We'd purchased a home which needed to be fully repainted. As the home was built in 1895, it's interior was mostly original horsehair plaster over wood lathe. Jason completed a full walk-through analysis of the job, pointing out tasks which would add extra expense and could be completed by the owner, as well as clarifying the scope of work we wanted completed. It's a funny thing...painting is painting, right? I felt like I was learning from the start and immediately began to feel encouraged about his knowledge and skill when Jason began to propose multiple options for prepping (shoring up) plaster which was pulling away from lathe, cracks which had spread through the plaster in several rooms, and the wallpaper borders in the kitchen. I did not know plaster buttons existed, but Jason explained what they were, how they worked and estimated (accurately!) the amount of prep time he would use to patch, button, and reskim areas of tired plaster so that the newly painted rooms would justify the expense of bringing in a painter in the first place. He was friendly and helpful from start to finish, always asking before taking on any extra repairs and confirming his rationale ("Did you want me to remove curtains, shutters and shams or would you like to do that before I start and save a few hours' labor?" or "This black paint in the wainscoated bookshelves is likely to need an additional coat of primer." or "I would recommend a special primer to cover the wallpaper adhesive so you do not get it bleeding through the paint - are you aware of that?") Throughout this job, Jason worked alone, carefully tarping, and cleaning up after himself each day. He showed up when he said he would, and communicated with us regularly throughout the job. Because I worked close to the job, I stopped in on a number of occasions to gauge his progress and determine whether there was anything he needed. He was always very polite and conversational during my drop-ins, but also focused, as he was mindful of the schedule, or had just mixed up a batch of plaster he wanted to use, or was trying to get a coat on so that it could cure and allow the next coat. Jason "cut in" the paint where the wall met the ceilings quickly and accurately, and repainted all of the old original baseboard and window trim. We could not have been more pleased with his work. As he was referred to us by a friend (I understand that he has gotten most of his work though word of mouth) and not Angie's List, I thought it would be helpful to "get the word out.
Description of Work: Costs describe Labor @ $3600 and materials @ $500. Full prep of plaster, including wallpaper removal, plaster buttons, patching cracks with high quality plaster mix, full priming, purchase of selected materials (paint colors) as directed, finish coats in the kitchen, living room, dining room, stairwell, upstairs hallway and three bedrooms. Jason carefully prepped and cleaned up with no paint spots on the hardwood floors, etc.
