Good job

After tentants moved out of our rental prop., we contracted with Dave to repair the bathroom which had been badly damaged due to a toilet that had apparently been leaking for a long time. There were also mold problems, cracking paint etc. Dave accepted the job, did part of the work, but quit mid-way without explanation/apology because he had to move on to another job. (In fairness, had advised me that he only had a short window to to the work, but I had thought he would come back and finish when he was done with that job - never assume, right?) I had to have another contractor finish the carpentry and I did the painting, caulking etc, etc. myself on my vacation. A year and a half later, the toilet is still leaking. When I called him, he failed to answer or return my phone calls. When I finally got him on his cell, he was completely disagreable and unwilling to repair the toilet. He told me it was probably a leak in the toilet and I should call a plumber and he is not responsible for work done 1.5 yeras ago. He also said it was not his respoinsibility to check the toilet he was installing - that "it was gross" and that he would only stand by a new toilet. He also told me I was trying to do the job on the cheap, etc. as if it is a crime to repair a bathroom on a budget. He was very unpleasant. Also when I told him that no one had been in the house for the year and a half (the house has been vacant and winterized for 5-6 months) he still refused to help or honor his work.
