It could not have gone better. Jeff does extraordinary carpentry work. Extraordinary. He and his team — especially Lucas — are noteworthy for their attention to detail and thoroughness. Little details, like the scalloping of edges where wood meets antique chimney brick, are addressed in clever, sophisticated ways. Drawers and hinges close perfectly. In a home full of odd angles and uneven lines from centuries of settling, Thompson created lines that were true and squared up the space. The team arrived on time — even early sometimes — and were courteous, thoughtful and incredibly accommodating to our busy family. Yes, they charge a premium. I promise you it's well-earned in the quality of the craftsmanship and the choice of materials. Jeff was terrific about giving us choices at every step in the process, and explaining the implications of each decision. We have several upcoming projects we'd like to tackle, and it's our plan to work with Jeff and his team on every one of them. Great work, great team to work with, absolutely trustworthy in every way.

The windows took a lot longer to install than we were led to believe. I took off work the day the project was supposed to start but got a call from Jeffrey mid morning to say that one of his employees was sick and they could not start that day. So we rescheduled for the next week, I took the day off and Jeffrey called me to say someone else had been in the hospital and they could not start the job. Really? And I wasted two days off for this? So they finally start on the windows. They did a decent job but a a few weeks after the project I discovered a couple dozen holes that had apparently been drilled into the wood above the windows (see posted pics). I immediately called Jeffrey and he said that those holes were to be expected (again, really?) and they were not responsible for fixing them. I told him I thought they were responsible and he finally agreed to patch them - said they would be over in the next week or two. I'm still waiting. Like the old saying goes, when the phone didn't ring, I knew it was Jeffrey! In addition to all the holes, the crew trampled all the plants we had underneath the windows. Absolutely demolished everything. It was like they ran a 20 ton crane through the area. We ended up having to replace everything there later in the spring. During the windows project, they started on the shelf project. This was a total disaster. The shelves were not right and did not work as planned. Jeffrey came to the house, agreed that the shelves were a mess, declared "We will tear these down and build you new ones from scratch!" Well, the carpenter came by a few days later and basically replaced a few of the pieces of wood but it did not fix the problem - the shelves are still a mess and cannot be properly used for what they were designed for. I was very unhappy with the work performed by Thompson Builders. I would not ever consider them for any projects at my home and would never recommend them to others.
