount of money and with a good attitude. Well worth the positive comments I read about them in other reviews.

Called Sunday afternoon after discovering we had no water. Made an appointment for the next day. They gave us some things to check in the meantime, which was great, although it turned out there was nothing we could fix (problem was in the well).
They called when they were on their way the next day. When they got here, they rechecked the electrical, agreed that there was a problem with the pump or the wiring in the well. Explained what they were going to do, pulled the pump and found it was okay, but very old - 1978 - and found a broken wire about 20' from the bottom. Wrote up an estimate, answered all our questions clearly, didn't try to sell us more than we needed, then put in a new pump on new, flexible pipe, replaced the old control unit in the basement and gave us instructions for flushing the system before we turned the water back on.
We followed their instructions, then did the test they suggested to ensure that the water was clear, and we now have water again!
Overall, exactly the kind of experience I always hope to have with a service company (but rarely do):
  • - They got here when they said they would
  • - They were polite and professional
  • - They told us exactly what they would be doing
  • - They had everything they needed to do the job when they got here
  • - They obviously knew what they were doing
  • - They were careful and methodical
  • - They answered all of our questions completely
  • - They told us what we did and didn't need, and when and what we might need to replace in the future
  • - They cleaned up after themselves
  • - When they were done, we had exactly the outcome we wanted

Chip and his guys were really great from start to finish. I called on Friday because our water was going in and out throughout the day. He sent his guys out right away, and after trying a few fixes they determined that the pump was about to go--and could go at any time. Since it could be awhile before our water was useable after the pump is replaced (and I have an infant) I wanted to take the weekend to stock up on water, etc, to prepare for potentially being without water for a few days. And of course, we woke up Saturday morning and had no water whatsoever. I called Chip in a panic and he sent his guys back over for me. They did a great job and I was relieved to have the pump replaced not long after I called him. These guys are really great, I highly recommend them and will absolutely use them again if anything comes up (hopefully not though!).

I'm new to the house I currently live in (and well water systems in general). I originally called County Pump to look into what I thought might be a problem with my well pushing air into my plumbing. Two friendly and knowledgeable guys from County Pump came on the scheduled day and checked things out. There didn't seem to be any air coming from the well, but while they were there I told them that the pressure range for my system was set a little low and too wide (30-60psi). They said that I would need to replace the pressure switch to provide the proper pressure range of 40-60psi. Since I was already paying for the first 30 minutes anyway, I agreed to have them replace it and the overly corroded pressure gauge while they were at it. They also checked the air pressure in the pressure tank and properly set it.
I was very pleased that they got everything done in 30 minutes so I didn't end up paying more than I had already planned. I also really appreciate that County Pump doesn't charge for a and quot;service calland quot; on top of an hourly rate. They were professional, thorough, and quick with the work they did. I highly recommend them and I will definitely be using them the next time I need my well system serviced.

It went very well. I talked with Chip and told him our water was out and the symptoms we had. He said he would send a crew out but that they had a couple of the calls to do first. He said they would call when they were on the way to our place, and they did. I called at a little after 7AM and before noon the new pump was installed and working.

Doug and Joe checked first to make sure that is wasn't the pressure control that went bad but it was fine. When they checked the current for the pump was drawing they could tell the pump was bad.

After they removed the old pump they replaced with one better sized for our well. The old one was bigger, and more expensive, than our well required.

They checked the pressure tank too because it was 25 years old but found it to be in good shape but also showed me how to check to make sure the bladder wasn't leaking.

They showed me how to check to make sure the last of the sediment was clear before turning on the water for the house.

They cleaned up after they were done and said to call with any questions at all.

They we very professional and knowledgable. Eventually the pressure tank will go and when it does I will be calling them to replace it.

After the other positive reviews I read here, I was HUGELY disappointed by this company.

