I chose AJ Rose, based upon the excellent online reviews, and didn't hesitate, even though they were high in price. I was happy to pay for a quality install. I had cleared out the entire upstairs so we could paint and change light fixtures and give the installers free space to work in. It took a couple of weeks for the carpet to come in and arrange an install date. It was supposed to happen "first thing" and take "3-4 hours" (small job, 2 square bedrooms and stairs/landing area). One tech arrived after 10 saying he was suppose to be there at 9 and he was waiting on another person(s) to show. Work got started around 11 AM , 3 or 4 different workers took turns napping in one of their trucks. It sounded like a heard of elephants was upstairs in our old home. I left to go into work for a bit, though I was suppose to work much longer (after the job was complete), I came home and they hadn't installed the bedrooms but told me "25 minutes" I asked if there were issues? and was told nothing. One of them told me they hadn't slept, they had worked all night on a commercial project. I saw one tech gluing a lot...We had new beds being delivered by Cardis, which was almost 6PM. They arrived without issue. I took a look at the upholstered area and asked one tech to fix it..he proceeded to put about 30 more staples in it, marking the wall up with every strike. At that point, after almost 8 hours, they left. I contacted Robert our salesperson, sent pictured and began a very exhausting process with them. Robert instructed me to contact the installers myself and set up time to fix it and was clear that they had the right to fix it. I then found out that AJ Rose contracted out to Teo's Flooring for our failed carpet install. Though nice to talk to, I had no trust in this and wondered why I was the one in charge of making things right. I explained to Robert that we needed additional carpet ordered and I couldn't take any more time off of work for this project. I also requested that he come take a look for himself. He missed that appointment due to poor planning for traffic....I left work early to accommodate. We rescheduled for a Tuesday I was suppose to be on vacation, again, I asked that they come with carpet and to work, not just waste my time...which they looked at the poor install, agreed to more carpet was needed to fix the issues. We went back and forth over the condition of our subfloor. We ended up calling in a contractor who recommended the carpet be rolled up so we could repair it. All of the planks need screwing, and possible replacement. In speaking with a couple of local co's they would have done this during install, or alerted us to the issues asap. In dealing with an older home, the salesperson should have considered the need for this during the initial meeting. I did not realize this until after we had our contractor come. I kept trying to explain the crunching and creaking I was feeling with the new floor. I had very lengthy conversations/correspondence trying to get this recognized. Our contractor knew right away what it was. I also believe the previous pad must have been of better quality and installed properly. Now we have a creaky mess, 7 weeks of boxes and not finding things. I believe AJ Rose thought I wanted them to pay for a new subfloor, which was Not the case. I asked them to roll up the carpet, allow our contractor to fix the floor, then return and reinstall the carpet. With the job they did, the only option here was to perform a reinstall. They also repeatedly required me not to post any pictures or reviews on social media, and they would come and fix the carpet. Yes, in writing. I agreed as long as the job was done well. I thought we had reached an agreement and set dates, make arrangements with contractor and work. I received a follow up email stating they would not return. Yes, they did end up refunding me, but I have a really nice carpet that needs to be pulled up. I also must mention that the workers left behind a razor in the bedroom that my 7 year old, of course, picked up and cut his finger on. At this point I am trying to get another company in to help rectify this mess, during the holidays.... I did not get a "free" carpet and pad...this has cost me so much time and energy and now more money to fix...the public needs to know that AJ Rose works very hard to maintain all positive reviews online, so much so that they use it as a tool. I hope this helps one person to not end up in this situation. The company is not required to be registered/bonded/insured according to them. They contract out to overworked and/or unexperienced installers and then put up all kinds of roadblocks and unreasonable stipulations in rectifying a project that is completely failed. Older homeowners, stay away from this company...go with a licensed contractor. Very hard lessons learned and still in a mess.
