"On May 4th, the member called Fast-teks for service. He was advised of, and accepted, the hourly rate of $99. We dispatched a technician who arrived within a three-hour window. When the technician arrived he was unable to diagnose the problem, and as is standard procedure, he offered to bring the computer back to our shop to have it escalated to a more senior technician. The member agreed to let us remove the PC and was not charged for the time or travel fee for this initial call. The senior technician was able to repair the problem in Windows, remove all conflicting software, and install new anti-virus software. The technician also recommended that the member show more discretion on what internet sites and downloads he performed on the computer to prevent similar problems in the future, as his computer was most certainly infected in this manner. Upon returning with the computer, the problem did indeed seem to reoccur. This time however, the member informed us that he had been using an external hard drive. In fact, the Fast-tek technician had told me to inform him that the problem may be associated with an X-drive he had seen when working on it which would indicate an external device. I brought the machine back once again, and sure enough the technician was able to isolate the new problem and fix it. I waived our standard trip fees for this call or any after-hour rates, even though I made arrangements for the technician to work after-hours so we could resolve the problem and return the computer the following day. The next day I returned the computer, completely repaired. The member was not there at the agreed upon time, but his wife happily paid us for the work Bottom line: The member was advised of our pricing when he booked and accepted the call. The computer was completely fixed, a point he conveniently left out of his report. I waived the initial service call fee, all trip fees, and all after-hour rates in good faith. Upon return of the computer we received a signed invoice which clearly states, “By signing this invoice, customer agrees that s(he) is satisfied with all services provided”. Now regarding the glasses, it is simply laughable to imply I was trying to steal his glasses – although it probably well demonstrates some level of paranoia on the member’s part. Anybody who has misplaced their glasses only to discover they are wearing them – most eyeglass wearers I would expect – could attest to that."
