"Dear Mr. [Member Name Removed] We are very sorry that you were unhappy with our service. It is our policy to make sure jobs are completed promptly and customers are completely happy with our work. I spoke with you on the September 9th and told you I would send the crew back immediately to take care of any issues. At that time you decided you did not want us return. I am sorry you did not allow us to correct the issues for you. Again I apologize that we did not meet your expectations. Bonnie"
I did not want to leave a negative review -- I would like to forget about the entire experience -- but I want to save others the trouble and expense we endured.
We hired them on May 10 to cut down one large and one small tree, and trim all our neighbors' trees back to the property line. They rescheduled us over for various reasons -- mostly because the trees were and quot;too wet.and quot; However, when they finally showed up it was raining, so I guess the wet trees weren't such a huge problem after all. When they finally showed up to take down the trees, they sent a guy with a rope instead of a bucket truck. We weren't expecting them that day, so we were not at home when they arrived -- had we been home, we would have told them to come back with a bucket truck. The tree was too large and close our house and our neighbors' to safely remove without one. The guy climbed up the tree, hacked off branches, dropped the branches onto our roof, and let them slide down the roof onto our azaleas, tearing off our gutter guards and damaging our azeales and brick border in the process. They piled the lumber all over what was left of our bushes and front yard. Instead of trimming the border trees back properly, they broke off the branches they could reach with a pole -- so for about 15 feet you could see splintered branches sticking out, and then a giant canopy hanging overhead the rest of the way up. Then began the rescheduling and delaying of lumber removal. When they finally took the lumber away they damaged our fence. Then began the rescheduling and delaying of stump grinding and finishing the border pruning. They would tell us that they were coming and then not show up. When I called or emailed, I would be told that and quot;the supervisorand quot; had decided to push our job back. I asked many different people -- the receptionist, the salesman, the foreman -- if Carpenter Costin was unable to finish the job, and was assured each time that no, everything was fine, I was on the schedule and they would get to me right away.
By June 6 (after 4 no-shows/no-calls on the stump grinding and pruning) I emailed that they could either finish the job on June 7 or send us a revised invoice for the completed work and I would hire another company to finish the job. I received no response. I called the office and the receptionist Mari was very rude and kept insisting that nobody at Carpenter Costin was in any way responsible for the delays, rescheduling, or lack of communication. She refused to put me through to a supervisor or take a message, and hung up on me in anger.
On June 7 I was able to reach a salesman by phone and received verbal agreement from him to pay for the completed work and end my relationship with Carpenter Costin. That day I hired another company (Demore Tree -- see my other review). On June 8 the job was completed with a high level of professionalism by Demore.
In one area Carpenter Costin was VERY prompt -- we received a bill for the job just days after the tree removal, before the rest of the job had even entered the rescheduling phase.
