The work came out great.  Everything about this project has thus far taken way more time than I expected, except for Dave's work.  He kept me up on everything that was going on, walked me through each part of the step, coordinated the town inspector...basically was just great to work with.
But there's more...
On a Sunday night after the trench was dug, but before the electrical could be put in, we had a monsoon-like rain event in my town.  The trench was running downhill towards my house, and II was legitimately worried about flooding as a result (my house is in the low part of my yard).  Out of nowhere, Dave shows up, having stopped at Home Depot and grabbing sump pumps and garden hoses.  He proceeds to sump out the trench and make sure that any disaster was averted.  He did this on a Sunday evening when he wasn't even supposed to be there.  I did not call him, he just showed up and went above and beyond for a customer that he had only met a few days earlier.
re-read that last paragraph... THAT is a guy that you want to hire.  THAT is a guy that you feel lucky to have found.  I have had great, good, fair, and poor experiences with many contractors over my ~8 years of home ownership, mostly very positive.  I only write reviews for the exceptional ones, good or bad.  Dave Gallant is an exceptional one, based on the overall quality of his work, how pleasant he was to deal with, and also, based on what he did that day.  He took ownership of a project, he protected it, and came out in the middle of a monsoon because he knew it was the right thing to do.  I'd hire him any day.
