Went well. Driveway was soft due to rain and was not able to get large truck in position. Supervisor revised plan. Work was completed satisfactorily with no damage to driveway.

We have been clients of Valley Tree since we purchased this property 8 years ago and were pleased with the company until the past year or so when it appears there was a management change.  They have done good work diagnosing problems and spraying and fertilizing.  The issues began when we had some large overhanging oak limbs removed about 18 months ago.  I had asked that they come while the ground was frozen to minimize damage to the lawn but because of winter storms that called their tree climbers out of state, they actually did the work in April 2014 when the ground was soft (worst possible time).  The trees are located on a wooded slope that contains various wild and cultivated plants and it was hard to avoid everything.  In addition there was still patchy snow on the ground. They subsequently worked on the lawn damage and I also did a fair amount of work on it.
We soon discovered that an uncommon willow had been split down the middle by a large falling piece of wood. The arborist said they would replace the plant but also took a piece to try to root.  October 2015 I am still waiting for the replacement plant having been told numerous times that it was ordered and also that the initial cutting rooted but died from neglect.  My latest conversation with the manager was extremely unpleasant as he brusquely indicated that although it has been ordered (again!!) they were under no obligation to replace it since it was not pointed out to them prior to beginning work and that the original piece never took root.  The cost of the replacement is about $20 (including S&H) since it is a small whip of a thing.  I don't know what happened to the other replacements that were "ordered".  I know it is not locally available but have found several places online and offered to buy it myself if they will reimburse me.
The fact that they do not place the value of a customer's loyalty and patience at more than $20 but felt justified in complaining that I was unfair in expecting them to replace the plant (I had been told previously that it was not a problem) coupled with the fact that I have had no response to calls in the past month to schedule some additional work have forced me to end my relationship with this company.
So, if you want a tree service company that will do adequate work at a reasonable price but doesn't care about customer satisfaction, consider Valley Tree.

They were conscientious. I was very impressed that they made sure that they did not do any damage to my neighbor's lawn. In fact, they even waited and came back out to make sure the ground was frozen before doing any work.

The crane was placed on a pad, leaving no marks on the lawn or driveway. The trees from the buffer zone were removed, by being cut in pieces and lifted over the house. No trace of cut wood and brush was left on the ground or in the trees of the buffer zone, as per the requirement of the Conservation Commission. The crane operator and tree sawyer were very professional. No part of the house or roof was damaged. Two trees close to a septic tank was removed in full without disturbing the tank. A tree was removed from overhanging the garage without disturbing the garage. They did a very professional job and left no trace.

Based on A.L. reviews I contacted a couple local tree service companies and Valley Tree Service was the quickest to respond and the most professional. I had a large (taller than my 2 story house) maple tree that was splitting at the trunk. Since my power drop line went right between large branches of the tree I wanted it removed before a winter storm took it and my power out. I also wanted the stump ground as well as another tree stump the previous owner left. They emailed me a proposal for the work and the price (790 for the tree and 490 for the stumps) seemed fair to me. I made sure they were experienced with dealing with working around power lines ( I assumed they were but had to ask) and they responded satisfactorily to all my concerns. I scheduled the work and they called me before starting the work. I came home from work that day and the whole tree was down. The next day (Friday) they removed it all and on Monday they ground the stumps. Other than the power drop line they had easy street access and the yard was left clean with minimal (less than expected) lawn damage. The stumps had large roots that were above above the ground that I would have liked to have ground down but that wasn't done and I don't know if they would have been able to do it anyway since all this was done while I was at work and I didn't even see the equipment used.

Update: They did indeed return and remove the surface roots. If only all businesses could have this level of service and commitment to customer satisfaction. Thank you everyone at Valley Tree Service.

"Thank you for your very positive report. I'll have one of our arborists check your surface roots. Maybe we can get them as well."

They cut down a three very large trees for me level to the ground, and cleaned up after themselves. There wasn't anything left for me to do. They took care of everything. They charged $200 per tree, which was comperable to everyone else.

Trimmed high branches through power and cable lines in front of house. The lines had come down from the branches with the last storm and I really needed them trimmed back. Shaped and greatly pruned two extremely over-grown shrubs in front of house. These are problem shrubs due to their over-grown size and I can only contain them now. They were growing against the house and windows and the pruning was super. I now have space between the shrubs and the house letting air and light in finally! And all the dead lower branches are gone. I used to hear them swaying against the house and windows all night! So much better now! Cut and trimmed tall branches on side and back of house hanging over 2nd story roof and back porch- had to climb tree to do the work -unable to get buck truck on side of house- they were great! Take that squirrels! Clean up great too. Can't say enough- they were great- office folks, estimate, crew- thank you all! Would definitely use services again.

After interviewing a number of tree removal companies, we chose Valley Tree Service because of their price and their professionalism. It turned out that VTS had the best price, but we probably would have chosen them over the others anyway due to the way they conducted the estimate.

Along the way, I had to call the office a few times to get updates on when the work would be done, etc, and I feel that they can improve a bit on letting you know what's going on, but when contacted, they were always very helpful and responsive. Once the work was scheduled, they showed up to complete the job on time.

The day the work was done, Steve showed up to make sure that everything was going well. Despite it being pretty much the hottest day of the year, the two service men did an excellent job of trimming / removing the trees and cleaning up afterwards.

During the service, they accidentally knocked the chimney cap off the chimney and partially knocked down the cable TV wires going to the house (it was a tight squeeze for the truck, though). They promptly disclosed their mistake and fixed the problems.

We were in a hurry to have the tree removed before damage was done to our house. We looked up local tree services and researched their ratings on Angie's List. We contacted Valley Tree Service and they came to our house for an estimate the same day. We felt they were in the reasonable price range, considering the storm damage in the area, and were able to come the next morning as a normal vs. emergency service. Two men came with the truck and performed the service. They discussed the procedure and were very careful removing the branches leaning on the house first. They then removed the tree and trimmed the large broken branches from the tree that caused the problem. They removed the trees and chipped them. We were very satisfied with the work, the professionalism of the crew, and the end results.
