I really liked the owner, and I have nothing bad to say about him and his crew other than a price change attempt at the conclusion of the project. They were nice, professional, and they did a great job and offered good work. They were also clean. Which is always appreciated as they were in every corner of the house. They offered a price that was extremely competitive, and so much so that I had a detailed discussion 3 separate times to ensure it was correct. It was better than my GC’s sub could offer, and he suggested we check on price carefully and what was being done. We did this very carefully – on three separate occasions over the phone, and in person twice (as well as via email). I don’t want to rake them over the coals as I really liked them, but when the job was done, he said he would send us another proposal for the “final bill” which my wife said wasn’t needed, as we knew the right amount. She had the check in hand. He said no that isn’t the entire amount due. We only paid payment 1 (and not the second, so we owed the 2nd and 3rd final payment. She started writing the check for 2nd and 3rd and last payments. That was TOTALLY my error and not my wife’s error, but the total amount was not vague, and it was clear, and it was contractually, electronically and verbally made clear on multiple (3) occasions. I sense he was super busy, and perhaps he underestimated the effort (also that it would take 3-5 days - it took 2+ weeks) and when he was ready to agree to the work being scheduled, he didn’t check his figures, but this was his quote, and we asked about price repeatedly and he confirmed it was correct. We accepted his price and went with him as it as one of the driving reasons to use them (and also a great Angie’s review) as the entire project was quite costly and we were controlling costs as much as possible. We agreed to disagree respectfully, and I sent him the final check and and a letter, as well as a copy of the contract and that this was our final payment as agreed. I never heard back from him again. I will say I don’t think he tried to deceive us, but in his line of work, you can’t say oops I need 60% more than we agreed on. Sorry - misunderstanding?? Worse - and not even a word along the 2-3 week effort? Not OK. Odd as it sounds – I still could recommend him, but you BETTER be really clear about what you want and clarify the price. I really like the guy and his team, but I was really bummed out that we had to end it that way as we both had a bad taste in our mouths, but what is right is right. He and he team were good – but I can only say that a business owner must be more careful with the numbers/proposals as they matter. Again, I can only commiserate, but I can’t just pay 50% more when you provided a fixed quote and the error was clearly yours and I gave you every opportunity to check your proposal details.
