Polite and efficient installer
Mistake ordering interior molding that delayed project completion
Inadvertent damage to interior that was not the "responsibility" of Pella that required additional work whose cost was covered by further discount by Pella.
Also, there's a "ding" on one of the inside window frames - a blemish on the finish that apparently occurred during installation.
This was not my understanding or expectation going into the project.

experience with Pella delivery was less than perfect.The door installation needed to be coordinated with the work plans of two other contractors. I placed the order weeks and weeks before the stated factory lead time.The sales person understood that installation needed to occur within a very narrow window. I was assured the door would be available and be installed on the date required. Due to a number of excuses, my door did not arrive on time and installation had to be delayed. Fortunately, my other contractors were willing to work around Pella?s delay. The sales department apologized for my inconvenience and gave me a Home Depot gift card. Product quality is A+, but in my case, Pella?s Customer Care was barely there.

To establish a context for my comparative review of Pella versus Renewal by Andersen, I need to explain that five years ago I replaced half the windows in my home (in all the bedrooms and one wall of the kitchen) , using Renewal by Andersen (RbA), because I had just moved into my 30-year-old home and realized that the windows were losing heat and costing the home in terms of energy efficiency. So I made a quick decision to use RbA without looking into any alternatives, mostly because the RbA sales rep pushed the sale and I didn't have time to research other options at that point. As a point of fact, I can say that I have had no problems with the replacement windows installed by RbA at that time, either at the time of installation or during the five years since.
Once I decided to replace the remaining older windows in the home this summer, I scheduled appointments with both Renewal by Andersen and Pella (whose windows my contractor had installed in my previous home in another state).
The Pella sales rep came to my home to explain the options for replacing the major windows in my home (picture windows in the living room and dining room, new exterior door in the bedroom, and new slider in the kitchen, plus a new casement window in the kitchen). He was courteous and non-pressuring, and answered all my questions very thoroughly, unlike the Renewal by Andersen sales rep, who was very aggressive in forcing the sale, and defensive in answering any questions that I had concerning limitations in RbA products. The RbA rep pressured me to sign on the day of the sales visit, whereas the Pella rep put me under no time pressure. Ultimately, I argued for and obtained a 2-week extension of the 3-day "review" period for the RbA contract, in order to research my options with Pella.
I then visited the Pella showroom in west Springfield -- RbA has no local showroom -- and was able to see the entire range of windows that I was considering, and to experience the operation of all the features (such as interior blinds) that I was interested in.
After my very negative experience with the Renewal by Andersen sales rep, I was very positively impressed with the Pella sales rep. I felt that he took the time to explain every detail that I was interested in, and wasn't defensive in the least when I asked him questions arising from my experience with Renewal by Andersen.
I signed a contract with Pella (and cancelled the original contract that I had been pressured into signing by RbA), because the Pella total cost was competitive with Renewal by Andersen, the Pella quality and range of options offered in windows was superior to RbA, and the service provided by the Pella sales rep was FAR superior to the RbA sales rep, who was very aggressive, who constantly pressured me, and who spent more time bad-mouthing Pella than explaining why RbA was a good product in its own right.
The Pella installation was scheduled for within a month of my signing the contract (as opposed to RbA, which scheduled the intallation for within 3 months of signing). The Pella installation started promptly on time, took half the estimated number of days (2 rather than 4 days), and was completed promptly and professionally with no problems. Any problem or question that I raised (such as observing that one portion of the new kitchen casement window frame looked slightly damaged) was immediately addressed and either fixed or replaced during the installation. Both the Pella installation supervisor and the Pella sales rep came by the house during the installation to ensure that every detail was attended to by the workers on site. All of the workers associated with the Pella installation were courteous and responsive to questions, and went "the extra mile" with additional options at no extra charge (such as reinstalling the original blinds in the new dining room picture window frame or installing an extra doorstop for the newly outward-swinging exterior door from the bedroom). They cleaned up completely after themselves each day, and left the site in pristine condition.
The new Pella windows and doors are beautiful, and have measurably improved the appearance of the rooms where they were installed.
I can review both companies now, as a result of my cumulative first-hand experience:
* RbA products (satisfactory); RbA sales rep (aggressive and pressuring);
* Pella products (beautiful and innovative); Pella sales rep (courteous, friendly and professional).
We would choose Pella over Renewal by Andersen, without a question, for any future work.
