My insurer first set me up to use another contractor, but I wasn't pleased that their preferred contractor tried to avoid meeting me to do the job, even though the insurer assured me they would. It was going to take overall about three hours out of my busy day to go to their shop and wait.
As I did some investigation, I found a great deal of recent media attention on the high percentage of auto glass installations done with inferior workmanship. I learned about how important a properly installed windshield is to the safety and structural
integrity of a car. Before then, I was oblivious to these facts. I figured as long as it doesn't leak, all would be good. Was I ever wrong! I further discovered there is a voluntary industry standard - a certification process that is of critical importance according to the most reputable and objective experts in an industry that seemingly does not have the greatest overall reputation. I learned that it is very important to use a contractor with AGSC (sometimes still referred to by the former name, AGRSS) certification. Allen Auto
Glass was one of maybe two in my general area with these credentials. The contractor on my insurer’s preferred list did not. After talking to the manager (owner maybe?) of Allen Auto Glass, it was clear to me I needed to make a switch to have these people do my windshield replacement instead of the originally scheduled ones.
I called to advise my insurer to redo the paperwork for the claim to tie it to Allen Auto Glass. They cautioned me that while they could do that, they could not guarantee the workmanship since this company was not on their preferred list. I am guessing all that truly means is that they give the insurer a good discount, which means nothing to me. Allen Auto Glass offers a guarantee for the life of the car anyway, and that along with the AGSC certification means much more to me than a guarantee my insurance company provides.
Allen Auto Glass didn't once suggest that I come to them. They instead asked when it would be convenient for them to come and meet me to do the job. The installer was not only on time, but actually even a little early and that worked out very well for me. After
he got the old windshield out, I went out and spent at least 20 minutes with him observing and asking many questions. He explained everything he was doing. He told of the types of things that can go wrong and the shortcuts that unscrupulous contractors too often take. However, he was careful not to speak negatively of any competitors, which also impressed me. He was efficient, polite, knowledgeable and professional. He was patient with my questions and answered
them thoroughly but concisely, and in understandable terminology.
As expected, I am 100% pleased and have had no signs of issues with the materials or workmanship. There is no question in my mind that I made the best choice.
Once a windshield is installed, there is no real way to determine if it was done correctly. The other company may have done it right, but I wouldn’t have any way of knowing that they did. The AGSC certification adds a sizable extra layer of assurance, so I’d strongly advise my fellow Angie’s List subscribers to look for it. It certainly appears that it can and does save lives.
Use Allen Auto Glass and you won't be let down. They vacuum out your car afterward and even give you a gift. It has their
advertising on it, but the gesture adds to the loads of evidence that they have great integrity and are a topnotch, customer-focused business.

I was really impressed with the professionalism, responsiveness and the fact that they just handled everything and made it easy for me. Hopefully I won't need their services much in the future biut I would highly recommend them. They sent me a thank you note - that is what put me over the top and prompted me to take the time to submit their name to Angies list and write this report - I rarely, if ever, do things like this. But I do think that when a small business is exceptional, people should know about it.
