My 88 year old mother and 92 year old father hired Allan Evangelista for various home remodeling purposes. Allan Evangelista stated that he was completely licensed. His advertisements indicated a Construction Supervisors License. He confirmed that he was licensed and held a one million dollar accidental insurance policy. According to my mother, Allan Evangelista talked a very confident story. My elderly parents provided Allan Evangelista with funds to purchase the necessary materials to fashion 2 new kitchen cabinet doors, 2 new bathroom cabinet doors, an oak door sill for a downstairs room, and materials to remodel their interior staircase. Some minor carpentry labor was required off-site to create the cabinet doors as well as sand and prime them. He also sanded down the (11) oak steps. Eventually my elderly parents began to question Mr. Evangelista's ability to tell the truth and his willingness to start the project as agreed. His skill sets as a carpenter were not initially in question as a Harwich resident was interviewed who purchased a home from Allen Evangelista. He did considerable remodeling to it. She indicated that he did a quality job in constructing an addition to the house. My elderly parents, however, did experience problems with the quality of Allan Evangelista's work. During the project, my elderly parents observed that Allan Evangelista staggered the delivery of materials over a prolonged period of time. It was a very painful delay for my elderly parents. The (11) oak steps were quality but most carpenters would have purchased oak steps with returns. My parents agreed to purchase pine runners based on Allan Evangelista's consultation. Instead, Allan Evangelista should have consulted them to purchase poplar boards. The existing staircase's pine risers were not warped. The new pine risers purchased by Allan Evangelista did show signs of being warped and therefore proved unacceptable for their staircase project. Overall the kitchen doors were impressive but one door showed saw marks on it thereby making it unacceptable. The other pine door had a slight bow in it. My parents wanted Allan Evangelista to review the two doors in question but he abandoned the entire project by that time. The two bathroom cabinet doors were never delivered. Because Allen Evangelista refused to begin the work at my mother's request, I had to intervene on their behalf. I contacted the Dept of Public Safety, Licensing Bureau to find out more about Allan Evangelista. I discovered that Allan Evangelista's Construction Supervisors License (CSL) was suspended in 2008 because he trespassed the required building codes. His HIC license was terminated at an earlier time. I also discovered that Allan Evangelista was forced to declare bankruptcy sometime in 2008. Mr. Evangelista has been operating underground and off the radar since that time. He evidently makes his meager living from skimming the cost of materials. I suspect he would have to scam a lot of customers in order to make a descent living and in today's construction economy that would be difficult for anyone. According to my elderly parents, Mr. Evangelista constantly fabricated stories about his family and would use these same stories as excuses not to begin the work. Given the circumstances, it's doubtful that Mr. Evangelista can support or maintain a sound family unit. My mother's last phone call to Allan Evangelista was mid-December 2011. I advised my mother not to contact him anymore. I became concerned for her safety. I urged my parents to to hire a new carpenter. They agreed. The newly hired Master Carpenter was found on Craigslist prior to this subscription to Angie's List. The new carpenter had excellent credentials, was properly licensed, finished the work on time, and did a wonderful job. I can only forewarn homeowners not to hire Allan Evangelista. He evidently targets senior citizens only to prey on them. I would be careful not to let him enter your home. Allan Evangelista lacks a work ethic. From what my parents observed, Allan Evangelist will underbid all other contracts in order to obtain work. He will inflate material costs sufficiently to make some amount of money, stagger the delivery of materials and abandon the work effort altogether. He was never paid actual labor except for minor carpentry work done off-site which was incorporated into the material costs. My elderly parents welcome a phone call from Allan Evangelista to settle their small account. Any sane and ethical carpenter would jump at the opportunity to settle this moderately small account with the guarantee that this posting will be removed. For this reason they welcome his call. I doubt, however, that Allan Evangelista will call them. Friends of the family still report that Mr. Evangelista continues to falsely advertise a (CSL) Construction Supervisors License. If this is a true report, I assume that Allan Evangelista never looks back, doesn't care about his reputation, and continues to cheat the elderly.
Description of Work: From the total amount provided Allan Evangelista - my elderly parents financially lost somewhere between $175 to $285 overall. The loss of time, frustration & being lied to by Allan Evangelista can't be measured in human terms. The lies became very elaborate and frequent. Friends of the family still report that Mr. Evangelista continues to falsely advertise a (CSL) Construction Supervisors License which was suspended in 2008. It could have been much worse had Allan Evangelista actually started the onsite labor of their remodeling project. Allan Evangelista agreed to remodel various areas of my parent's home. He agreed to purchase materials to fashion two kitchen cabinet doors, two bathroom cabinet doors, an oak door sill for a downstairs room, and the necessary materials to remodel a staircase. Some minor carpentry work was required off-site for the cabinet doors which was incorporated into the cost of materials. The details are listed below for this specific work. He eventually abandoned the project altogether after delivering partial materials. A portion of the delivered materials were still usable. The project was eventually completed by a different carpenter.
