Marathon Door & Glass Inc

I contacted a number of top rated providers I found on Angie's List to replace our two garage doors. Marathon Door was the only one that responded promptly. I received calls both from David (owner I think?) and their main office. David guided me through some questions about what I was looking me for, and then directed me to most likely candidate products on their website, which is much better than the other companies I looked at. He came within days to look at our garage, and I asked them to provide quotes for three different product options. Those quotes were generated AND emailed the same day, and contained representative house pictures and all specifications, along with clear itemized pricing. Because I picked the non-standard bright white, there was a 2.5 week turnaround they communicated to me in advance, and we then scheduled the installation. Their installers were professional, thorough, and efficient, removing my old doors and replacing the new ones in less than 3 hours. I was so impressed with the service and with the efficient running of this company. Very highly recommended.

The guys are Marathon where awesome, courteous, neat, respectful of the property. Nothing but great things to say about them. I would hire them again in a second.  Thanks to the Marathon team for a job very well done. 

Though he was very responsive and showed up on time, he replaced parts I didn't ask to be replaced without telling me the cost and getting approval beforehand.  (I had originally only asked for one wheel to be replaced)   Next thing I knew he handed me a bill for $400 to replace a couple of cables, wheels and springs.  I was speechless.

I needed 2 new doors 7' x 8' to be installed. Old doors were removed before hand and garage door openers disconnected.

1. Timing: Miserable. They promised to call day before to tell when they start installation. Didn't do it. I called that day morning to confirm, no answer, left message, no response. Waited till noon and got half day off just to sit at home and hope for better. They shown up after 1pm without notice.

2. Speed: Speedy. They did everything in less than 2 hours. Looking at result I wish they spend more time doing the job.

3. Quality: Awful.

    a. They put door rails touching the ground, instruction says 1" above. 2 problems here: Top section has about finger size gap between door and frame; it will start to rust faster having moister on the floor were rain and snow get inside.

    b. they put rails to close to the doors and wheels get squeezed by rails and started to hit them. Doors shake, make noise, and door opener refused to work due to high tension. I moved rails apart as must as I can, but I can't move lag bolts that hold the rails because new holes will be too close to old one. It is still a problem but I don't know how I can fix it.

    c. the floor in garage is not even and has about 1" decline to the left. They didn't account to that and doors get twisted which contributes to poor wheels work in rails. Again no fix there because it's hart to move bolts to new position.

    d. tension bars were installed on different level for 2 doors. One was against instructions and it looks ugly.

    c. despite the fact that I have door opener they put one tension string in the middle of the door so I had to reinstall it completely to be able to attach door opener to the wall.

    e. one door has wrong pieces where cable connects to the door and this prevents door opener security sensors at the bottom to be installed, otherwise those pieces will hit the sensors all the time. I tried to get correct one from Clopay but they sent wrong one again so I ended up buying correct parts online. But installer didn't tell me about upcoming problems with this piece and garage door opener.

    f. one tension bar assembly is not event bolted down to the wall.

They ask me to sign the papers even without showing that door are actually working and I can open them. They just wanted to be done as fast as possible. I got those guys through Homedport and I regret it. None of them care about job at all.

It was really terrific. The owner came out and he couldn’t have been nicer. He gave me a cost estimate right on the spot on what I needed to have done, and I agreed with him. I told him what I wanted to do and he had somebody out to the house within 48 hours to do the job. They were very quick. What I really was impressed with is the fact that, anytime I had anybody come out to the house, they cleaned up any kind of mess that they had on the floor after they were done. They cleaned everything up and it really was a very nice job. I would definitely use them again. I think that their customer service level was very high. They did exactly what they said they were going to do, within the timeframe he said they were going to do it. It was exactly right on estimate. The owner was very pleasant and easy to deal with, and the guy who came out and did the work was also professional and a very nice person. I would use them again and I would definitely recommend them to anybody who needs to have any garage door work or anything done. I had got a couple of quotes and I would say they were right on with everybody else. I think it was very good value for the dollar. The garage door works great. It actually works better now than when it was installed. They did an excellent job.

Our 2-bay garage is perhaps 100 years old and had some pretty messed up swing doors which made it nearly unusable (specially in winter). It needed some upgrading!
The door frames were not square. We had some dry rot issues. One of the bays was an addition with a low flat roof which concerned us with respect to putting in a motor. The other had a high roof with no obvious place to attach a motor. David came out to measure and size the job. He wasn't concerned about issues we thought would be show stoppers for installing modern doors in an old garage and he provided solutions for all of them which included some reframing. We were happy to be moving forward.
We had a slight snafu with one of the doors that arrived from the manufacturer  (Clopay) which had nothing to do with Marathon. Marathon's measurements were correct and (thankfully) documented.  The manufacturer's error stretched the lead time on one of the doors. However Marathon took care of all of that even though their costs were increased by having to make two separate installations instead of just once.
The guys who performed the install were very professional and courteous. David visited the site also to ensure that things were going according to plan and help with some of the difficulties of the job. They did a great job and we were left with a couple of well installed, good looking doors that work beautifully and finally made the garage usable.
We had asked a well-reviewed Angie's List installer to come look at the job and give us an estimate about a year earlier. His price was $2K more than Marathon and he would not do any of the necessary framing which would have requiried us to hire someone else to do that.  Marathon offered good value.

I wasn't too happy about that. The service call was $75 and $50 for the parts. I probably wouldn't use them again. The work he did was okay but I would have preferred that he actually fix the existing motor but he didn't like doing it.

Terribly-took over a year- finally when installed there is a gap of over 1/2" between door and floor. So much for spending the money to get an insulated door.

After Tracey came and met with us, we got more prices. She matched the lowest price we got. Our order was very custom from the sizes to the style. It was top notch! I had to reschedule the installation 3 or 4 times and they were willing to do it any day or any time. They came and did a site inspection to see if everything was ready and told us what had to be finished. They were professional when they installed, things were not even exactly done when they got here, but they were able to add the sheetrock they needed. It was installed and running in less than a day. I wanted to put another opener on the other side of the garage at the last minute and the owner went and got one and came out that day. We were very satisfied. They are even coming back out in the spring to touch up the paint for me, because it was too cold at the time of installation.

THEY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND WHEN THEY FOUND OUT THEY HAD PUT IN THE WRONG THING. THEY CAME BACK AND REDID IT WITH OUT MAKING US PAY. THEY GAVE GOOD RECOMMENDATIONS ON WHAT GARAGE DOOR OPENER TO GET. THEY WERE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE.

THE JOB WAS DONE WELL, BUT A LITTLE SLOW ON INITIAL APPOINTMENT TO MEASURE, AND JUST SHOWED UP, WHICH WAS FINE WITH ME BUT MAY ANNOY OTHERS. ALSO ONE PANEL OF NEW DOOR WAS DENTED AND HAD TO BE REORDERED, SO THE WHOLE PROCESS (FROM PURCHASE TO FINAL INSTALLATION) TOOK CLOSE TO TWO MONTHS.
