This contractor is the living example of contractors having "a license to steal."  He basically did the "bait and switch" with the pricing.  Was extremely slow with his work, completed only the easiest tasks of the cellar renovation, and then sued us when we let him go.  
Our mistake was in believing him when he convinced us to work on a "cost plus" basis.  Once hired, he worked extremely slow & expensively, forcing us to end his services with him after six weeks.  He agreed to part ways and we paid him what he had done.  Unfortunately the next day he broke this agreement and  He then informed us that he had a relative that was an attorney whom would work for free when he sued us. His attorney in court told us that he had done this in the past with other customers.
