Simkins Tree Service

We had been using Leo since buying our home in 2001, he had just started his business, he was one guy and his truck and dog. We used him on a regular basis and he was our 'tree guy'. We never had a problem and found him honest, fair and hard working. I felt we had a great relationship and he was the one who performed the work and interacted with us. Many times we would add to the work needed as he pointed things out that he felt needed attention, we totally trusted his opinion. Then in 2015 we contacted him to do general tree work, the Japanese maple was touching the garage roof and wanted it totally cut back (which Leo had done on a regular basis) and other trees removed or cut back. A smart a** guy came out to do the quote, he was cocky and mouthy and I was taken aback, we never saw Leo. When the 'smart guy' said they were done the Japanese maple was still touching the roof of the garage and the pine trees had barely been touched. We explained EXACTLY what we wanted done and have NEVER had an issue before, doing the EXACT same trees done by Leo in the past. We called Leo and told him we were not happy with the work and he stood by his "smart a**" guy. We never saw Leo, he never returned the call when I received the bill, so I didn't pay the bill right away hoping out of pure respect for our long term relationship he would come out himself and go over the grounds so we could point out the problems. That never happened! So I paid the bill and hired someone else to do the work he didn't finish! It seems that now Leo is a 'big guy' with lots of work and workers he doesn't need the people who used him to get where he is today. It seems he doesn't bother now with the little jobs, he's going for the big buck jobs. So he sends out his foreman to do the small home jobs, but with a foreman who needs to learn some customer service manners and not take pure advantage of the 'little' people, you will need to take a shower after dealing with him, his previous job may have been in used car sales. Leo's a good guy, we were sad this happened as we have had the same electrician, plumber, septic, AC and heat etc., since we moved to this home and believe in using local businesses and giving back to our community, it's a shame that Leo has forgotten where he started and hires people who bring his business down.

He was reasonably priced and he did a great job.
I had them do some additional work. I had a multiple trunk tree. It was huge. There was a storm and it had fallen on the fence and fallen on my shed with another tree. It was huge branches. Some of the branches were the size of a regular tree. Insurance didn't pay anywhere near what I needed them to pay. There was one piece that was still standing of the multitrunks and they took that down too. It took a few phone calls to get things started. He is the first person I'd call if I needed work like this done again.

Simkins did an excellent job removing very large trees that overhung and/or were extremely close to two homes. They also removed stumps and cleaned up the debris. They were highly competent, professional, efficient, timely, and fairly priced (although we did not get many other estimates). Simkins had done excellent work for us previously and we were inclined to hire them again... a good decision.

They did a great job and took everything with them leaving the yard in excellent shape.

This is the very best arborist, for the price at least, in the area. We cannot say enough about him and the excellent work he does.
He and his crew are very pleasant to have around, professional and honest in every detail. I am about to use them again for pruning/removal of some trees overhanging our house, and I am sure the job will be just as we expect, the price will be fair, and the clean-up very thorough.

I had a tree that was damaged and weakened due to storm Sandy. It was
leaning toward my house and the lines carrying service to the house. I
also had some low hanging boughs from another tree that were resting on
the wires coming in to my house. Leo came out and gave me an estimate
(one of three that I got for this job). I called and we set up a time
for the work to be done. Another storm with high winds was predicted to
hit a couple of days before the work was to be done. I was concerned
that the tree would hit the house and take the wires with it. Even
though they were straight out with jobs because of tropical storm Sandy,
Leo managed to take the tree away and do the necessary work two days
earlier than planned so I wouldn't have to worry when the next storm
hit. This is not the first time that I have used his services and do
not hesitate to recommend Simkins Tree Service. They did an excellent job and left no mess behind. If I could, I would give them an A+ for going above and beyond.

It went extremely well. The owner came out a couple of day after my call. He gave me an estimate after explaining to me what needed to be done and listening to what I wanted done. The owner and his crew were kind and courteous. They came out on a Friday afternoon and had everything done in three hours. The price came in well below the owner's estimate. Best of all, they did not leave a mess on my lawn.

They did it all in one day. I liked everything about them. It's a small company and the owner came out and talked about what needed to be done. He recommended some stuff as to how to do it because I was thinking about doing something slightly different. His recommendation matched someone else's recommendation. His price was a lot less too.
