"[Member Name Removed] I was taken back by your review for several reasons. I had spoke to Alex hours before you wrote the review and he and I had a positive conversation. I mention of any of this was made to me. I believe you are confused with the estimates you had received from other vs ours, I checked it and the estimate is for $2477 not the $2350 you pointed out. I did speak with Alex after seeing your review and explained things to him. There was a pile of pictures frames/ art in the basement that was in the pile he asked us to pack so we did. Not all the art was taken over there was some we were asked to pack. You did packed a couple of boxes of books but we had to repack some of them as they were not closed and the books were piled well above the height of the box which means we couldn't carry them. I strongly feel that we did a good job with your move and packed and moved what was asked of us. I spent all day asking you questions with packing to make sure we packed everything you wished us to. I am a little disheartened with your review. Alex and I had a long conversation 1 before your review and 1 after and I had had believed both to be positive."
I got an email from the moving company on 11th stating that they would only be able to move it by the 13th but would only be able to move it by 15th. I was not prepared for it, especially throwing this out at the 11th hour. I had to fight with them to make them realize that they have to provide an alternate solution and not ask me to change my plans. The notification email was callous and blunt and had no regards for the customer; basically stating that..."this is what we would do, I don't care if you are OK with it or not."
Here is the exact verbiage
"The National Van Lines driver that is assigned to your shipment at the earliest can arrive for Monday the 15th, I had let <agentName> know. <agentName> alerted me that this may be difficult for you. I understand that and am very sorry for the short notice. Unfortunately this is the earliest he can arrive. The drivers paperwork has been sent to your home for Monday to arrive for the driver, the paperwork is specific to your shipment, it has been sent via FedEx. "
I had to fight with them and they agreed to bring their truck for the move on the 13th. The alternate plan that they suggested was they would bring their truck on the 13th, load my things on their truck. On the 15th, the National van lines truck would in turn load it in their huge truck from the small truck and drive down to my destination.
I asked a question " if the transfer from truck to truck was going to be a 1 time thing?" as common sense dictates that ...lesser the material handling, lesser the breakage. I was told yes.
When I emailed the provider newgenerationmovers on the 17th to know the status of the delivery, I was told that the scheduled date of delivery was 23rd. I was expecting them by the 19th max. At this point I did not have a choice except to wait for the delivery which eventually happened on the 24th.
The weight of all my things was what they told me. I could not verify it by any means. Is there a possibility they could have overstated the total weight of the things from my house? Your guess is as good as mine.
When newgenerationmovers agent came in about a month ago for an estimate, he estimated the total weight to be about 5366 lbs and a $ amount of $2975 for that weight. So I was thinking 1price/pound = $0.5544
The total weight that they told me for my things was 3640 lbs. They told me this on the 15th. The corresponding $ amount they told me for this was $2250; which meant that the price/pound was = $0.6181
When I asked about this discrepancy...the <agents> explanation that was provided was
"When you asked the cost per pound all I did was take the weight I estimated and divide by your transportation cost. Just because the weight was lower which does bring the weight down it doesn't mean that it correlates accurately with what we originally calculated.
The final amount you have to pay is lower than what I quoted you because the weight was lower. "
Again common sense would dictate that the price per pound should stay same. Trying to explain that price per pound is not linear is plain rubbish. If the price per pound is not linear, then the moving company should make the customer aware of the tariff for different weights, which they conveniently did not let me know. Also trying to explain that the final amount is lower, so I should not worry is purely insulting ones intelligence.
There was an unpacking fee that was charged along with other fee. When the shipment arrived, the Van Lines did not do any unpacking for my TV or bed. They merely removed the sheet protecting the chesters and took it with them.
There are breakages during the transportation. I took insurance for actual value of the article up to $30,000. I still have to find out how I will get cheated on this.
"[Member name removed], I do appreciate your willingness to write a review with your experience with us and National Van Lines. I am sorry if I had missed any responses from you in regards to some of your other issues towards the later end of you move. I checked all my emails and voicemail and had not received any regarding damages or the issues with unpacking, I will reach out to you to gather information on those issues and assist you. I checked your estimate and all other paperwork regarding your shipment and referenced the delivery spread and set for 8-15 to 8-25 and delivered on 8-24 which was one day within your agreed spread in the estimate you had signed. I had explained to you that all moving companies with out of state moves are based on a tariff and the tariff does go based on weight. When a shipment drops into a lower weight category the tariff does go up and the same goes for a shipment that goes up into a higher weight category the tariff rate would slide down. I am sorry if I had not better explained that to you. You are correct on your pickup date of the 13th having an issue with the driver making it on the 13th and being able to arrive on the 15th. In our discussions you did say that the 15th would not work and we did arrange my local crew to perform the shuttle service on the 13th for the driver so that you would be moved out and that the driver who would be driving you belongings to you would be able to pick up your shipment from our location. This I do agree was a startle to you that it felt like you may have to change your arrangements to be picked up on the 15th and I apologize that it not worked out faster with us arranging our local crew to come out to you as you needed on the 13th. As owner of New Generation Moving and Storage I take all reviews good and bad seriously and want all customers to enjoy a good move with a good crew. I am deeply sorry if you feel we had failed to provide a better service for you. Thank you [Member name removed]"
"[Member Name Removed], Thank you for the review that you left for us. It was a pleasure moving your parents and we were happy to have been able to assist you and your family in their transition. Shaun McCue"
