Pella Window's and Doors installed our sliding door last year in a Fall. The door was priced competitively - was not the cheapest option, but was not the most expensive. We had a choice of going with a small contractor vs a bigger company. We went with Pella because of the reviews on Anglie's list and the overall size of the company hoping to get a good warranty. Shortly after the door was installed, we experience a bad winter in Boston Area. The newly installed door started leaking. We called Pella several times and were referred back and forth between customer service and installation department. In a mean time, the screen also got broken. Long story short, we had a technician visit us in a spring, and heard nothing after that. The technician tried to fix the screen by tacking a net back into the door, but is was out the next day (MY CONCLUSION IS THAT THE NET IS A BIT SHORT, HENCE SHOWING A POOR QUALITY OF THE DOOR),
When I called to follow up with Pella AROUND SUMMER TIME, the company said that the door is leaking because of ice dams, a fairly standard response for an excuse over a bad installation job, in my opinion. It is worth noting that we experienced no leaks before the installation, nor experienced any leaks anywhere else in the hours. It is also important to note that the leaks appear to be from the door itself and NOT from the wall or a roof. I am not an expert it this, but I think it reasonable to conclude that the problem is the door, and not the weather. I do think it is also relevant to state that the door that was installed was MUCH shorter that the original door. When I challenged the installation team, they stated that the door is standard and our door seemed to be built to the house specks. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO ME WHEN THE SALES PERSON TOOK THE MEASUREMENT and WHY THE MEASUREMENT WAS NEEDED!!!! I do believe that this may have caused the leak; the water would find its way if there is an opportunity for it. This summer, Pella agreed to re-seal the door and promised to do it withing a month. As we are heading to the Winder, noone from Pella responded back, and I left multiple messages with no responses.
I very seldom leave negative comments, and I believe that Anglie's list provides an opportunity to prevent bad business practices and improve quality of service.
