Couldn't really have gone worse. So in a nutshell we were doing a full renovation of our kitchen (new cabinets and layout, tile, lighting, countertops, plumbing, electrical... everything). To start the process off I gave Anthony the layout from my cabinet guy. This was the exact detailed layout that our contractor would use. So it was accurate enough to give a good estimate on. Here is what happened in a brief write-up: Feb 21st - Anthony gave me the rough quote of $5,400-6,000 based on the stone that we wanted from Boston Granite. Mar 2nd - Anthony gave us a formal proposal of $7,247.42. He never exactly gave a reason why his quote was so far off but whatever. He also screwed up the proposal and used the wrong stone. We had one type of stone for our main countertops and a different type of stone for our large island. He put the wrong stones on the wrong counters. He thanked us for catching his mistake. No biggie. Then we had the global pandemic and didn't talk for a while. Our kitchen reno got pushed back as the contractor wasn't allowed by the Governor to work inside. May 13th - We received a new proposal of $7,998.80. It turns out the first proposal was for 3 slabs of stone. In fact we needed 4 slabs. So he charged us the full price of the additional slab, but said he didn't charge us for the additional slab, it was just more marble we needed. We asked about getting a little piece of the remnants so my wife could do a little table and he said no. Once again he said that we didn't pay for that extra stone, but we both know that we did. June 1st - Now he wouldn't contact my contractor. The contractor had the daily updates on the progress of everything, but Anthony refused to talk to him. I gave Anthony his name, company, email, and phone number but he wouldn't reach out. "It doesn't make sense for me to call him" is what he emailed me. Errrr, so it makes more sense for me to be the middle man? June 15th - They come to my house bright and early for the template. Besides dripping a lot of hot glue on my brand new tile, the crew is good (seriously, they couldn't just get a hot glue gun that didn't leak or maybe put a plate under it???). June 16th - The template guys suggested we should do a mitered edge on our bar area. I talked to Anthony and he did a new proposal, now $8,393.96. I told him $400 for an edge was kinda ridiculous considering all the marble was already paid for (that extra slab). June 16th - He then put together another proposal, now for $7,870.77 without the mitered edge. At this point (this was cheaper than the second proposal) I kinda felt he was just making up the prices as we went along. June 16th - We had asked to go to the fabrication shop to see exactly where the countertop layout would fall on the stone. We had marble so there is different veining, it isn't like uniform granite or quartz, so we wanted to approve what parts of the stone were used for what. Anthony said that would be great so on that Tuesday we drove up to Billerica. When we arrived we were less than pleased. Two of the marble slabs were totally destroyed (see pics) and the other two were heavily pitted. I asked why we weren't informed that the stones were destroyed before we got there. The foreman (same guy who came for the template) said it just happened this morning when they were moved. I tried calling Anthony 3 times at the shop in Ipswich but he wouldn't pick up the phone. He sent me an email later in the day that said "I don't appreciate you accusing us of damaging those slabs" (errr, YOU'RE OWN GUY SAID THEY DESTROYED THEM THAT MORNING) and "that is why they are called natural stone" (just so you know everything, natural stone has never been used successfully on countertops before). June 17th - We are now scrambling to try to find new slabs that will work. And then on my ride home I get another email from Anthony that only says, "We feel that it is in the best interest for all that A&S will return your deposit check to you". That was the whole email. I gave him my address and agreed. June 26th - Now I understand mail has been slow, but still no check. I email Anthony asking why I haven't received the check yet June 29th - Anthony gets back to me, "Check will be cut tomorrow". TOMORROW?!?! It hasn't been cut? In 12 days they couldn't write a check?!?! July 3rd - I finally receive the check. So long story short, no, I can't recommend their services.
