Dan’s Custom Hardwood Floor

A year later, I am very disappointed. Places where water naturally goes are clearly not sealed. Under the kitchen table, there are many more marks and scratches than I had expected, especially since we put felt pads on the bottom of the chairs. We moved into this house 16 years ago. The floors in the other parts of the house are still fine. The areas of my kitchen and entry (where Dan's sanded--great job--and refinished--"??????) continue to show more and more wear. I don't think they did a great job, at the very least in communicating. As I stated in my original review, it was an extremely humid summer when the work was done. Yet I don't really think that felt-footed kitchen chairs should scrape off the finish in less than a year, especially since it too about 15-20 years to get the to the point where they needed refinishing. The provider said they would "reevaluate" but I am not sure what that means, especially since they wrote that they can't control how floors are used. Hmm. sounds like a co[-out to me. The floors (including those in the dining room and bedrooms) that Dan's did not do ar still fine, get almost as much wear as the kitchen (which they did do) and yet they were last redone 18+ years ago. Not to mention that the area around the sink is showing dark lines between boards that were not there before. I honestly don't know if it was the humid conditions that caused this. I do know, however, than at kitchen floor should not need re-finishing every year. Again, I was told 2-3 days for drying, waited 8, and then had to come back into my home (the hotels got pretty expensive). I would have preferred using the extra 4-7 days hotel expense on a better job. I know I will probably not get any re-do, or compensation. In the case of wood-floor refinishing in a kitchen/entry, this job did not last. This review is more important than the first one because one always takes a first cosmetic look and is usually pleased. It is the test of time that is important.; I get that it takes longer to "cure" in humidity. But 3x the time should be noted. And even then, I think the finish was not right. My almost 20 year old floors are still great (including in bathrooms). But not he ones Dan's did in 2015.

The experience with Jimmy from Dan's Hardwood Flooring was excellent. We had another flooring company install, stain and finish hardwood floors. The company did a very poor job, forcing us to have to find another company to re-sand, re stain and re finish the floors. We decided to go with Dan's Hardwood Flooring. We explained to Jimmy the situation and let him know that we were going to be very observant and detailed about the work that was going to be done. Jimmy was understanding, went over the entire project with us, spending several hours one evening going over stains to ensure we were happy with the color. We never felt rushed and Jimmy was always available for questions. Several times we called him about things we noticed with the job, and he always answered the phone and came to the house to explain our question. We did have one minor issue with the stain (one area had a lighter coat then the rest of the floor), Jimmy agreed that it was an issue and that day he himself came and fixed the issue, staying late into the night to ensure the project would get completed on time. All in all it was a great experience and wish we had gone with Dan's Hardwood Flooring from the start.

Having had previouos experience with this same work, I knew what I wanted and what questions to asked.
Jimmy, the manager was very knowlegeable and answered all my questions. His was the second of three estimates I got and was very competitive.
I must say that I made an excellent choice. The job was was superior in all aspects, quality, cleanup, curtesy and punctuality.
You could not tell that there ever was a carpet in the family room because the patch job to the kitchen was done so well.
The final outcome was awesome!

Stayed in touch prior to install, Very flexible on timing. Showed up on schedule and installed the flooring perfectly. The installers were crafts people who cut each piece of wood to insure a perfect.Followed up post install to ask how we felt about and promptly to make some adjustments we did not initially notice.

in and out in three days...sanded and finished, then put on second coat of finish on second day....virtually dust free operation as they taped off all doors and a stairwell....very nice workers tho there was a minor language barrier so I called the owner of the business and he translated for us...I would hire the company again without any hesitation....

