"We are sorry you were not happy with the project results. The proposal for the work included a fixed cost to supply/install the exterior door and it had an estimated cost for replacing rotted exterior trim and clearly said the repairs would be done for the cost of materials plus labor. There were more repairs made at your request such as deck posts and more decking. we are. We understand the final amount was more than the estimate but the document you signed to was clear about the cost being estimated."
Here are my takeaways from the experience:
- Their work was high quality
- I felt as though I was kept informed for every step of the project (and I am a bit of a micromanager lol)
- I was given the names and phone numbers of workmen who were going to show up at my house.
- Jim (and all of his workmen) returned my texts promptly, EVEN on Sundays!!!!!!!!!
- When I met with the electrician (Kevin) he listened to all my concerns and exceeded my expectations.
- Every workman that showed up was Polite, Professional, Punctual and Cleaned up after themselves.
- Work was done when I was told it would be done.
- On the two occasions where workmen were not able to come, I was contacted the night before and told when the workmen would return.
I would not hesitate to recommend and rehire Redman Construction in the future.
"HI [Member name removed] thank you for taking the time to post a review of our services. We are leased to hear you are happy with your project and we look forward to being considered for any future projects you may be considering. Best Jim"
Their sons and another guy did the actual work. Similarly good guys. They banged out the demo in half a day, and were even able to get the electrician over on Day 1 to do his thing. They nearly finished the reframing that day, too.
There was an issue when they said they didn't know they were supposed to patch the floor, and that it would cost more. They had thought the replacement hardwood pieces were only for the threshold. I was a bit incredulous. Why would anyone want a 7-foot wide hole above the subfloor in their kitchen? Obviously the floor required needed to be patched. Plus, they had planned and charged for three days work. They were nearly done after one day.
I talked it through with Jim, and we agreed it was a misunderstanding of some kind. The guys did finish the job, including the floor patch, at no additional cost.
However, the floor patch was not done well. Five months later, and there are some quarter-inch gaps between flooring pieces. And the threshold-long piece of maple they put down isn't entirely flush to the floor on one end (sticks up slightly). Because the flooring gaps are in a spot that cannot be covered up with a plant or something, it will need to get fixed sooner or later.
This was a 3 month general upgrade to a ranch style house built in 1960. Main house is 3 bedroom 1 bathroom 38'x24' with a 1 room addition 20'x14' added on about 1970. I had the roof replaced and electrical system upgraded from 100 amp to 200 amp about 5 years ago so they did not need anything done at this time. Just a little history.
As for this project a lot of things were done for upgrading.
Removed all old wooden siding and replaced with vinyl cedar impression siding. It costs about 25% more than regular vinyl siding but is well worth it if you can fit it into your budget.
Replaced 17 old wooden windows with Harvey vinyl double hung windows.
Replaced 2 old wooden exterior doors with therma true fiberglass doors and 2 new Harvey aluminum storm doors.
Replaced basement exterior door with new insulated steel door.
Replaced metal slider door off kitchen with new Harvey vinyl slider door.
Replaced a total of 10 inside doors to bedrooms and closets.
Replaced countertop, sink, and faucet in kitchen.
Did a total demolition of bathroom, new walls, new ceiling and new tile floor. Installed new water saving toilet, replaced
old bathtub with new 3 piece walk in fiberglass shower. Installed new vanity cabinet with sink and new medicine cabinet.
Installed new vanity light, new ceiling light with vent to outside.
Demolished old 12x10 rotted out wooden deck off kitchen and built new 12x10 3 season room (veranda pvc) with interchangeable screens for summer and glass panels for winter.
Replaced old wrought iron railings (showing their age) from 2 front cement stoops with new veranda plastic white railings.
"HI (Member name removed) glad to hear you are pleased with the work done at your home. I will be sure to pass on your comments about the crew as they like to know their hard work is appreciated. Good luck Jim"
