Madrona Brothers Inc Landscape & Construction

We highly recommend Madrona Bros. and have worked with them since an initial landscaping design/construction project at our current home back in 2016. From the first contact and continued engagement with Marcelo and his team, we have always felt that they provide proactive communication, transparent assessments/estimates, timely service and proactive follow up. We have not only been impressed by the consistent quality of work performed, but with their customer service over the years. They actively listen to our requests, have been flexible to address our needs, and quick to remedy if any issues arise. They want to get it right just as much as we do. From the build of a decorative stone retaining wall and cobble bed boarders, to design and planning of multiple beds, to weekly maintenance and spring/fall cleanups, and even to sub-contracting of work as needed, we have always been happy with what we get over the years Marcelo and team. We are sticklers about how our landscape looks and so are our partners at Madrona Bros. We are thankful for finding Marcelo, Vincent, Tom and the rest of the team there.

I hired Madrona in spring of 2021 to install a new paver patio around my pool. While the patio project came out decent (and it should when you spend the cost of a brand new car), they destroyed my yard in the process. Having really nice, manicured grass and landscaping before the project started, I knew my yard would get disturbed by installing the new pool deck, so I made sure to build into the contract scope that allowed Madrona to repair all of the grass to its prior state when the project was done - something the owner, Vicente, agreed to. A year later, Vicente refuses to honor the agreement in the contract and repair my terribly damaged yard that I’ve had to spend thousands of dollars in materials and my time trying to fix to date. When the project was wrapping up, several days after promised, the Madrona crew was rushing to get to their next job. What resulted was quickly throwing down some unscreened loam, cheap grass seed and no fertilizer. The soil was lumpy and filled with huge rocks which meant the grass didn’t grow properly. It wasn’t long before I realized just how dangerous the unscreened loam they used was - it was filled with glass, plastic, and other trash - a major safety concern in a yard where young children are barefoot and pets play. Throughout the project, I found Madrona’s communication to be lacking. I was often left in the dark with regards to important details, or given updates with no advanced notice. The excavation crew was careless, causing a sizable rip in my pool liner when excavating the old concrete patio - something I had to pay out of pocket to repair with the pool company. Maybe the most alarming issue with the whole project is that the owner didn’t take measurements before ordering pavers, and shockingly, they ran out of pavers before they completed the deck. Sort of wreckless to not spend 10 minutes up front to take measurements. There are plenty of reputable hardscape companies out there. Do yourself favor and think long & hard before hiring Madrona Bros for your project.

From responsiveness to knowledge to punctuality to price to the completed work, everything was spot on.

Madrona has done a very nice job snowplowing for our condo association. I was impressed with their "can do" attitude and responsiveness. They seem to go the extra mile and make sure the job is done right. They come back after the storm and make sure the parking places are cleared and they also shovel nicely by hand. I have been impressed with their service.

In August 2017, I was traveling with my family and had to extend my trip because of a family emergency. So we emailed Vincent and asked him if he could "cut the grass" since I would be gone for longer than expected. He sent us a bill for $800 saying that he had done the "full cleanup". I felt like he was being dishonest and taking advantage of our family emergency. At the very least this was terrible communication. We ended our relationship with him after that.

They did an excellent job. My house looks beautiful. Will hire again.

I am very satisfied with the sprinkler system and all the work done. They've been very responsive to any concern I've had. They came back once to adjust the coverage of sprinklers. And once to reseed a small portion of yard that did not come in as well as it should have. A job well done!

Madrona has done a great job at maintaining my lawn.

We could not be happier. The final product is absolutely beautiful. The workers were professional, punctual, talented, and very pleasant to deal with.

Really nice work at a reasonable price. Communication was a little difficult as I tried to firm up a date, even a week in advance. Weather was definitely a factor.

At first it went fine. Vincent was very professional when he came by to look at our lawn and gave us a quote promptly. We asked to start with mowing and a yard clean up. It was never communicated how frequently the mowing would occur, so when they mowed twice in the first 3 weeks of our service engagement I emailed Vincent and ask to move to just monthly mowings. We never heard back about it. We received our first invoice for the 2 mowings and the yard cleanup, which was paid (with a tip). Fast forward to this morning (6/28) and I receive an invoice for 4 mowings, one a week, for the month of June. When I asked Vincent why he wasn't mowing monthly, he said they don't do monthly mowings, only weekly or every other week. When I asked why he had ignored my previous email or why he switched to weekly mowings, he wrote "Let’s put it this way, if you want us to cut your lawn every other week, we will be happy to do, if not we won’t be able to help you." No apology for ignoring my email about mowing frequency, no apology for the miscommunication. It's not like we talked on the phone and one of us misspoke - there's an actual email chain that shows what I asked for and it was ignored. That's a dishonest way to run a business and we'll be finding someone else to work with moving forward.

First, this review is very belated. We loved the service and final product, but haven't gotten around to adding this for a year! We had a good idea of what we wanted. Marcello patiently worked with us to make all the final choices that would really make us happy, for design and materials. The crew was all prompt, courteous, professional and did top notch work. Marcello was on site every day--even spending half a day on the jackhammer himself! Price was very competitive with other quotes--I considered them to be the cheapest of reputable services, but it is hard to compare apples to apples when not identical plans are quoted. It's a midsize, family firm, so you're paying for the quality personal service, not overhead and advertising. We've done a lot of work on our house, but the paver patios by Madrona Bros are definitely what has been the biggest improvement that we love the most.