Sorry about the price.  I don't remember, as it was last summer, and you guys asked now. Still it might be valuable, since my comments are based on how the floor has held up, as well as the job when it was being done.
It took a while to get an appointment, and there was a slight language barrier when scheduling.  That's ok, but it made it difficult to be sure how long it would take to sand, dry, and cure.  They said 2-3 days, but it was actually more than a week before I could return to my house, as the floors were still sticky.  This is not the contractor's fault, It was summer, and very humid.  However, it would have been helpful if they had communicated that the humidity would slow down the process, as the work covered both my front and back doors. Thus, I had to stay in a hotel for a week (the rest of my family was away, which is why I  scheduled it when I did).  After about 7 days I opened the door, and, while the floor was still not 100% perfect, it was no longer sticky, so I moved back in.  It took a long time for it to dry completely, and even longer for it to really seem set.  Again, this information would have been helpful for planning.
The sanding they did was great. A+.  They even got out some old, dark scratches that were here from before we moved in.  See above for communication C.  As we have lived with the floors, they seem less scratch-resistant than the other floors in the house (which were last redone over 20 years ago).  There are also a few places where the finish seems to have pooled, and a couple of places where it seems as though something (not me) had been on the finish while it was being done.  So,, B.  
I'd use them again, but I would make sure that they, as the experts, gave me all of the information as to factors like humidity and curing (vs. drying) time.  Also, I might have asked how many coats of finish would be needed for the floors to be at their best. This is a communication problem.  I wish they would have been clear, but they really did do a good job.

This is a fantastic company that I would use again in a heartbeat!  The price was fair and the quality was top-notch.

I had Dan's flooring install 1/2 a floor in my condo in JP.   Jimmy and his crew did an amazing job, and went ABOVE AND BEYOND working with me to blend the new white oak with the old white oak.
Dan's custom is by far the most professional, communicative, and helpful contractor I've had in years.  
The end result was stunning, and they worked very hard to achieve the desired result.
I would recommend Dan's custom to anyone who needs flooring work.

The first date went by because of a scheduling mixup but after that everything went as expected with zero issues and the quality of the work was great.

They were really spectacular. It was $1,400 for the whole home! People can't believe it when they see the floor, especially if they saw the old flooring.

We just purchased a new home that we wanted to have the floors refinished. One of the rooms had a much darker stain then the rest of the home and a few portions had missing pieces of wood.  I contacted Dans Custom Hardwood Floors and corresponded with Kenneth Nguyen about the service. Due to some scheduling conflicts on our end we needed to reschedule the meeting to go over the project with Kenneth and he was very accommodating to our needs.  When we finally met, we went through what we would like done and discussed our concerns.  We had some floors done on another home and had issues with how the finish was laid (it got everywhere).  Kenneth reassured us that his team was detailed oriented and ensured us we wouldn't have the same issue.  He also explained that the home would be left clean of any dust caused by the sanding process.
The job took Kenneth's team three days to repair, sand, and put two coats of finish.  The results look fantastic and now all the floors are the same color!  The price was very reasonable too.

Jimmy did the free estimate. He was running late but called to let me know and check that the new time was still okay. Estimate was received within a day or two. Crew was punctual and efficient, job was completed in the time promised and the floors looked completely different, almost new. Would use them again.

We were more than pleased with the excellent job Dan's two employees did. The floors couldn't look better. The men showed up on time on the day scheduled and completed the work in two days. Everything was left in order with very little residue of dust. We would highly recommend this company to anyone who expects superior quality work, done on time and at a fair price.

I can't say enough positive things about this company.  My contact, Jimmy, had to be the person who called me and tell me that the house that I had just purchased not even a week before had termite damage that was not disclosed by previous owners.  This is the first property I have ever purchased and after hearing that I was obviously very upset to hear about the damage and the cost to repair it.  Jimmy did went above and beyond to be kind to me and guide me through the steps of getting the issue addressed and resolved.  Not only was he a kind person with great business sense, but the actual finished product was so amazing that I literally shed a tear.  Absolutely amazing, I would definitely use this company again and refer him to my family and friends.

We are very happy with the quality of work performed by Ken and his crew.  Ken was very responsive, on-time and efficient.  He was able to get his crew to our house in time for the floors to dry before the movers were to arrive.  His crew even took the time to sweep up the walkway where some of the hardwood flooring material had spilled.  Our floors look like glass!!! - we are so happy with them.  Would us these guys again anytime!

