I went to the phone book to find a service tech to come to the house. David showed up and after the initial hour at 99 dollars, he wanted to take the machine back to the shop. He advised me that if the computer could not be restored, I should scrap the machine, because it was four years old and I could buy a new one for $400.00. Giving me his cell phone number, I called David, but I never heard from him again. I was now dealing with the owner, Mike, who said my computer was fixed and he would like to drop it off. Continuing.... Mike dropped off the computer after telling me the operating system was reloaded. I plugged the computer in, and Mike sat on the couch. The same problem re appeared within seconds. He said that I should have gotten the passwords for the unit. I said, you should have called me. I noticed that the wireless antenna had been broken. Mike wanted to take the machine back to the office again and asked for the passwords. I told him that since the machine was four years old, I did not want to spend a lot of money on it. For four hundred you can buy a brand new machine. On his way out the door, I noticed he had my Nike glasses in his hand and said dude those are my glasses. His response was Oh that's right, I am wearing mine. Yeah right. Mike said he would not charge me any more money and a few days later he called me saying the machine was ready and he would like to drop it off. We set up an appointment for 5:30, unfortunately there was a traffic issue and knew that I would be late, so I called his office to tell him I was running late and the office girls assured me she would relay the message. Upon arriving home, my wife tells me that Mike was here and he dropped off the computer. He got her to write a check for $325.00 and I flipped. So much for honesty. I emailed Mike and he said he wanted to make sure that I was satisfied, and he would call me on Monday the 11th of May. He never called. Do not use Fast Teks. They are a franchised business and the corporation is only concerned about selling franchises. Keep an eye on Mike too, he might walk off with your eye glasses.
Description of Work: My computer crashed and I called Fast Teks to come to my home and diagnose the problem.

Response from Fast-Teks On-Site Computer Services
On May 4th, the member called Fast-teks for service. He was advised of, and accepted, the hourly rate of $99. We dispatched a technician who arrived within a three-hour window. When the technician arrived he was unable to diagnose the problem, and as is standard procedure, he offered to bring the computer back to our shop to have it escalated to a more senior technician. The member agreed to let us remove the PC and was not charged for the time or travel fee for this initial call. The senior technician was able to repair the problem in Windows, remove all conflicting software, and install new anti-virus software. The technician also recommended that the member show more discretion on what internet sites and downloads he performed on the computer to prevent similar problems in the future, as his computer was most certainly infected in this manner. Upon returning with the computer, the problem did indeed seem to reoccur. This time however, the member informed us that he had been using an external hard drive. In fact, the Fast-tek technician had told me to inform him that the problem may be associated with an X-drive he had seen when working on it which would indicate an external device. I brought the machine back once again, and sure enough the technician was able to isolate the new problem and fix it. I waived our standard trip fees for this call or any after-hour rates, even though I made arrangements for the technician to work after-hours so we could resolve the problem and return the computer the following day. The next day I returned the computer, completely repaired. The member was not there at the agreed upon time, but his wife happily paid us for the work Bottom line: The member was advised of our pricing when he booked and accepted the call. The computer was completely fixed, a point he conveniently left out of his report. I waived the initial service call fee, all trip fees, and all after-hour rates in good faith. Upon return of the computer we received a signed invoice which clearly states, “By signing this invoice, customer agrees that s(he) is satisfied with all services provided”. Now regarding the glasses, it is simply laughable to imply I was trying to steal his glasses – although it probably well demonstrates some level of paranoia on the member’s part. Anybody who has misplaced their glasses only to discover they are wearing them – most eyeglass wearers I would expect – could attest to that.
