JIFFY LUBE

I am bad about making an appointment to have my oil changed so I sometimes end up at Jiffy Lube. No appointment is needed and the service usually takes only a short time so they get an A grade for punctuality.
There are a couple of things I really dislike about their service: Upselling and poor training of techs.
At Jiffy Lube they invariably try to upsell additional services. If they aren't busy they take apart the air cleaner and cabin air filter, if they find the slightest dirt they they to sell a new one. Filters are supposed to collect some dirt and the correct test is to hold a work light behind the filter to see how much light is obscured by the dirt. they never do this. On one of my cars the filter housing is difficult to reassemble and I have found it loose after service allowing unfiltered air to reach the engine.
Another time at the East Longmeadow store the tech said they couldn't change my oil because they couldn't remove the oil drain plug from my older American pickup. When I asked to see what the problem was, I found they were using a metric wrench that was close but not exactly the same size as the standard fractional size the old vehicle required.
At the Hadley store I watched a tech pour synthetic Delvac oil into a woman's mini cooper. Delvac is oil for diesel engines and MINIs don't have dIesels. I pointed this out to the owner who asked the tech about it. She was assured it is ok for gas engines. That's only sort of true. Mobil makes Full Synthetic for gas engines and that's what she was paying extra for. Delvac is formulated to be best for diesels.
Jiffy lube puts a next oil change due milage and date on a window sticker to remind you when to come back. This never agrees with the manufacturer's recommendations it is always shorter. Ask them about it and they will claim you should follow and quot;the severe serviceand quot; schedule. Most newer cars have reminder lights that take into account such things as length of trips and engine temps.
I give them a C grade because you'll find the same practices in other service chains.

They are very friendly and inviting. They offer a nice environment and coffee while you wait. They checked my battery, said it looks like, but even advised me that it was okay to get a second opinion. They were not pushy at all.

Very smoothly, as always. I have used this Jiffy Lube for many years, and all our family's cars exceed 250,000 miles. I keep an eye out for when there is a minimal wait, and have often found that late afternoon Fridays I can drive right into the bay and be our in fifteen or twenty minutes. While they always bring your attention to "scheduled services"" and the condition of your air filter, etc., they never push anything. Currently you can sign up to get every third oil servicing at 1/2 price.

The staff is prompt and courteous and never tries pushing extras. You can easily see their bays from Memorial Ave., so you can judge whether there will be a wait or not. Work done can be seen from the waiting room on monitor or through window.

Horrible...don't go there.