This company was timely, competitive, easy to work with, and cordial. Jimmy was very knowledgeable and helpful. We only had one hiccup when our contractor scratched the newly finished floors, so Dan's flooring had to return to refinish the floor for an additional fee (paid for by our contractor thankfully). Unfortunately, the finish was applied too quickly and pooled in a couple areas. Although an inconvenience, Jimmy returned to smooth it out and make it as transparent as possible. The rework was effective and we appreciated the effort. We enjoyed working with Dan's flooring and would recommend them to anyone.

Dan's Hardwood Floors did a fantastic job.  They promptly provided an estimate for the job and the quote was very reasonable, among the several I obtained. They did a great job advising us about our choices (water or oil based poly), natural vs. stains, etc.  They started the job as planned and finished in a timely manner.  The job was only delayed due to a heat wave and things taking an extra day to dry (we do not have central air).  The floors look fantastic and they followed up to make sure we were satisfied.

The floors had been beat up by the tenant. The floors now look like new!  I checked the floors carefully and found no imperfections in the work. Everyone who sees the floors say" WOW ". I would highly recommend Dan's Custom Hardwood Floors !

We hired Dan's Custom Hardwood Floors to fix bad installation of water based finish after another company (part of major home remodeling project). I called Ken to set up an appointment. He came over to our house to assess the job and recommended the best course of action to fix the look and feel of the floor. I specifically selected Dan's Custom HF because they are certified in the product I was using (Bona). Unfortunately, previous company did such a bad job that the only solution to get it right was to go down to bare wood. The price was also very reasonable considering the scope of work and type of finish. I was very worried about having go though the pain of dust in the house, but since this floor is the main focal point of our house, we decided to go ahead and schedule the work.
Upon scheduled date and time, the refinishing crew arrived. Jimmy walked with me through the house and explained what and when will happen. The team was working on the floors for three days. They were extremely efficient and clean. I also had a chance to learn about the floor installation and maintenance when talking to Jimmy - he's very knowledgeable. Also, they use special dust containment system, there was NO dust in the house - none! I initially did not believe it (considering my past experience with floor sanding) and I spent most of the weekend prior to the job protecting everything with plastic film. I turned out to be a waste of time as no cleanup afterwards was necessary. The job was completed as expected, and we could not be happier with the results. The floor looks absolutely beautiful. Thank you Ken, thank you Jimmy - you saved our floors!

My husband and I closed on our house on July 26th. We knew we wanted to have the floors refinished as quickly as possible, so that we could move in our furniture by mid-August. Ken was extremely responsive to my request for an estimate and was at our house the very evening we closed. He asked us questions about staining the wood, the number of people in the home, whether we had pets, etc. All of his questions were designed to assist him in determining the best solution for us and our floors. He meticulously measured our rooms and pointed out imperfections. If there were areas he thought wouldn't respond as well as others, he was very up front about that as well. Overall, he gave us the sense that he knew exactly what he was doing and took pride in his craft.
We saw several other contractors the next morning, and while two had better pricing, we knew that the job would be be best done by Ken. When we booked the job with him, we were delighted to learn that he was able to start two days ahead of his original quoted start date. He began the job on Wednesday and when I inquired on Thursday to check on anything he might need, he informed me that he stayed late on Wednesday so he was able to finish the job for us on Thursday. This would give us plenty of time to let the floors cure before we moved in our furniture.
To say that the finished floors are beautiful would be an understatement. I can't believe that the floors we have now are the same as the ones we had last week. Compared to the finished product, it is easy to see that the floors were in even rougher shape than we thought, and were trapped under years of dirt, grime and neglect. Now, they shine to perfection.
We are so pleased with the work Ken did and would call him again without hesitation. I highly recommend Ken. His level of professionalism and attention to customer service is impeccable. And our floors look amazing, to boot!
