Interlocking Pavers for Patios, Walks & Steps Installation
$17,000
We hired Mass Stone to replace our crumbling front walkway and cracked entryway stairs and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Renato was great to work with to help better design our walkway and stairs and the crew was phenomenal. You can see that Mass Stone takes a lot of pride in their work and want to ensure their customers are happy. If you have masonry work you want to get done, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t get Renato out to look at the job!

We hired Masstone to add stone Veneer and granite to our two sets of outside steps. The workmanship was the best. Renato and Nilto know their stuff! The same two workers showed up on time and worked straight through the three days they were here, They also refurbished our paved walkway which was done by another contractor a few years back. You can stop here for your search.....these guys are great!

Mass Stone did a beautiful job. Master craftsmen. Meticulous, cleaned up afterward. Note: this may not surprise anyone else but you have to hire a “railing guy”, unless you can reuse the railing.

I hired them to build stone steps and a paver walkway. Unfortunately I had difficulty getting them to understand exactly what I wanted the finished result to look like. They will blame this on me (and they did, at the end of the job), but still I'm frustrated that the result did not come out the way that I THOUGHT that I had explained it to them. This was partly due to communication issues. The bosses were not on site during most of the project and it was difficult to communicate with the workers. They also added additional costs at the end which I did not expect, saying that the proposal was made with various assumptions (such as a limited number of steps) which they did NOT mention up front in the contract. Furthermore, they made a complete mess of my lawn and driveway and did a poor job of cleaning up after the job. After I complained about that, they came back to clean up, but spent barely 15 minutes doing a half-hearted job of it. Even after they "cleaned up", I had to spend many days doing the cleanup myself picking up scattered stone chips from rock cutting, gravel, sand, rocks, bits of concrete, etc. all over the place, which is ugly, difficult to get up off the lawn, and poses a risk of flying debris when mowing the lawn. Also, large areas of damaged lawn (killed grass due to being buried under piles of construction material for a long time), as well as torn up turf from driving and turning the excavator across the lawn (that was 20-30 feet away from where the work was taking place; I don't know why they had to drive the tractor way over there). If you go into your project with an expectation that there will be a significant amount of additional time and expense required (for top soil, grass seed, etc) after the job is "done", then maybe the need for this extra work won't bother you. But just be prepared for it. The completed steps and walk look fine (although as mentioned, not exactly what I envisioned), so just for the aesthetic appearance of finished work, they do a good job. They just fell short of my expectations though for all the reasons described above.

Clear details not given prior to completion of project. Customer is not the expert. The company is. So we would have believed that all options would have been discussed. Once example is while discussing project, it was stated that customer has bad knees and stuggles on stairs. Then when project is on its way to completion, it turns out there is one less stair than before project. Company stated in email that we would have put another step had you asked. Pitiful. Also, the surrounding landscaping was left messy with parts destroyed. We will state also though that the work was very nice. Just be careful to understand exactly what you are getting. Sincerely

MassStone did a beautiful job building a new paver walkway from the driveway to the side door. I needed a wheelchair accessible curb cut, and Mass Stone took the time to explore several alternative designs with me. The work crew knew their jobs, and worked through bad weather to get the job done. The resulting walkway is beautiful....passers by have stopped to compliment it several times. I would recommend Mass Stone wholeheartedly to anyone looking to get a stone pathway!

I have a gorgeous patio that looks fabulous...as long as it is not raining. Nilto Goncalves, the son of the owner, came out and gave me a fair estimate and an agreeable install start time. I emphasized that the size of the yard (small) and the grade (sloping slightly toward house) and existing walkway and concrete slab would make setting the grade challenging. Based on their stellar reviews on Home Advisor, I hired them. On the day of the install, Renato Goncalves, the owner, came out on site. I emphasized that getting the grade right was going to be tricky. He stated that he was installing a patio and "didn't want me to end up with a swimming pool". We even eliminated part of the project when Renato told me that if we added that section, we would have to install a French drain. I agreed to just keep the patio and skip the addition along the existing slab. Nothing further was discussed about adding additional drainage just pitching the patio to keep water away from the house. As the guys worked, I expressed concern about where the water would end up. But they seemed to know what they were doing. I expressed this concern in an email to Renato as the work was underway, but deferred to their experience and his assurance that I would not end up with a swimming pool. Guess what? I ended up with a swimming pool. The water sheets off the patio and ends up pooling against the stairs and house. High tide is 3-4 inches which has to be broomed away to get it dry. When I called Renato about this problem, his only solution was to install a dry well. He agreed to do it "at cost" but it was still going to cost $800+ to get it installed - and I would end up with the very thing I was trying to avoid when I agreed to eliminate part of the job. The landscaper I hired separately to complete the grading and sodding told me that where Renato wanted to install the drywell would not take care of the bulk of the runoff - I would still have the pool. He showed me exactly where the water was pitching from and worked with me on swaling and pitching the yard to slough water away - work that we were not planning on doing but now had no choice. Pros: Great looking patio that has gotten compliments (in dry weather). Nice crew of hard working guys. Cons: I had to hire a landscaper to come in and completely regrade the yard and - ultimately add a drainage swale because the patio is just plain pitched wrong. Follow up calls with Renato were along the lines of "I told you you were going to have to install drainage." Um...no...or I would have had that quoted as part of the job and not had you come back and dig up the yard a second time. Also, the two other quotes I got never mentioned having to add a dry well for drainage. Bottom line: didn't want a swimming pool, ended up with a swimming pool, had to spend $$$ to try and make the swimming pool go away - and I am still not sure we have eradicated the problem. If the patio had been pitched the

