This was a very high quality renovation and Jim was extremely responsive and on top of it. There were a lot of small details to keep track of and by and large they were all taken care of and he is still responsive a year after the contract ending with things that come up. The price came out higher than we initially hoped for, but it was a very high-quality high-end job and the additional money reflected positive changes we wanted to make once work began to have a better quality result and Jim negotiated the necessary change orders in good faith. He solved tricky problems regarding the entryway to the downstairs unit where there wasn't much space, worked to keep the ceiling heights good in the basement unit despite the HVAC system going through the roof, and kept a good ceiling height in the laundry. He took care of issues around having small kids in the house like putting little mesh guards on the HVAC to prevent small toys falling into the system. When an ice dam formed on our roof over the following winter he and his right hand man even came out to cut it down that same day with 5ft of snow in the ground.

We hired Jim in Fall of 2014 for a new kitchen and several other projects around our house, including a bathroom and air conditioning.  We had talked to him since the early part of January about this project.  Though at first we were concerned about Jim's ability to complete this in ling with our schedule, once we got started with Jim things went great.
Let me repeat that:  a major kitchen gutting, bathroom, etc. etc. etc. (see scope above) went great. That means
1) On time
2) On budget
3) With the quality we wanted and
4) with no major issues.
Indeed, we hope to have him back to do more work.   Jim was incredibly responsive to our needs, took care of us to the best of his ability, and paid more attention to quality than I did.  His core crew was very strong.  Sometimes I told him minor defects would be fine, and he responded that they were not in line with his standards. Even now, a few months after the project ended, he's been in touch about any minor things that need to be adjusted,  etc.
The scope changed a bit during the course of the project as Jim made suggestions and we took him up on them. Those were reasonable change orders in my view.  So we got additional value out of every change we made throughout the project.
So both my wife and I strongly recommend Jim and are happy with the results he provided.  Pretty rare outcome in a construction project, from what I hear about the market.

THIS IS AN ADDENDUM TO OUR REPORT DATED 11/08/04. 1.5 YEARS AFTER THE BATHROOM RENOVATION WAS COMPLETED, THE GROUT STARTED CRACKING AND BREAKING DOWN. WE POINTED THIS OUT TO LOCKWOOD, WHO ADMITTED RESPONSIBILITY AND INDICATED THAT AT SOME POINT HE WOULD FIX IT AT HIS COST. SUBSEQUENTLY, WE ASKED LOCKWOOD TO BID ON ANOTHER MAJOR RENOVATION JOB AT OUR HOUSE, BUT WE ULTIMATELY CHOSE A DIFFERENT CONTRACTOR. NOW LOCKWOOD INDICATES THAT THE GROUT BREAKDOWN AND ENSUING WATER DAMAGE IS ''USUAL WEAR AND TEAR,'' AND THEREFORE WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE $$ TO REDO THE GROUT, AND THE $$ TO REPAIR THE WATER DAMAGE. (PERHAPS WE SHOULD HAVE FORCED LOCKWOOD TO MAKE THE REPAIRS BEFORE WE TURNED DOWN HIS BID ON ANOTHER JOB.) EITHER WAY, I WILL NECESSARILY DOWNGRADE HIS SCORES ON QUALITY AND PROFESSIONALISM TO ''B'' AND CHANGE MY OPINION TO ONE THAT I WOULD NOT HIRE HIM AGAIN.

VERY HIGH QUALITY WORK. VERY THOUGHTFUL AS A PROJECT MANAGER. RELATIVELY EASY TO WORK WITH AS CHANGES WERE INEVITABLY MADE DURING THE PROJECT. HAS VERY GOOD ARTISTIC/ARCHITECTURAL SENSE (THOUGH ALWAYS RECOMMENDS AN EXPENSIVE SOLUTION/APPROACH). THOUGH PRICE SEEMED HIGH (AS IT ALWAYS DOES), THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS EXCELLENT. HE HIRES GOOD QUALITY SUBS, BUT HE DOESN'T PERSONALLY SUPERVISE THEM WHILE THEY ARE ON SITE (E.G. SIMPLY GIVES THE KEY TO THEM). EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, AND WE WOULD HIRE HIM AGAIN.
