I signed a contract on 5-20-14 with the company vice-president and son of the founder and president of the company.
I was quite adamant on having door and window flashing installed. I was informed that he did it on all of his jobs. When the flashing was not used I questioned him on it and he said my job took too much time and he was losing money. The job took 8 working days. He was not here for the first 2 days and when he took measurements on the job, he took the wrong measurement on the 3 sliding doors so it took longer to modify the openings to compensate for his mistake. He also was on the job site about 6 ½ hours a day.
He used my tools without my permission i.e. compressor, levels, sledge hammer, brooms and dust pans.
2 of 3 sliding doors have leaked water, all 3 leak air, and a 36? entryway door has leaked water. In addition to that, 4 casement windows bind when the weather is hot. After 2 months of calls he returned only after I wrote a letter to the president. He returned on 9-30-15 but it was fall, and the windows bind in the heat of the summer.
I texted him on 10-25-14 and on 3-30-15 informing him the doors leaked water. I then started to be concerned that the expiration date of the warrantee was drawing near. On 5-8-15 I texted him with my warranty concerns and he said he would take care of the problems, regardless of the date. However, once the warranty expired, he never returned any more phone calls or texts. I have 16 texts that pertain to my problems and one specifically addresses the warranty.
Also, some of the molding is noticeably uneven and some of it does not line up properly.
He also stated he cleaned up at the end of the day. This could not have been more untrue. I had piles of demolition material in my yard, leaned against my house and collected on my deck. It was not picked up until the last 2 days on the job. Cigarette butts were just tossed to the ground. Repeated requests to dispose of them properly fell on deaf ears.
Final interior clean-up was to be done by the company. I did it myself. It took me a full day to dust, vacuum and wash 8 days worth of dust, sawdust, nails and screws.
At the end of the job he requested an additional $700 for cost over-runs. He didn?t expect me to ask to see receipts for the extra materials. Upon review $400 was my responsibility. The extra $300 was for other projects ? not my project.
Any left-over materials he took home if he had a use for it. If he had no use for it he either put it in my basement or threw it away.
On 2 occasions I tried to reach out to the president of the company, once by mail and once by phone. He too, did not return my call. If he contacted me like I asked and let me air my complaints to him, I probably would not be writing this review.
Responsiveness Grade before payment = A, after payment = F.
I was very pleased with the work and received a lot of compliments from neighbors. Especially enjoyed working with Larry and Eric.
I wouldn't hesitate to hire The Charest Co. again.

I hired Eric and he and the crew were able to start within two weeks. During the process he kept me informed, even sending me a text message with a picture when the front door was installed. That was a great touch and one that I appreciated. Eric's attention to detail are incredible, you would have thought it was his house he was working on.
After the front door was installed I called him and asked him to install two more doors. They were almost done with the job and Eric said no problem; he just took care of it.
unique system of wrapping the windows to prevent any leaking, and the trim options. At no time did we feel rushed. He gave us unlimited time and answered our questions. We explained that we had just started to investigate doing the siding and we were waiting for estimates and visits by some other possible companies. When he left after that visit, he asked us to call anytime that we had more questions.
We called several more times as we narrowed our search and Eric responded quickly both in terms of calling us back and making a day and time to come back each time. He provided us with an estimate and went over all the different parts of the contract, answering all our questions effectively. We felt that Eric would do a very good job and we trusted him so we gave him the job. We picked the color siding and trim that we wanted. About a week later, we once again called to see the possible choices again since we were not 100% sure that we picked the right color. Eric always responded and came back with the samples to let us look as much as we needed to. We never had the feeling that we bothered him as we were unsure about whether or not we made the right color choice. We ended up with the color we had chosen weeks before and were very impressed that Eric seemed very understanding of our being unsure. He wanted us to be happy and gave us the time we needed to feel more secure that we had picked the right color.
We were in no rush to start the job. We just did not want to get into winter and we talked about the summer. Eric put us on the schedule for mid-August and said he would call a few days before so that we know the start date and have time to take things off the walls and the shelves so that nothing would be damaged during the banging. He called in late July to say that he finished a job ahead of time and he had a very big job next but if we were OK with it, he would like to do our house before getting involved with this very large house. He knew that we had a trip planned in late September and we did want the job to be done while we were away since we have learned that there always questions as the job progresses. Late July was fine with us. Eric came with his crew. He estimated that the job would last about 3 weeks. His crew are very nice and very competent people. They came right on time and several stayed fairly late in the day. For such a noisy job as putting up vinyl siding, they were so easy to work with and have around so that things were easier than we thought. Yes, it was noisy and they started at 7:00 AM but that is the nature of the job. They actually finished the job in 2 1/2 weeks.
The windows were easily installed that we had ordered. One storm door had not arrived yet but as soon as it did, Eric came back to install it. And some of the new outside lights had not arrived before the siding job was done, but Eric came back to install them once we picked them up.
There is no question that we would use them again and recommend them highly to anyone. The only reason we did not give an A for price is that Eric's price was higher than some of our other estimates but we felt it was worth while using Eric because the house would look beautiful. Also Eric told us to wait until the front was done to see if we wanted new shutters (we had always had shutters). The trim work was so beautiful. we felt we did not need shutters anymore and so saved some money there.
Everything that was done was done with true craftmanship. We had verticle boards around our garage door with horizontal siding for the rest of the house. We told Eric that we liked the look so he did the vinyl siding the same way. But he was so creative in how he did it, we are absolutely thrilled. Anyone who sees our house cannot believe it is the same house.
This was a very major project for us and significant expense. We were very happy with the way the project came out. (We can not share web links - but we did document the work on the complete project on a Googe+ page - search for "our old house" )