Early on he had excellent service, but he didn't install the fence proper and he wont come back to fix it. (will change the review if he fixes it)
Response from Masstone Landscape Construction, Inc.
"We did a very big project for him, walls, big patio, walkway, driveway with interlock paver, new sod and a lot of vinyl fence with two gates, one of the gates is very wide (6feet) after some time this gates had a little settlement, when he call me to fix we were very busy, I asked him to wait a little big until we finish some jobs because was not an emergence, when we finished the weather was not good to proceed the repair, I said for him as soon the weather get better and defrost I'll send some body to fix the gate, really I can't understand why he did this after we made a wonderful job in his house."

I received quotes from several landscaper/hardscapers for my house project that involved installation of pavers for the driveway and walkway. Additionally, I wanted to install a retaining wall with steps leading from my wallkway to the driveway, and installation of new sod. I ended up going with Masstone, because the price was on par. Also Renato was very professional and all the great reviews he received as well as detailed proposal. He walked me through my options as well as provided me some ideas, which helped me go back and draft my landscape design, which was quite intricate. Overall, Masstone did a fantastic job, and had everyone in the neighborhood raving about how fantastic the project turned out. His crew showed up everyday and on-time. They were also polite, kept a clean work area at the end of the day, skillful and detail orientated. I had quickly made a change to the walkway, and they reacted quickly to give me exactly what I wanted without any complaints. I look forward to doing other projects with Masstone in the future, as well as referring them to my family and friends. The reviews posted here are a reflection of the quality of work they provide, which are 5 star ratings. Thank you Renato and Crew for a job well done!!!!!

Mass Stone was just fantastic. They stepped in when another company I was working with wasn't working out. We wanted to expand our existing patio and were able to get in within just a few days - which was great considering we were already delayed working with the other company. The work they did was beautiful and when I wasn't sure what to do, they had a million options and worked with me to make it just right. The team was polite and careful and so helpful. They finished the job in 2 days and we couldn't be happier. Would definitely recommend.

Response from Masstone Landscape Construction, Inc.
"I would like to know what is this customer, he did not put his name, because the last job that we did in Woburn was in November 2015 and the customer loved the job and after some time he contact us to do another job for them, based on that I believe that there is an error in this review, please compare with others reviews. Thanks."

I needed to replace a long paved walkway with steps. I obtained quotes from three vendors. . I chose Mass Stone because of Renato's thoughtfulness in trying to solve my problems with the steps, his timely response and his clear, comprehensive project quote Previous installations hadn't lasted well and were awkward to climb. He showed me just why they hadn't lasted and what he would do differently. He also took careful measurements and spent more than an hour to create a whole new 'stepping plan' that would make the steps more comfortable to maneuver. The other vendors just measured length and width and offered no suggestions or changes in anything except the stone to be used. Mass Stone gave a warranty of 10 years and lifetime on materials. The other two vendors offered a warranty only after being asked and one for for 3 years and the other for 5. Mass Stone also offered more color choices. The project went wonderfully. I was able to be scheduled almost right away. The crew put in long, hard days and did a superb job. The job took 7.5 days to complete because of the steep grade and length of the walkway. The worked from 7 am to 6 pm, weather permitting and even on Saturday. They took pride in their work and very much wanted to be sure I was happy with it. When I had questions or concerns, Renato promptly clarified. Moving large blocks of granite up the steep slope to my house was hard on the crew and my garden. Once the stone work was done they also spread good loam on my garden and crushed stone on my drive - which was not expected. They left my drive and garden in better shape than when they had arrived. I highly recommend Mass Stone.
