I have known Dough Goodnow and his colleagues for more than 20 years. A sampling of some of the tasks Dough has completed for me includes: supervising the construction of a house in Florence Ma, installing flooring in my kitchen and dining room, renovating and finishing my basement, and installing a natural gas heating system in a Northampton location. He even made built in bench seating for my dining area and fixed rotten wood on my porch and fixed my sunken couch. He is an immensely talented man who I believe can do virtually anything in the construction/renovation domain. Beyond that Dough is a kind person with great integrity and a fine individual. His work was always completed in a timely fashion and he has often saved me quite a bit of money like when he obtained left over beautiful flooring from another project he was working on. I highly recommend Goodnow construction.

At first, it was great work and appeared professional. Then, Mr Goodnow kept adding overage charges to added contracts, when there turned out to be more work to do. At the end, he would add overage charges that were from early on in the first contract. I felt the money got out of control and he bullied me for not paying his overage charges, when the contract said he would not change the pricing. There was debris left behind, including a yard fool of cigaratte butts. Also, it took a lot of effort on my part to get him or his two workers back to finish the punch list. And he got angry at me by the end, for not paying his final overage charge. It was then that I found many missing items from my house that were unexplainable. finally, Mr Goodnow created more work for them, by doing extra on the house that I didn't need nor did I ask for it, such as replacing the original roof.

The work involved knocking out a wall, replacing an outside door and small window with a large, picture window, ceiling improvements, lighting improvements, replacing rough paneling with dry wall, installing wood flooring, electrical work and many more details as this was a big job. The estimate for what we had in mind, was too high for our budget. Doug worked with us to lower the cost to an acceptable level.  The suggestions he made were creative and actually enhanced the design. We much prefer it to our original idea. Doug and his team produced high quality work. They were professional throughout and very pleasant to work with. We learned of this company by visiting a home he had remodeled. The workmanship was impressive. I would have no hesitation in recommending the company to others.

From the design and planning to the construction and attention to detail, I couldn't be happier. These were the first contractors to understand my vision, have the expertise to engineer it, and be within my budget. They worked closely with me through each step, making sure all was as I wanted. (I actually enjoyed the whole process!) They completed the work on time and stayed within budget.
I now LOVE everything about my "new" home. My guests remark about how very beautiful it is (and want to know who did the work). Goodnow Construction did an outstanding job for me.

The work went well. The decorative posts were perfectly matched, all rotted support members were repaired or replaced. Carpentry work was crafted on site by skilled carpenters.

They came and responded in a timely manner. They were not pushy.
