DEREK CHABEREK PLASTERING

At first went great when I gave Derek deposit but all down hill from there. I did research on Derek and all looked good on "paper" but be very careful Derek is very " shady" to say the least.

The service was great. He did a good job. The price was good. I thought it was a fair price.

Excellent to start then poorly

Derek came and assessed the area that needed repair. He then gave me a quote, I accepted, we set up a date, he came when scheduled, did the first stage, then returned a few days later to do the plastering. (Our schedules didn't jive for a few days but he adjusted his schedule to fit mine, which I appreciated). He and the person who assisted him were very polite and professional.
I recommend Derek to anyone who needs plastering.

Derek was wonderful - easy to have in our home. He worked within our expanding timeline and finished the job quickly and beautifully. We have an old house where nothing is plumb and Derek finessed it all! He actually charged us less than his estimate which was an early Christmas present for us.

I had finished full demolition for my soon to be dinging room, added enough insulation to keep an igloo comfortable, and needed the room to be drywalled and plastered. I also had several places around the house that needed some attention and found Derek on Angie's List. Derek was fantastic. He quickly replied to every call and came over quikcly to provide me with an estimate. I agreed to his quote the next day, and within just a few days he was at my house getting the job done. I am very pleased with all aspects of Derek's performance-including his communication, quality, and price.

Our basement was fully finished with carpeting, plastered walls, baseboard trim, etc. After we had water damage, I cut off the lower 14" or so to allow drying and to replace insulation. When I had Derek come in for an estimate, I had already "cleaned" the cut edge of wallboard on one wall, but Derek said to just leave the rest, and that he could do it. On the schedule day, he showed up around 9 with another helper guy and by 4:30 he was done with the job and beginning cleanup. He moved appliances out of the way and put them back as well. I felt his price ($500) was very fair and I put in a little extra because I asked him to patch one spot in another part of the house, but he didn't say "oh, well, that will be extra", so I felt that I should add a bit because of his willingness to do it. After everything dried, there is the smoothest transition from existing wall to new patched wall. After being painted there's no way anyone will be able to tell it was cut. Very happy with Derek overall.

Derek showed up on his way to his next job to give me an estimate. His estimate was cheaper and it included installing strapping on the ceiling. Derek and his assistant Eddie showed up right on time. They helped to move some furniture and laid paper on the hard wood floors. They then covered all the doorways with plastic to help contain the dust. Derek and Eddie were really nice and did an awesome job. They were here for two days and cleaned everything up and moved the furniture back in place. GREAT GUYS! GREAT JOB!

Derek came to give an estimate the day after we called. He was very punctual and called me a few minutes before he got there to make sure I'm home. We got 7 estimates overall and his was the lowest- however we hired him based on the positive reviews from Angie's. We actually had to do a few things before we did plastering (electrical and put in skylights). Derek was very very accommodating. Our apartment is on the 3rd floor and Derek and Ronnie had to carry every single sheet of blueboard 3 flights of stairs (there were like 40 sheets total)-never complained-other contractors kept complaining how this would be too difficult to do. In addition, once the job started our tenant (living in a different apartment but very very difficult to please on everything) was a big source of stress and constantly complaining. Derek worked during appropriate hours but she likes to sleep in and kept on bothering them and making the job additionally stressful. Derek was extremely professional and even lost a day of work b/c of this tenant. Despite the stress, he said he will do the job. Our walls and ceilings were not only in an awful shape (we just bought this place and it had paneling before), they were also not straight-lots of bowing, uneven angles. They did an incredible job fixing it as much as possible-you can barely see any of that now. Also, we originally asked if we need to prep the walls more-like fixing big holes in the ceiling, detached laths or uneven plaster-Derek said he will take care of it and he certainly did. The plastering work on the walls is amazing-very very smooth-like glass and I am not exaggerating-we have seen work done on our friend's walls and ours is so much better. He also covered everything not sparing any of his high quality floor coverings and moisture barriers. In overall, Derek and Ronnie are truly masters of their trade. They are very professional, hard working and also very personable. They really earn a hard living. We will definitely recommend him to everyone we know. This plastering was the best thing for Xmas for us. Derek is very professional and I really like that he actually answers his phone 99% of the time unlike other contractors. He is also very punctual.

Our regular contractor quoted $1200 each for the two areas, $2400 total. I found Derek and he came down to give me an estimate within an hour. He quoted $1400 for the whole job. He started within a couple of days and completed the job based on my schedule. The quality of the work is excellent. He was very patient when I put off his schedule, and offered to do some extra little areas at no extra cost. We were so pleased with him that we gave him 200 extra dollars for the extra work he helped us with, not really enough for the value he gave.

Derek was professional, courteous and very responsive. We had gotten an initial estimate of $3,500 from another plasterer for the job (excluding the bathroom!), and the plasterer would not commit to start the job on a definite date. Derek, on the other hand, stopped-by to give an estimate an hour after I spoke with him and - due to an opening in his schedule - was able to start the next day! The job took only two days. He and his partner showed-up promptly in the morning, worked quickly throughout the day and did a great job of cleaning-up any mess. We were very impressed. The quality of the work is fantastic. The original plasterer we contacted had intended to put joint compound over the old plaster! Derek, on the other hand, used real plaster - again, it looks amazing. Derek knows his stuff - I highly recommend him.

Derek did an excellent job. He communicated well, returned calls, show up right on time for the days of work and did so at a very reasonable price. We would for sure recommend him to any one.

Derek arrived on time and proceeded to place plastic and paper where he would be doing work in order to prevent dust and dirt from getting on our furniture. He did a meticulous job, and even insisted upon vacuuming the floor around the areas he worked. Derek is polite and professional,and my husband and I couldn't be more pleased with his work. We will definitely call him again if we need any more plastering to be done.

Job went great. A beautiful, smooth plastering job. Job took most of one day. Contractor cleaned-up after the work was done. He arrived when promised. I couldn't be more pleased.

His technique is good. He's only satisfied with completely professional results. In the case of the kitchen ceiling repair, he went to a lot of bother to remove the cabinets (even taking out all the delicate glassware) so a good job of plastering could be done.
