Working with HL Graham Associates ended in disaster. Things started ok -- Larry was a nice guy and punctual for our first meeting. He helped us get approval for our plans from the conservation commission. But when it came to the board of health and the septic system, Larry's "expert" advice was dead wrong and our expansion plans were rejected. Larry failed to warn us that the expanded house would be considered to be too big by the board of health, with too many bedrooms, for the septic system. In fact, Larry advised us that getting approval from the board of health wouldn't be an issue and never told us that having our plans rejected like that was even a possibility. Based on Larry's expert advice, we had already signed a P & S for the house and invested a lot of money in architect fees, etc. getting ready for expansion. In the end, we didn't buy the house because we couldn't expand it, which resulted in a legal dispute with the sellers and cost us significant legal fees and much of our deposit. In total, we lost over $20,000 because of Larry's mistake. Initially when the board of health rejected our plans, Larry apologized for his mistake in failing to recognize the issue himself. However, when we told Larry how much money we lost because of him and requested that he reimburse us for at least some of it, he refused to take any responsibility and referred us to his lawyer, who subsequently lied about what Larry was and wasn't hired to do. Our lawyer says we'll have to file a lawsuit in order to get reimbursed.
Description of Work: We hired Larry at HL Graham Associates as we were considering purchasing a home with the intention of expanding it. He provided engineering services regarding the expansion and advised us what plans would be approved by the local board of health and conservation commission, including issues related to the septic system. We also hired him to guide us through the approval process. We paid him $6000 for his services.
