I originally gave Jon a B for price. I thought he was a tad pricey but given what the yard looked like before he and his crew got here, what it looks like now, and the diligence they took to get it looking like it does now, it was very fairly priced.
We would absolutely recommend Signature Grounds.
I walked him around my several large beds of flowers and explained that they had overgrown their borders but that I did not want them mown. I explicitly pointed out several plants to be careful about.
I came home late from work Monday night (11:00 -- there is a reason we have not had time to mow the lawn!) and discovered that they had done the work early. I was a little displeased as I had rearranged my schedule so that I could work from home Tuesday and be present when they were doing the work for the first time, but I would have let this pass. The grass was short and they had trimmed the weeds growing along the sidewalk: so far, they had done what they had contracted to do.
HOWEVER, they had mown over three well-established plants. A sage (a foot and a half tall! It looked nothing like the grass!) I had pointed out, a gayfeather I had pointed out (in bloom), and a phlox. I hadn't bothered to point out the phlox as and quot;don't mow thisand quot; because it was BEHIND the gayfeather (which I DID point out as and quot; This is a garden plant, don't mow itand quot;), and the gayfeather was behind an obvious plant marker (made of sticks and string).
The plants they killed were gifts from a friend and cannot be replaced.
TL;DR/IN SHORT: I recommend you hire a neighbor's kid to mow your lawn. They will also mow down your prize plants, of course, but they won't charge so much to do it.
John from Signature Grounds really impressed us. We explained what we were looking for and he spent close to an hour discussing all the options of things we could do for our yard. He was courteous and professional, he answered all of our questions and took his time explaining in detail every aspect of the job. He said he would email us a quote in a couple of days and he did. The price was very reasonable. We called him back the next day and set up an appointment for the end of the week. He showed up on time and started the work. He did a beautiful job with the Spring clean up. He treated for grubs and re-seeded the grass, removed all debris, swept up all the sand left from the street sanding, and removed the old mulch. He even removed a Christmas tree that had been thrown in the bushes by the house. We had decided to lay new mulch in front of the house and around some trees, but left the back yard for me and my husband to experiment with at a later time. John took the time to show us the how to and what not to do and offered to deliver the mulch to us when we were ready to take on the project. When he was finished, John took the time to walk around the house with us to make sure the job was done to our satisfaction. We were more than pleased. Signature Grounds did a wonderful job! I was very impressed from the initial consultation all the way through to the completed job. I would refer Signature Grounds to my friends and family with confidence. We are having him continue to help us through the summer with the additional lawn and yard care and mowing. Great company, great job.