As I mentioned, I was at first heartened in that I got a quick response from the Owner (?) to come out to the property site to do the pressure test. I explained what the Home Inspector had found, and what we needed to know - was the drop in pressure the H.I. had recorded due to an issue with the well equipment, the pump, or was the well no longer yielding enough water? Where was the issue that caused the definite drop in pressure that the H.I. found, and that we and our RE Agent had witnessed? Depending on their findings, it would affect our decision to move ahead and put in a formal Offer to Purchase on the home.

We knew they were coming from another job. However, although they had both my and my Agent's cell phone numbers, and we were in a good reception area, we ended up waiting around. It wasn't until I had to call THEM that I found out that an emergency had come up, and they would be at our job later than they had estimated.

Both my RE Agent and I were flabbergasted that despite knowing that they needed to do a pressure test on the well, and see how the output changed over time, they showed up WITHOUT HOSES. My agent drove home and returned with some of her personal garden hoses for them to use.

Also, that was fine to and quot;testand quot; the depth of the well, but we already had the paperwork and inspections confirming the depth of the well hole itself, and the depth of where the pump was. That was NOT what we needed investigated. Plus, it seemed really rinky-d*** that one guy was poking around the yard and digging up little pebbles to drop down the well while the other timed it. I don't know if this is a standard practice, but it was a bit odd. I explained several times what we needed them to find out. They did take a look at the well equipment in the basement, and did report that the bladder could stand to be re-charged. They seemed to want to DO this (and a fee would be involved, of course), but since it was not our property, it absolutely wasn't our place to and quot;fixand quot; or alter the current homeowners' property in ANY way. Still, they strongly suggested two more times that we do this.

I had described at length what we needed to find out when talking with the owner and setting up the appointment. We needed to diagnose what the cause of the decrease in pressure was that occurred during the Home Inspection. But I never got any real information about that issue. We got the estimated depth of the well, and pressure readings from the one hour they guys were there, but the H.I. had seen the drop around or shortly after the 1 hour point. They didn't stay long enough to either experience or document this.

I was disappointed that I never got the writeup promised by the owner. I called and left a message asking for it again, and got no response. This and quot;diagnosticand quot; was a complete waste of time and money. We did not get any information that could help us before the deadline of when we needed to make a Formal Offer on the property, so we had to just use our own best guess and hope for the best.

I was also quite put off when the owner called me shortly after the guys finished the and quot;diagnostic testand quot;. Although it seemed at first that he was doing a due diligence in following up to make sure the guys had made it there, I suspect the actual reason was to make sure they'd remembered to get a check before they left. As soon as he had the information that they'd been paid in full, he was in a hurry to get off the phone.

Overall, I felt our use of this company was a real waste of both time and money. We will certainly never use them again.

"We wish we could have been able to respond to this a yr ago when the job took place, All we can do now is look at the invoice that you recieved with the recorded water levels after pumping your well at an average 6.7 gal. per min. for 1 hr. It dropped approx 200' and did slow from 11.7 GPM to 5.8 GPM in that short time. Also written on the inv. a note that we were asked to stop by homeowner and real estate agent. Sorry to find out that you were not happy. Again it would have been helpful to know a year ago. Let me know if I can refund you. Chip Johnson"

I've used these guys many times now, and would even think of calling anyone else. This time was a pump installation after lightening had struck close by. They explained why they knew it was either an electric surge or a lightening strike, and even told me I could have my insurance company call them if they gave me any grief! I was only responsible for my deductible, so the price wasn't an issue. It wouldn't have mattered anyway. I only call County Pump. Period. They are that good. Trustworthy, knowledgeable, friendly - absolutely the best company to work with. Chip is a real pro, and the guys that work for him are fantastic.

I spoke with the owner, Chip Johnson, on the phone for about 20 minutes. He explained what my problem was and all the options to fix it. He told me exactly what it was going to cost and how long it would take. Two days later, his two man crew arrived
with the new equipment and spent about 2 hours replacing the pump/motor and pressure thank. They then tested everything
out and instructed me how to get the water to run clear. One of the crew was Chip's son, Doug, who is every bit as helpful
as his father was. I am 100% satisfied with the work these guys did and give the company high marks for professionalism.
This was my second experience with County Pump, both were excellent.
