If you are interested in having your piano perform to optimize your playing technique, then I highly recommend that you contact Chris Pleim to install the Stanwood Action system on your piano, or on a piano you are considering purchasing. Chris is not only highly trained in installing this complex action, but was patient in answering all questions and showing me several action models in his Hyde Park studio. He is also a masterful tuner and I am always thrilled with the quality of his tuning on my Steinway, and trust that he spends the necessary time to meet his own "perfectionist" standards. Chris is also a lovely fellow to work with, gentle and kind, and highly responsive to making sure you get the best quality experience with your piano.

He showed the piano very neutrally, no hype, no "salesmanship" and on behalf of the seller accepted about 4K less than asking price. He made no attempt to sell me a refurbishing, which I did not want.
Of course, I had nothing but his word on matters of price/cost--but taking my old piano to his shop and selling it there saved me a huge headache, as I have no room for 2 pianos.
Plus, he did a sweet job installing the Stanwood System of micro-weight ultra-fine tuning.
Finally, he seemed to appreciate my playing and invited me to his shop to play, which because of distance I have not done.
Smart guy, seemed nice. I have not used his technical services.

I was disappointed with him because he never followed through. I told him to tune the piano but did not tune it. He has other people to do the tuning and then I told him I needed other work to be done by him and he never got back to me with it. I did have the piano tuned and I was happy with it but he was supposed to follow through but didn't. The price was a little bit high but probably because of the fact that tuning the piano will take hours. He didn't even call to find out if I was happy with it.

We initially communicated by email, then phone and I finally went to see some of the instruments he had.  He was able to guide me to find the perfect piano for me!  I use a piano technician who lives closer but the preparation he performed on the piano I purchased was top notch.

I found Chris on Angie's List and on the Piano Technician's Guild website provided by my daughter's piano teacher. He was easy to contact by phone. On the day we arranged for the tuning, Chris was running a little late, and at first I was a little irked because I had rushed to be home on time. But we connected by phone, and when it seemed it might be difficult to find another time in the next few days, Chris agreed to come to do the piano as we'd planned, even though it meant starting the tuning at about 4:45 pm. He was thorough and pleasant, spent more than an hour (almost two) on the piano. He wasn't phased at all by the homework being done on the living room floor, or the cat climbing onto the piano bench beside him. I highly recommend his services.
