THO'S UPHOLSTERY

Tho did an excellent job. He is skillful and energetic,and takes obvious pride in his work. Work was accomplished even sooner than
he'd promised.

I had three European design arm chairs that needed to be recovered. I picked out the fabric at Zimman's and got a quote to have them do the work. Since I live on the Newton-Brighton line I decided to look for someone closer. I stopped at Tho's and took one look at a love seat he was working on and decided to have him do the work. His price was quite a bit less than Zimman's and two other companies I contacted. More important than the price, was the quality of his work. Tho is a craftsman who really cares about what he does. I picked up the chairs today and they look better than they looked when they were new. The detail is perfect and he did a fantastic job of matching the pattern whoever two pieces meet. I wish I could post a picture to show what a great job he did.

Tho is a master craftsman who exceeded expectations in all ways.
I had an old but expensive Bloomingdale's sleeper sofa with worn out beige fabric that I asked Tho to reupholster. The same day I called for the estimate, he was ready to do the work. I had the sofa delivered the same day. Unbelievably, he was done with the work in 5 days. Not only did other upholsterers quote higher prices, but also 2 1/2 - 3 weeks for the same work Tho did.
When we arrived to pick up the sofa, my husband's eyes lit up. We had expected pretty much the same sofa with the fabric changed. The sofa looked substantially better than the day we bought it - gorgeous in fact. He slightly altered the proportions (for the better!) and fixed some of the flaws the sofa has always had. He paid tremendous attention to detail, even adding an interior flap to cover the sofa bed. It is like we got a new designer sofa! Tho turned our sofa from an embarrassment to a piece de resistance.
As if that was not enough, we are working with a flaky mover who has been difficult to pin down. Tho has been extremely accommodating, even offering to come in off hours to help us arrange pick up and drop off. He is a consummate professional and I hope that we get a chance to work with him in the future. I give Tho's Upholstery my highest recommendation.

Tho is old-school - no email, no website. He works out of his storefront. He did a beautiful job on the couches, which were vintage mid-century. It was not cheap - yes, we could have bought new couches for less - but they had sentimental value and were very unique. The best thing about Tho is his high quality of work (these couches look new and boy are they FIRM) and his speed. The other upholstery shops quoted us 10 weeks (a long time to be sitting on the floor) but Tho only took 2 weeks. Also, Tho does not provide the fabric, so he doesn't inflate his price by charging you a padded price for fabric (no pun intended). You can save a lot by getting your own fabric, and also have better selection.

I realize one can buy a new chair and a new ottoman for less money but you'll never get the quality of workmanship of things that were made 60+ years ago so I think it was worth the money.
