My overall experience with Sutton Paving was very negative, and I would not recommend them to anyone that takes pride in the appearance of their driveway. I contracted four paving companies for pricing. One did not call me back, one had what I thought to be very high pricing, one was disqualified due to feedback I received on a former customer, and the fourth was Sutton Paving. Lenny Hicks, ne of the owners, came out to visit the site and prepared a hand written estimate on the spot. He was not very busy at that time as it was nearing the end of the season, so he was able to squeeze me in within a few days of the time we met. I should have recognized this as problem number one that he was not booked up. His crew performed the job in one day. I was traveling back from a business trip that particular day and was not due to arrive back at my residence until late in the evening. Mr. Hicks insisted on coming to meet me late that night to pick up a check. I asked if we could do it in the morning, but he insisted on coming that night. I was not able to really see the work as by the time I returned home, it was dark. He also asked me to make the check out directly to him, and not his company. I noticed in the morning, on the wide part of the driveway in front of the garage, that there were at least three very obvious seams in the asphalt where the paving machine put down the asphalt. I called Mr. Hicks to ask about this and was told that his machine is only eight feet wide so that is unavoidable. I’m no paving expert, but I have seen numerous driveways wider than mine that do not have these seams. The following Spring, I pulled into my driveway with my SUV and turned around to offload something out of the back. When making the turn, my right front tire sank through the asphalt and caused a very deep impression in the driveway. I called Lenny about it, and he said it was because the driveway had not been seal coated and could be repaired. He also stated that the repair would be almost undetectable after the driveway was sealed. I made the decision to have him sealcoat it. The quality of work on the repair and sealcoat was also subpar. The crew that applied the sealant was very messy and got the sealer all over my concrete garage apron, and light colored brick walkway. Their attempt at repairing the damage was also terrible and actually made it look worse. I called Lenny again to have the issue addressed, and he told me he would come right out to look at it. He never did. The following fall, I had another incident where a light duty pickup truck pulled down the driveway and turned around. His right front tire also sank through the asphalt and left another very noticeable impression in the driveway. I called Lenny back again, and he promised me he would come out. I reminded him that he had told me that the last time, but never showed up. He also never showed up this time. Later that fall, I had another contractor at my residence doing work, and he asked me about the driveway damage, (it’s that obvious). He had experience working with paving companies, and felt that the issue was because there was not enough asphalt put down when the top coat was installed, and that it was either not rolled enough, or the roller used was not heavy enough. Bottom line is that I could never recommend Sutton Paving due to their overall quality of work, lack of attention to address issues after the fact, and unprofessional treatment form the owners. I felt their price was fair for a professional installation job, but that is clearly not what I received.
Description of Work: Contracted with Sutton Paving to add top coat of asphalt to my driveway. Had them follow up a later date to sealcoat the driveway, and attempt to make a repair..
