We were planning a major kitchen remodel. We went back to the studs and completely gutted the room. We had new electrical, new insulation, new sheet rock, new everything. I wanted to keep the work local and so visited Earth First. Of course I read up on flooring first before contacting them. I explained that our house is well over 100 years old and there was slope to the floor. I asked him to come to the house after we'd stripped out all the sub flooring so he could see the actual work surface. I was very concerned about roll in the floor in one location and explained that I thought there was too much roll for the floor to work well. The owner said that they would put in a layer of plywood to make up the gap. I didn't think this would take care of it, but they're the experts... I went ahead and decided to go with the "nice local company". We paid them in advance since we were dealing with so many contractors. When the time came for me to call them about installing the floor we called and didn't have out called returned for over a week. When they finally came and installed the floor their installer didn't put the plywood shim down and now you can feel the floor flex every time one walks in that area. It's annoying shoddy work. Since things were happening fast the unresponsive Earth First didn't do anything before the trim went in and was painted. Now, I am stuck with their crappy work unless I want to remove all the trim and fix it myself. Aside from living with the crappy flexy floor, the only part of the kitchen that didn't come out great, I have to see Earth First every time I am in Florence and think of how I managed to get involved with them. I guess I was taken in by their local/crunchy image. Don't pay upfront and be very careful with them if you do decide to go with them. I never write negative reviews, because in the Valley I have had great luck with people. Out painters, wallpapers, electricians, sheet rockers etc all did great jobs! Even the demo crew was awesome. Earth First is an exception.
