Printing - Copies, Computer Repair
I could not access the internet on my home computer. I called Staples and they sent a computer tech, for $160.00 to do a diagnostic exam. After 2 hours, he and an associate at the office determined since all my programs were working good and I still could not access the internet, someting must have corrupted the computer. I had mentioned and showed him a paper with the name of the program Rapport, that had popped up on my computer in the very beginning and would not let me un-install it. The tech dismissed this. They determined the only thing I could do, would be to wipe out everything and restore the computer to factory settings, then re-install my programs. All this would be over $200.00 in addition to the $160. Since it was to late to on this day to complete the task, they scheduled to return in 2 days. My son called and said I could, for another $100.00, buy a new CPU with windows 7 and a free upgrade for windows 8 in OCT, and get rid of the Vista. The next day, I went to Staples and cancelled the wipeout and restore visit and bought a new laptop, (I am a real easy target). I paid them to come to the house to set up the new laptop and install all my programs, this was $150.00. Up to this point there was no problems. A few days later my son visited from out of town and he has no formal computer training. He looked at the old computer and asked about the "Rapport" name written on a paper next to it. I told him, as I had told the tech, it popped up on the computer in the very beginning and would not let me un-install it. He googled it and found others had the same problen and were also unable to un-install it. He researched further and found how to un-install it. Once it was un-installed my computer was able to access the internet with no problem. I returned to Staples the next day and explained my computer is working fine, they said even if their tech had un-installed the Rapport, they would still have wanted to wipe out my computer because one program is rarely the problem. I don't believe this but I was told this, they offered me a $100.00 store credit and when I wanted the service charges removed (I would have kept the lap top at that point) they refused. I returned the lap top,and got a full refund because it was in their 14 day return policy dates but no compensation for the $310.00 sevice charges I paid.I would never recommend anyone to use their service to fix a troubled computer.
