We hired Earthscape last Fall to redo the brick walkway and
stairs in front of our house.
Josh Degen from Earthscape came and provided a verygood assessment of how the original walkway had been badly constructed without a proper base. He gave us a thorough estimate with detailed descriptions for each of the tasks involved in building a new walkway - such as excavating the area to a proper depth, putting down a base layer of crushed stone, installing a top layer of screed stone dust, installing the bricks and steps, installing paver edge restraints, filling the brick joints with polymeric joint stabilizer. Josh told us that the bricks used in the original walkway were of high quality and reused all of them with no wastage at all. The original walkway had used 10 slabs of bluestone for the steps. Josh offered to take them and give us a $500 credit for it and he advised us to use granite blocks instead for the steps. Earthscape gave us the best overall estimate for the project and theirs was 10-15% more competitive than the others we got. I happened to be working from home during the
period when they did the work and observed a lot of the construction process. Josh brought in a team of well experienced and professional workers who did a very thorough job of everything.
During the course of this project, I brought up the idea of installing a lighting system for the new walkway. Josh offered us very good advice on this as well, installing a Cast Lighting system with China Hat bronze & copper path lights along the walkway, copper & brass spot lights to illuminate the façade of our house as well as uplighters to accentuate a set of pine trees along our
driveway. All of this was with a low voltage system that merely plugs to a wall outlet in the exterior of our house with a step-down transformer. We can control the whole system manually with a switch inside the house. Josh also built into the system the option to install a remote controller or a timer-based controller, if we desired that in the future.
Earthscape also did a bunch of landscaping work in our front yard, pruning down overgrown pine trees, bushes, spacing out hasta plants that were crowding each other too much as well as planting a Japanese Maple tree. Areas of the lawn that were trodden over during the construction of the walkway were also repaired with screened loam, fertilizer and grass seed.
The end result is that our entire front yard got a very nice face lift, featuring a gorgeous new walkway and a lighting system that makes it all pop in the evening hours. We are extremely pleased with the results.
Earlier this Spring, when I turned the sprinkler system (which was already in place) on to water the lawn, I found out that one of the sprinkler heads got accidentally buried deep under the soil during the course of this work. When I brought this up with Josh, like any good businessman, he readily owned up to it and took care of it very promptly, making arrangements with the owner of the business that had installed our sprinkler system years ago.
I whole heartedly recommend Earthscape for any type of hardscaping and landscaping projects that you have in mind for your residence or business.

I cannot say enough good things about Moe and her crew. Moe was great
to work with. Her initial design made it easy to envision the finished result.
Moe was present on the day of installation and ensured that all went according to her
design.

Moe was always available to answer any questions or concerns I had,
and always kept me updated on the project so that I never was wondering
or guessing on how the progress was going. She is awesome at what she
does, and it shows in the final results.
Her crew was great also. They left the work site clean at the end of the job, and were
always friendly and courteous.
I cannot stress enough how happy I am with the final result of the yard. It was amazing to see
the concept on paper, and then to see it brought to life by Moe and her
crew. The final result is leaps and bounds better than anything I could
have envisioned before the project got underway.
Now it's time to start building up the funds so we can have Moe come back
and work on pavers for the front sidewalk and outdoor lighting!

Patio was initially being built smaller than was agreed. Issue was discussed (I called him on it) and then build as was discussed during planning. Was assured that the rock wall would be solid (I had young kids, and had their grandparents visiting frequently - I didn't want anybody falling because a rock in the rock wall gave way). Rock wall ended up being very unstable - first good rain washed out the stone dust btw/ the rocks and then it was just rocks piled together. Called company several times and got the run around. Earthscape never came back. We ended up moving (not for the patio - other reasons). Family that bought the house had the wall and patio torn out (I think - I was told this verbally). Experience made me wish that I had created a contract prior to the work being done (my bad). This work was done approx. 10 years ago - the cost estimate I've submitted is from memory and is very rough. It's also possible that Earthscape has improved in the last 10 years, but I didn't have a good experience 10 years ago.

"This was not our customer. There is another firm out of Westford operating under our name. Maybe they performed this shoddy work. Please don't tarnish our reputation with this poor review."

Rob is a perfectionist! We wanted a natural looking waterfall built into an area in our backyard where we were replacing a retaining wall. We gave Rob a general description of what we wanted and he took it from there. It looks better then we imagined. He made sure every last rock was the right size, shape and color for what he envisioned, it looks fabulous.

Disclaimer: I have no experience with Landscapers so I don't really know how to grade the price. I think it was a good price though for the work done and I'll be working with him again in the near future.
My wife and I purchased a derelict property with a large barn, in the back of which was a hill about 5' high, which created a drainage problem and was undermining the old stone foundation. Josh came recommended by a friend so we contracted with him after he came out promptly for an estimate.
Josh came with a bobcat, a couple of men, a huge dump truck and knocked the job out in a couple days. I really thought it would take heavier equipment especially to pull out the old foundation. I was impressed.
Prior to Josh coming, my wife and I had cleared probably a quarter acre of brush and cut down several (5?6?) large trees, and there was a ginormous pile of branches, brush, and yard debris; Josh's work doubled the size of it. I think it took like 6 or 8 loads with the dump truck to get it all off the property (we're surrounded on all sides by other houses). Dumping that in the town dump was about $1800 of the total cost.
Using a transit, he fixed the drainage back there by creating a swale, and this winter the water all just ran off away from the structure, so it looks like it's fixed.

Josh and his team built a beautiful walkway in the front of our home. They also built a new fire pit for our pool area, put in a granite lamp post, and built a bench for us out of some unused granite. They presented us with a plan, listened to what we wanted and re-used some of our materials and plantings to create a new front walkway and retaining wall that are visually striking and cost less than the other estimates we received. We also hired them to edge our beds and prune all of our shrubs and trees. Their pruner is a true artist and our trees and shrubs have never looked better. We highly recommend Earthscape and will use them again.

They are excellent. They're always on time and always neat. The owner of Earthscape is extremely knowledgeable about all plants in this area. Everything is timely with the billing process, and they're easy to get a hold of.

We are very dissatisfied with the outcome of this project. The hard-scape has had, in our opinion, many issues.
Response from Earthscape Landscaping Inc.
"The Member is completely misrepresenting our work and his responsibility for any issues. He initiated a lawsuit 5 years post completion. The court found no fault at all with Earthscape's work. The issues he had were due to faulty work by his builder that undermined our walls, walks, stairs and patios. The contractor backfilled the home with wood and boulders below four feet deep that settled and caused the issues. Please contact us for hundreds of satisfied customers. In February 2011 we celebrate 27 years in business. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME WE EVER WERE TAKEN TO COURT. The Member should have engaged an engineer for this large project but did not. He now is displacing the blame for the issues and the court affirmed this."

The brick walkway removal and replacement went OK, though some changes were necessary to make it look acceptable (first attempt ended up too narrow). Landscaping went alright too, though the groundcover we were sold looks pretty awful. Some plants didn't take (which were replaced) but we hired Earthscape based on the apparent knowledge of its owner, so were disappointed that the advice he gave was poor. Overall, it wasn't a bad job, just OK and, we feel, somewhat overpriced.
Response from Earthscape Landscaping Inc.
"The customer wanted the new walk in the same location as the old walk. We did it again at no charge and put in where I recommended in the first place. As for the ground cover we can not control watering and care once we leave a job. We did replace any material that died at no charge. I am rather shocked to see a mediocre post on this list."

They do a very very good job. They are reasonable. They did all of our neighbors work so we got a chance to see their work before we hired them. I would highly recommend them.
