Please do not bring your pet here. Last week I brought my cocker in here for a toenail issue. My vet referred me to these people. Dr. Thomson attended to him. After sedating him and treating him they sent us home. 20 minutes later in my car I was in a horrible situation. My dog was struggling for his life. After racing to Boston Rd. animal hospital my dog and friend passed away. It's too painful to give the details of how it played out. They did this procedure after he had eaten breakfast and after the procedure they had me take him home before he was stable. I will never forgive them for what they did to my dog Sam, me, and my wife. Please stay away from this place. FYI..the attending doctor has acknowledged his errors and poor decisions that cost my dog his life.

Dr. Burgess is excellent and does not pressure the pets' owner to make decisions right away and tests only for what is absolutely necessary.

I arrived at the Hospital with trepidation as my previous vet no longer worked at Riverbend. I hate establishing a new relationship with a vet because I want to be involved with making decisions re my dog's healthcare rather than simply being a recipient of services. I met Margaret Burgess, DVM, and spent close to an hour with her. She was very informative, seemed open to working with me re aspects of my dog's wellness with which she did not agree, and gave me Internet sites so I might make informed decisions about new recommendations re vaccinations. Dr Burgess did a thorough wellness exam on my 7 year old male saluki, gave him his rabies vaccination, and took blood at my request for a complete blood count and chemistry panel as well as for routine parasite testing. She got back to me very quickly with the lab results and told me I could call her for further discussion.

The cost of the actual visit was VERY reasonable...around $50... considering the amount of time Dr Burgess spent with me. The extra blood work I requested cost around $125. Routine lab work for heartworm and tick infections, fecal and urine testing, rabies vaccination, and preventive meds for heart worm and flea/tick all totaled came to about $200. Prevention meds are always a hefty portion of my yearly vet wellness bill. However, I believe in getting my preventive meds from the vet rather than online or at a pet store even if the cost is more. The online service or pet store won't be there to help me should my dog have a negative reaction to the med.

I liked Dr Burgess very much and would not hesitate to see her again. I've always liked Riverbend Animal Hospital and have been going there for 8 or 9 years with three different dogs. Even though some of the doctors and staff have recently changed, it appears the services have remained top of the line.