Went well, they came 3 times to do all items. Did everything as agreed. The front lawn looks very good now.

In one word: EXCELLENT. They worked morning til late in the day for three days and got all of this work done. Workers are professional, courteous, and really take pride in their work. They cleaned up beautifully and worked neatly at all times. Marcello's quote was prompt- his communication always thorough, helpful and professional. In regard to the stairwell work- it rained last night and we had no water in our basement. The new "made of large rocks" stairs are gorgeous. It has been a long time since I have had such a positive experience with any company doing work for us. It is a completely buttoned up company from the professional impression of Marcello to the clean trucks to the professional workers to the beautiful results. It is a pleasure to see a small ( or any size ) business like this. A model for others.

I sent an email to Madrona Bros through Angie's List, and within a couple of days, I got a response. There was snow on the patio at the time (mid-February), but we set a date to get an estimate. On the date of the estimate, Marcelo Madrona (one of the owners) came well-prepared, with a book of options for patio designs. He listened to my concerns about the patio (wanting to extend it to support my rain barrel platform and fix the uneven pavers), took up a couple of pavers near the house to determine that the original base was just sand, and promised me an estimate within a few days. The estimate was very detailed, specifying the types of materials that would be used (concrete, hard pack, sand, polymeric sand) and depths of each material. After the initial meeting, I asked Marcelo to include an estimate for connecting the downspout to another on the house (which goes to a drywell on the property). He promptly adjusted the estimate, including in the proposal all of the details that we asked for (having the pavers relaid in the same pattern (we had asked for that in writing since when we had our front walk redone some years earlier, that contractor had changed the design without asking--we liked the original design better than the one we got)). We tentatively scheduled the work for 3 weeks, but weather intervened (more snow!), and he was able to get to the work on April 10. The team of employees that worked on my patio were the best! They were polite, didn't disrupt the neighborhood with yelling and/or loud music (something I've experienced with other contractors), worked diligently, cleaned up after the end of each day, and made my back yard look nicer than when they first came. From beginning to end, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor. They spent half a day removing the existing pavers and stacking them. The second day was spent removing the sandy base and putting in the first layers of hard pack. They reset the granite step in 15 inches of concrete so that it has a stable base and will not warp the patio. The third day (the hottest day of the year so far) was spent in extending the drainpipe underground to meet another downspout on the house, starting to build up the base and compacting it soundly. The fourth day was cooler and rainy. On this day, they relaid the pavers and reassembled the fence. On the final day, they compacted polymeric sand into the joints to make sure that they got a good seal and spread topsoil and grass seed to repair the lawn damage that the heavy equipment caused.

Madrona Brothers was once again on-time and within budget, doing a great job.

Marcelo was not only professional and honest, but passionate about his job. He stood by his word and did not give up on us until we had beautiful grass. We were lucky to find him.

Working with Marcelo and team was excellent throughout the process. When working through the initial estimate Marcelo was very helpful in describing the options I had for replacing my front walkway and back patio. The Madrona Brothers' estimate was competitive with other estimates I received. Marcelo was on site every morning to walk through the project with me and answer any questions I may have had. His team also dug a trench and worked with the plumbers to run a gas line for the fire pit which provided some unanticipated challenges which they were able to work through. Marcelo's team took care of every aspect of the job from raising some existing steps, leveling an existing kitchen set, redoing some heads on the sprinkler system, and reconnecting downspouts. Marcelo was also on site to provide quality control and identified that some of the wall caps were not up to standard and requested the supplier replace them. Marcelo also traveled to a fireplace store 45 minutes away to purchase additional hardware needed for the fireplace burner. They oversaw every aspect of the job and did so without consistently adding small charges along the way if items which required additional labor or materials cropped up. The finished product is nothing short of outstanding and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

The crew finished the job in about 4 days. They were very professional, worked incredibly hard, paid close attention to detail, and did an amazing job! I received quotes from several companies, and they were by far the cheapest in price, but not the cheapest in quality. I highly recommend them.

Marcelo was great....from the moment we called him for an appraisal, to the samples he provided beforehand, to the installation! His team was in and out in a matter of 2 weeks! Very professional and does incredible work! He constantly kept us updated on the progress, so we knew when the project would be complete! I am so glad I checked Angie's list before deciding on a landscape team because that is how I found Marcelo!! Thank you Marcelo and your team for doing a great job! We really appreciate it!! I recommend to anyone reading this to hire Marcelo and his team..... You won't be disappointed!!

This was my 1st interaction with Vincent and his company. Our front lawn had become literally a "jungle" and we were ready to do something quickly. I called multiple companies to get estimates and the only place that call back within 24 hours was Madrona Landscapers. Vincent (owner) was able to come and do the estimate within a day of my phone call. He came on time, gave me time to explain what I wanted done and if we chose to go with his company he explained that work was being schedule two weeks out. The meeting did not take more than 15 minutes and afterwards I got my very straight forward estimate via email detailing exactly what would be done and each component had a sub price. I told him that we wanted to hire him, I mail a check for a deposit and they came two weeks after that; he even email me about my color preference for the mulch. His crew work tirelessly to remove vines that had take over some of the shrubs. They spend a day just getting everything ready for the mulch and had to return the next day to complete the process. From beginning to end the process was effortless. I though the price was extremely competitive and in addition I was able to use a coupon from Angie's for 10%. I really wished that every other home project was this easy. Our front looks great and  we are very pleased.

We would absolutely use this company again as it is not often that you can find great service, punctuality and quality of work all in one company!
