"I received a phone call on Sept 10th 2013 “I’m in a jam, I was wondering if you could help my out.” Washer not working & needed repaired ASAP. Arrived in a few hrs (same day). Found a Duet (Whirlpool) front load washer getting an error code. Error code “S-35,”M#WFW9500TW01.” We started worker and we watched to see what part of the wash cycle the code would appear. After filling & working after 20 min or so, the machine stopped & there was the error code. I retrieve the “Tech Sheet” from its location, topped to inside of side panel. Looked up the Error Code “S-35,” and read pressure rebuild problem. The remedy was to replace the port, it also recommended checking the wire harness & connections as this is by far the most common reason for failure. After checking connector and resetting all other connections in all controls & switches we ran cycle again. About 20 mins the error code appeared again. I then put washer into diagnostics to see if we could get more detail about our issue, and to see if other error codes come up. This entire time customer was with me & I patiently explained what was going on. We had a very nice time chatting back & forth. She was telling me about the up coming weekend date with her boyfriend, motorcycle ride to Provident Town with some other bikers. We determined that we need to replace the pressure switch. She asked how long it would take to get the part. + said 3 days. She paid me $95.00 which is the standard service call charge. I said I would call when part arrived & we would set up apt. On my way home phone rang & customer said “I just realized I paid $95.00 & my washer is still not running.” We discussed what we should do & we agreed I’d give ½ the money back. After I thought about it I realized I just spent 2 ½ hrs on this project, easily worth 95.00. Customer did not want to follow through with repair. Not my fault. Therefore I will not refund any money to this customer."
suggested that I just adjust the internal temperature gauge to deal with keeping the food cold.
Ford was responsive to my call and arrived promply at the agreed upon time. He listened to my saga and immediately targeted the fan under the refrigerator. Upon checking it out.. he discovered that the original backing block around the fan had never been removed... With that removed the compressor can work properly to keep the food cold and the unit has been working like a dream ever since...(even with a family reunion of 12 people opening and closing the refrigerator numerous times.)..
Because Ford did not have to do an actual repair he reduced the service fee just to cover his time and the trip to my house.
Thanks to you Ford, my ice cream is ice cream... not soup !!
"Hi, Nice review, thank you, however this is not the work that I performed. This was done by someone else. I was there and worked on the washing machine, there were 2 parts needed, and the cost was going to be to high to warrant furthur work. Thanks, Ford"
Like most refrigerator issues (probably) ours caused some panic, and two previous attempts to obtain a service call weren't successful (although the first provider we called wanted to be helpful and ran through a brief checklist with us on the phone, but ultimately wasn't familiar enough with our model to warrant a visit) It was a Saturday and we hadn't noticed the warm atmosphere in the fridge until lunchtime, so our effort to try and find a repair person was urgent, since Sunday would be that much more difficult. We called Brewster Appliance, and after reviewing the same checklist on the phone (for instance, "Is there power?" (yes, the interior light is on) and so forth) Mr. Kirkbride told us he could be there around three o'clock. He appeared as promised, fixed the refrigerator, and gave us a bill that was very reasonable. We are happy to recommend Brewster Appliance and Mr. Kirkbride.
