Paul and TRAM Construction are meticulous, conscientious, honest, and dependable contractors. We have used them twice already, doing an entire kitchen remodel and also a full basement remodel. *** I'm going to say this first, because I know people skim reviews: Paul is a man you can depend on. He always returns your calls, and if there is ever a problem with the work he does, he will keep coming back until it's fixed. For example, we had a problem with a kitchen skylight where (1 year after installation) the motor started malfunctioning and wouldn't close properly in the rain, and Paul escalated the situation repeatedly until the manufacturer came out and replaced it. That's the kind of contractor you want on your side! Now for the rest of the review: For both remodels, Paul was supportive of all our ideas, but didn't hesitate to tell us when our ideas would be too expensive for our budget, likely to cause issues given the the home's layout and structure, or just "not worth it" in terms of "bang for the buck" in the end result. The decisions were always ours, but we appreciated his honesty and ability to clearly explain what he saw as problems. Paul also has so much experience that he gave us great suggestions that we otherwise wouldn't have thought of, such as opening a big skylight into the kitchen. Even some things he did that we didn't expect ended up being great decisions in hindsight. For example, the extra-wide window openings he added in our basement remodel easily doubled the natural light entering our basement. Paul's also not one of those contractors that quotes you a super-low bid and then does shoddy work with poor materials (we made that mistake before finding Paul, and it haunts us to this day). Paul quotes fair prices and does excellent work. You can tell just from the care he puts into the moulding alone that he is a craftsman that takes pride in his work. Paul's crew is friendly, talented and professional. When doing demolition and construction they were very respectful of the fact that we were still living in the house. They sealed off areas carefully and always cleaned up spotlessly every night before leaving. When I came home from work after the first day of construction, there was a giant gutted shell where our old kitchen walls used to be, but the living room right next to it was spotless! I'll say this in closing: every other tradesman who has been in our house always stops to ask us who did the kitchen, and comments on how high quality the work is. That says a lot. Paul is our contractor for life. Give him a try, and he'll be yours too.
