John came in to access the job. He took some measurements and gave me a flat quote which I knew was fair based on other quotes I had received...John normally works with a partner, who unfortunately got sick on day one so John was left to do much of the work himself.
He removed all the old wallpaper. One part of the wall above the stairway is about16 feet high so I know it was not an easy task taking off all the paper then patching those walls then painting....
He also patched my ceiling and walls which are horsehair plaster...He said the ceiling and walls would not look brand new but would look much nicer than the conditions they were in...The ceiling had alot of cracks.
Well, much to my amazement the hallway came out great. Yes, you can see some slight imperfection but I think that adds to the feel of this 120 year old house. I wanted to keep both the plaster ceiling and horshair plaster walls. He did a good job repairing both.
The paint job was great...I have no complaints and will definitely being called John to decorate more of the rooms in this and quot;Old Houseand quot;.

He did a great job. I was really pleased with him. I called him for another room. I like that I couldn't see a seam. He was nice, cleaned up everything afterwards, and I would recommend him to anybody. Anybody I know who needs wallpaperingdown I would tell him to give him a call.

He was fantastic the whole time. The job involved only an accent wall, and I actually could not get two previous businesses to even respond for such a and quot;small job.and quot; John was up front that it would cost at least $400 to do something so small. The job itself was not easy; the paper is complicated and the wall even more so (inset windows with built-in bars -- it's strange and a headache). The job took him the better part of the day, and the cost was just what he said. The paper is hung beautifully, no edges visible, no wrinkles. It's a great job, and he was on time, brought his lunch, super professional, and kind to me. I had to run out to work for an hour and left him there alone without any concerns at all. We'll have him back to do paper or painting anytime we need it.

John gave me an estimate a few months back. I contacted him again the beginning of May. He responded quickly and worked around my schedule. He came in for one day. He arrived in the hour he mentioned and completed the job that day. He and his helper were both professional and courteous throughout.

we expected it would be but John and Billy did an amazing job!!!! The walls were smooth and beautiful after the removal of the old wallpaper. I couldn't believe they actually got the wallpaper off the walls without a nick or scratch to the original walls.

The second day I came home and they were clearly still in the middle of the project, John called me to let me know that what I was seeing was certainly not the finished look and not to worry. This attention to what I experienced -that John would call to prepare me for what I would see - meant a great deal. When I came home after the work was completed on the third day as John predicted it would take three days, I was in awe!!!! Not only that............ they had vacuumed the rug and replaced the furniture so the room was very inviting to come into and I was thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, John knew it was important for me to have this room completed before Easter and that he did!!! The room was spectacularly beautiful and they had two difficult colors to work with as dark colors were painted on the trim and doors and a lighter color on the wall. The work is incredibly perfect - not a bleedthrough of dark color onto lighter - perfect lines the walls were beautiful!!!!! The trim and window sills were old and cracked and they look brand new as do the walls. While John was here he even cleaned an expensive light fixture in the room which I hadn't attended to.

When John gave me the quote on the initial visit - he encouraged me to think about painting other areas I hadn't thought of like the doors in the rooms.. he was always two steps ahead of me.. quite frankly I'm a novice at being a do-it-yourselfer and John gave me patient, detailed and wonderful advice. John gave me advice on how to renovate my bathroom and advice on what steps I would need to take should I decide to renovate the old horsehair plaster in my the other rooms and how to paint my staircase and at my asking, gave me the names of other contractors who could provide other services for which I was looking. My home is 100 years old and it can be tough to work on the interior walls. I can't say enough wonderful things about John and Billy. The quote was more than fair and he didn't charge me more for the nightmare wallpaper removal. They are quite simply great guysand artists in my eyes and I simply loved having them work in my home. The final product was beyond my expectations!!!! I am discussing other projects in my home for John to do and he is simply gracious, charming, funny and wonderful to work with. What he proposed he would do - is exactly what was done and they went many steps beyond what we discussed and what I expected. I learned a lot from John. He and his partner Billy surpassed my expectations and believe me the wallpaper removal was a complete nightmare - he made it seem easy. This expense was well worth the money and more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If not for Angie's list, I never would have known to call him. He is a superb painter and contractor, a great guy and someone you welcome and entrust with your home. I couldn't be happier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very very lucky to have found John Quigley!!!!!

He phoned the day before to tell us he was coming as scheduled, arrived on time and immediately started to work. We have forced hot air so you can imagine what the ceiling above the registers looked like after 25 yrs. the difference was amazing. While that ceiling was being painted, the old wallpaper was being stripped. So for the first day the living room ceiling was painted, wallsprepped, and any defects fixed. He was also able to smooth out some and quot;repairsand quot; made by the previous owner. Also most of the old paper in the hallway and up the stairs was removed. Next, the first floor hallway, staircase and second floor hallway walls were prepped, repaired as neeeded and the ceilings painted. At the end of each day the debris was bagged up, floors vacumned . Then the wallpaper was applied over the next day and a half or so. Then John inspected the job and corrections made, only one missed a spot on the ceiling mostly hidden from view, then a final cleanup and done.
We are very satisfied with the work ,the profesionalism and the effort taken to do the job to our satisfaction.
Thanks John.

John had done such a great job with the papering of the living room that I was looking for more things to do! Despite working in many parts of the house, he was easy to have around. John keeps things neat and cleans up everything at the end of the day. He was very helpful as I dithered with different shades of paint, showing me samples in different areas so I could get a feel for how it would look. It was worth the time spend playing with colors. It looks great still. I'm now looking at 2 more bedrooms to repaper!

This was such a great experience, I'd think of wallpapering the whole house! John came promptly in response to my call, gave me an estimate on the spot and was able to start a week after the paper was delivered. He and his helper covered all carpeting and furniture completely and in three days had done a wonderful job. I have old, uneven plaster walls in our 1880's house with patches of old, unremovable (without replastering) wallpaper. He smoothed it out nicely and the textured wallpaper covered the flaws well. It was the little things that made it such a great job. I couldn't remove the pleated shades but he did and put them back up. On his own initiative, he replaced my window locks with new ones so that the windows would close more tightly and keep out drafts. When he came for the estimate, I wasn't planning on painting the ceiling since it's that rough texture. He told me that with everything else painted, it would look terrible and I should do it. He was definitely right. (None of the others I contacted said anything about the ceiling.) I even liked the music he played quietly. I like to do only one project at a time and it was a pleasure to find someone who is happy to do a small job and to do it so well.

John is prompt, courteous and an extremely efficient worker. John is cheerful and does not waste time. He arrived on time and with all supplies and equipment and was totally professional. He knew how to reach an arch over our staircase, how to set up the necessary scaffolding. He is a good listener to a homeowner's concerns. We both were extremely pleased with the results in our house, and have since referred him to a friend who had a major first floor ceiling problem due to a shower leak from above. This job required plastering as well as painting. John gets the work done, does not waste time and is a trustworthy person. I am pleased to know him and to recommend him.
