Ken gave the initial inspection, was surly but pleasant enough and actually sprayed a hornets nest at no extra charge and gave useful money saving advice for how to battle termites in the future instead of purchasing an expensive contract right now.
The subsequent visits and communication was not as smooth.
Ken placed traps (caught one mouse) and in the next visit placed poison traps. His approach is that if we get mice (he doesn't check for entry points in your house, he just suggests ways for you to do so) then they'll die somewhere...
The contract vaguely words that we are due additional and quot;retreatmentsand quot; for one year.
I called Ken 1 month later because I thought he had verbally agreed to check the poison traps at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months to see if we had any and quot;nibblesand quot; or mouse activity.
He was rude and argumentative that we never agreed to this (which in of itself would have been sufficient). But he began raising his voice and saying and quot;I've been doing this 41 yearsand quot; and and quot; Are we clear??and quot; . I said I must have misunderstood and I would check the contract.
When my wife called back later to clarify the contract, he would only say that he had already explained everything to the husband. She asked how it would cost if he DID come back to check the traps. He gave his price then accused my wife of constantly interrupting him and yelling to never call him again.
Not sure if Ken treats all of his customers this way or if he was having a bad day, but we won't be calling him again.
He had about 10 houses that day but he said he would fit me in. He did.
There was some miscommunication with the real estate agent and she was 30 minutes late to let us into the house. Although it would have been easy for Ken to leave, and I wouldn't have blamed him, he stayed and used the time to walk around the property with me and point out areas that could be of concern.
He was very knowledgeable and very candid. I appreciated his tell it like it is demeanor and attitude. He pointed out many items I wouldn't have noticed. He did clear the house and found ants versus termites which was great news. We will have Ken back after we close to treat for carpenter ants.
