John has done other work for us in the past and when he came to discuss the various projects i had in mind he was as usual very generous with his time and expertise. He sent me a quote for four separate projects and I could choose a la carte which ones I wanted him to do. We were in no rush and he came when it fit his schedule to prunte several overgrown shrubs and plant two shrubs to create a visual barrier to our neighbor's yard. Everything was done beautifully, and we were particularly pleased with the prunng, which was very sensitively done. This is not a guy with an electric hedge trimmer who shapes everything to a uniform standard,, but created a neat but informal look that was just what we wanted. As my budget permits i will use him again in the future for other projects. He is not the cheapest, but the overall amount of service makes Natural Landscape worth it (although purchasing plant material yourself, f you have time to shop around for price) may be advisable.

Disappointing. John seemed very knowledgeable when he came to meet me, but he didn't take any notes, and what we discussed did not get conveyed to his crew. Aeration seemed to be done only in part of the yard. Reseeding wasn't done until November - too late to do any good. They mowed right over a shrub, weeded out good plants, divided ornamental grasses unsymmetrically and re-placed them poorly. Destroyed a nice perennial in the process. Very surprising to me that the crew didn't know anything about the plants, couldn't tell weeds from flowers. On the plus side, the edging, mowing, and mulching were very neat, and the guys could not have been nicer.
Response from NATURAL LANDSCAPE
"My first impression was that I was surprised to see a review submitted well over a year after most of the work the client describes was completed. My second impression is that I'm upset that there were so many fabrications/errors in the client's review. To be fair, we had 2 instances where there were issues that were entirely our fault on this property. First, we did in fact mow over a 6" high hydrangea that was planted (without edging, mulch etc. 3 feet into the lawn) this plant was replaced at no cost within 24 hrs. The second issue was that we divided some perennials and had to go back and reset some cobble edgers afterwards, again done within 24 hrs. The client's assertion that I didn't take notes is false. (mind you this is 17 months after our initial mtg last spring). I still have the notes I took at that mtg. They are in the files I keep with the notes from every single other client meet I've ever had in 8 yrs. My notes were conveyed clearly to my crew and the work was done exactly as requested. After the work was completed, the client requested that certain "add-ons" be completed free of charge, while we there. I declined, stating that we'd be happy to do add'l work but that the original price would of course rise a bit. After seeing the client's unhappiness and wanting to keep a new client happy, we did an additional 2 hrs work free of charge. Next, the client's claim that aeration was done only on part of the lawn, is either a guess or a blatant lie. That implies dishonesty, which truthfully makes me very mad. Also, the clients claim that putting down seed in November is "too late" is completely misinformed and misleading to potential new customers. Many of our nicer lawns are over seeded after fall cleanup, as late as December. The seed will naturally absorb into the soil and remain undisturbed by foot/mower/blower traffic until spring, when it begins to germinate and has no need to be watered as spring rains handle that. The customer’s load is lightened, no need to water until summer. This client is unhappy that I did not give them a free lawn cut this past spring and my guess is that is the reason for this report, again, submitted well over a year after the work was completed. We have a spotless reputation in this industry and I’ll let our record stand for itself."

I had been falling behind in maintaining our yard for the last couple of years. THe previous owners of our home had put in alot of work in planting beautiful bushes and plants all over the front and back yards, but I just couldn't keep up anymore. I emailed John for an estimate for a spring cleanup & mulch spreading and he promptly got back to me with an idea of when he would have the estimate to me. He delivered the estimate as promised ~ 1 week later, including some recommendations for a tree company that could remove some of the dead trees on our property (because natural landscape isn't equipped for large tree removal). It was a very big job, so John let me know that he needed to bring his full crew and he constantly corresponded with me regarding the estimated time his whole crew could come out to do the job (due to weather, etc). I took 4 workers over 3 hours to do all of the work. THey were extremely professional and courteous and they did a FANTASTIC job. I love the way our yard looks now. In all honestly, I didn't shop around, so I'm not sure how great the price is (that's why I gave a B), but I think it was worth every penny. I love that I didn't have to play phone tag with John, we just emailed back and forth. I will definitely hire natural landscape for future yardwork.

John was very good in communicating with me. He came when he said he would and we had several e-mail exchanges beforehand, in which I found him very clear and honest. The job was well done and he was very prompt.

We had a last-minute push to get a spring cleanup on our new house before prom picture-taking, (a fall cleanup had never been done). John and his crew came at the last minute, worked hard on a drizzly day and did a beautiful job, including pruning a hedge. I was particularly pleased that John was so knowledgeable about plant materials (surprisingly this is not always the case with landscapers!) and that his other services, which include the usual lawn maintenance, are fully organic, although he is quite willing to use individual un-organic treatments where he and the customer feels they are warranted. We absolutely look forward to having him do other work for us and are delighted to have a venue such as Angie's List to make his services known.
