Wow.  This traditionalist small hardware store is a quiet gem.   Repairs of all types.   Small shop in same family for generations.  Bring a to do list with you when you visit Concord, then compare your experience to a very large hardware store.   This place is a time-machine of great traditional personal service.

Easy drop off. They call when ready, which was ahead of schedule. Friendly, neighborhood service.

We took in two screens to be repaired (screens were old, discolored and one was ripped). The price we were quoted in person was $20/screen (a nearby competitor is only $14 for the same repair). We decided we were in the store and they had a great rating on Angie's List so we'd pay the extra money...not a huge additional outlay in dollars (but 40% more per screen that the nearby company). The repair quality was excellent and turned around in two days as promised. However, they said they were open until 5:30 and my husband (who left work early to get there & go out of his way) arrived at 5:20 and they were closed. Not the end of the world, but definitely inconvenient. When I went in to pick up them up, I asked if they often close earlier than stated and they said "no." I mentioned that my husband had come by yesterday and they were closed. They were kind of rude and didn't care at all that they had inconvenienced us. A simple "we apologize for the inconvenience" would have gone a long way. That being said & the higher prices, we're going to try the competitor for our 20 other screens that need the same repair and hopefully save money and have them be happier to have our business. If the competitor doesn't do a good job, we would go back to Vanderhoof.

Dropped off my hedge trimmers to be sharpened on Thursday and picked them up on Saturday. They did a nice job and even cleaned up the old, dirty garden tool nicely. On time, sharp as a razor and only $4.00. Courteous to boot!

I called to find out whether they repaired screen doors. They said nothing wider than 3 yards. That is actually not a problem for most screens. I brought it to them in my mini-van. They repaired it within 4 days. Called and told me to pick it up. When I did, the salesclerk immediately retrieved it from out back and it looked great.

Scott Vanderhoof is the 4th generation to run this store. His knowledge is encyclopedic and given freely. He also builds and repairs screens and screen doors, ditto storm windows, sharpens tools, and sells everything you'd expect to find in a good old-fashioned hardware store.
