The project went smoothly and on schedule once the architectural plans were finally complete. The initial plans turned out to violate zoning rules, and the revised plan was found to be structurally unsound by A&F's structural engineer. I was furious with my architect but Arie Flevarakis, the A&F contractor, took it in stride. He made suggestions to the architect for improving the structural integrity and the aesthetics, which greatly improved the final design. Arie was extremely dependable, well organized, and pleasant to work with. He was on site almost every day inspecting the work and at times assisting with it. The carpentry was done with exceptional attention to detail. The stairway, in particular, is a work of art. This was my first experience with a construction project. The number of decisions I needed to make, both major and minor, sometimes seemed overwhelming. Arie was very helpful, patiently explaining the various options, and giving excellent advice when asked.
Description of Work: Converted an undeveloped attic into a master bedroom, bathroom, laudry room, and family room; built three dormers, a stairway, and a built-in bookcase; replaced roof shingles.
