We couldn't be more pleased with the results. We also wouldn't be anxious to go through a remodel such as this again. Chris and his team are hardworking, professional, knowledgeable and thourough, but it was still hard to live through the disruption! Chris had worked many times with our architect, and came highly recommended. The work started in the fall, with the digging of the foundation for the portion of the front porch that was going to be interior space, and the sonotubes for the portion that was going to be the porch proper. As planned, based on Chris's schedule, we had a break in work, he made sure that we were made tight and secure till the next phase started, 2 months later. We appreciated this time in between, as we prepared for the construction by packing away all essential items on the first floor, and creating a kitchen in the basement. We also further clarified the plans during that time. We started taking down the cabinets in the kitchen, as we built our own kitchen in the basement. Then when the demo occured in earnest, it was awe inspiring, Chris, Billy, and Pete, were diligent and cleaned up after themselves each day, and then, whenever they could, tried to keep us connected to our basement kitchen, some of the time in the winter, we were travelling outside. When the iron stack was removed and replaced with PVC, we were down to one bathroom, and they kept us informed as to what we could or couldn't do. Then the walls started going up, our new windows came, insulation blown in, electrical and plumbing started, drywall, plaster, then tile, cabinet and final plumbing and electrical. Chris was a master at framing, and timing of subs. Billy, the carpenter, was a gem. He worked on all phases of the project but his skill was especially noticed when he worked together with the cabinet people to make seamless and beautiful transitions and built-ins. Slowdowns occured with the window order, the cabinet installation, and the back porch railing, all beyond Chris's control. We have an amazing space now, that is beautiful and functional, and all of the work is solid including the things you can't see.
Description of Work: We did a kitchen, den and bathroom remodel of our 1960 side entry colonial. While doing this project, we were also trying to address maintenance items such as , roofing, second floor plumbing while the walls were open, and create wheelchair accessability. We added a small amount of space, a front hallway so that all traffic wouldn't go through the kitchen, but mostly rearranged closets, 1/2 bath, to make the den an eating area directly attached to the kitchen. In addition, we sought to dry our basement out by adding porches in the front, and altering downspouts and drainage to bring water away from the house. We needed extensive structural work to support the opening up of the kitchen. We also did a lot of other things too numerous to list here. Chirs was extrordinary to work with, as we tried to save money where we could, by doing things ourselves. Of course, when the boiler went, and some structural things weren't usual, we more than spent what we saved....but, I think that is all about remodeling!
